  • He was the trusted weatherman. Thought it was so cool, he lived across the street from my Uncle

  • Conrad Johnson was a great pioneer in so many fields. His genius and greatness is vastly under-recognized. He's one of the nation's first to understand the importance of weather radar and led by personally installing an old military radar at WMT (the first of it's kind). Conrad led in developing the Nat'l WX Svc. tornado watch/warning system which saves so many lives today. His forthright professionalism always shone through when Iowa's weather was unpredictable. We need more Conrads today!

  • It all makes so much sense now!! How great is it, that you have footage of him, and you can share it with all of us!!

    Great Job!!

    xoxo

  • Talk about a flashback to my childhood in Oelwein.

  • Well I am proud to have been a part of this mans life. He was as quiet and professtional in his private life, as he was on TV \ Radio. My wife who is a special education teacher in SC, was able to talk him into giving one last "Weather 101" for her class room in 1999.

  • Di-dah-dah dah-di-di-dah This is Conrad Johnson from the WMT weather lab...

When I hear the Morse code for WX (which means weather in ham code, long before text abbreviations), I still expect to hear This is Conrad Johnson.

And weather technology does progress and storm death tolls are still decreasing.
