This reminds me of how much I liked this show, and miss it. Terry Nation was a true genius. There has never been anything else like this or even close to it.
Over the years there have been many comparisons between British and American sci fi for TV, this just shows why British sci fi is so good, forget the big names, fancy sets and dazzling special effects (America 3, UK Nil Points) there will always be great drama and characters in British sci fi to compete with ANYTHING else in the world. This video brought back many warm memoris for me
So tragic. A true Shakesperean anti-hero ending up killing the one he actually loves most of all. Beautiful and chilling yet the same, left me with tears in my eyes.
Thanks so much for putting this together, awesome!!!
Very beautiful video. Captured their comradery and difficulty friendship without making it too much like a slash fiction video. Was that Firefly music, by the way? If so, I think that's oddly fitting since I always felt Firefly was very similar to B7 in its quality of character writing.
@KONAretro oh it'll bomb and tarnish memories. hollywood really isn't capable of anything else recently. they are supposedly making the hyperion books into a single movie, and logans run as well. who knows how long it will be before theres another horrible dune remake in the works.
Loved it! A great tribute to the show, the characters and the actors. I'm a huge fan now. Good choice of clips here. And beautiful, appropriate music.
I love this video. American fan of B7. Liked it so much I bought a regionless DVD player to watch it in the states. "Show me anyone who believes in anything and I'll show you a fool." Avon is the quintessentialness of cool.
one of the saddest moments i have ever seen watching blake fall to the floor, killed by his friend look at avons face when he realises what he has done,he knows he has made the biggest mistake of his life, and the federation has won.
It seemed that Avon was right from the start: Blake couldn't win, no matter how hard he tried - and his "great big bleeding heart" DID get them all killed. Should have listened to Vila.
u sir, as i have said it before r a genius, this is the best mix of Blake and Avon i have ever seen, it makes me weep every time i watch it - u sir have done a very very god job here

That was a magnificent compilation. Well blended, great musical accompaniment and said everything about those two that could be said in a powerful and moving manner. Thank you for putting this together and sharing it online.
wonderful acting by Paul and Gareth, especially when Blake limps off the flightdeck of his ship for the last time having made his peace with Avon, was very powerful and emotional. Watching him fall to the floor, dead, was just as heartbreaking as it was 28 years ago this week :-(
Thanks, you really captured the tension between these two so well - each seeing qualities in the other they grudginly admire but do not aspire to. It was a beautifully tangled pairing. Inteligently written and so well summed up here.
That was truly amazing!!! A big fan of B7 (and the re-made BSG of course). You've really captured the antagonistic relationship between Blake and Avon in three and a half minutes.
blake has been missing for 2 seasons,he still thinks he knows avon,he deosnt believe avon will shoot him.blake deosnt know avon has turned paronoid a bit of a physchopath,he killed the only woman he ever loved, and tried to throw villa out of an airlock.avon was no leader but he sort of finally understood blakes cause and what he was trying to .blakes final scene at the end of serious 2 when he said he always trusted avon, was very emotional,
if you want to see the relationship betwwen avon and blake, this says it all.blakes 7 was never the same without gareth.if avon hated blake so much why did he keep looking for him, even losing the liberator in the process, and when he did find blake he shot h
Blake was an idealist whose dreams of freedom applied to all creatures. Avon never really got that Blake's altruism extended to Avon and was always suspicious of Blake's motives or contemptuous of his ideals. Time and time again Blake showed that he would never abanon or betray Avon, and in the end that makes Avon's response to Blake's apparent deception even more poignant. Such a wonderful, complex, dark and doomed (because of Avon's distrust) relationship.
Yeah me too. I still love the last two series, despite some crap episodes. I think Terry Nation was pissed off Gareth Thomas left, and that's why his contribution to the third series was a mere two episodes.
Another reason was he'd left the UK and gone to Hollywood. The series four producer had to go to the USA to meet with him to get permission to kill off the characters.
Excellent video, one of the best edited vids on youtube. Just shows how good the chemistry was. With the relationship between Avon and Blake being the core of the show, everthing else slotted in around it. Whooooo
Dude, I told you this vid was brill. Hell you only need to see the comments to prove it. !! Ow just to let everyone know, Avon "Paul Darrow" is currently staring in ITV's Emerdale as a Hip Likable Biker Dude.. :-)
I was expecting something, well, kinky due to modern day heckling of older television and playing the s e x angle for sophomoric comedic effect, but that video montage simply reflects the series and what the show was TRULY about.
Nice one! Been a while since i watched this; the sets were wooden and so was some of the acting but B7 remains one of my all-time favourite shows. I'd forgotten how good the chemistry was between Gareth Thomas and Paul Darrow. Thanks for the reminder... reaching for the DVDs...
aLouBell -- not always wooden; TV of the day was produced more like televised stage plays. Especially in Britain. Only the style has changed, to be more melodramatic and theatrical. (And with sci-fi also being more soap-opera with big hollywood f/x instead of concepts and character types, there's little of today's TV I'd care about... save for Firefly or Futurama, oddly... :) )
The more theatrical acting style is perhaps more apparent in contrast with the more naturalistic acting style of modern SF shows. You don't need such a long rope from which to suspend your disbelief these days!! Re the alarming paucity of plot and character-driven modern SF - what about Farscape, then? Lots of FX, but plenty of meaty plotlines and strong characters to get you hooked, IMHO. And, like Firefly, owes a lot to B7, particularly in season 1.
Wonderful!! Thank you, I used to love this show and this is one of the best compilations ever! Thank you. Now I want to go find the series for sale somewhere so I can watch it from start to finish again.
In spite of it's flaws, this was a good series and good writing. Watching Avon decide if he was with blake of not was very entertaining. You captured this very well.
ive signed up for YouTube just to thank you for doing this. blakes seven was just so good, and this distillation of the tragic relarionship between the two is moving in its intensity
I Totaly agree, this video, Editing and Audio is so Brilliant at capuring the feelings of the caracters its hard to put into words.. So far ive been back here god knows how many times.. Damn You SciFi.. you've stolen my sole. !!
Blake's got his baggage, and Avon is a cruel, calculating person. Blake used to be a honest man, but he became less so due to circumstances, and Avon became less a calculating deceiver, but admired and loved Blake just as Blake admired and loved Avon.
Their undoing was that series 4 was to be the end.
I enjoy it. It was great. I was a big Avon fan. Especially when Avon & Vila interacted & Vila wasn't depicted as totally useless. I especially liked the line wehnAvon stated he wanted to be 'Free of him (Blake).'
Very impressive, although I would have chucked either the one where Avon says "He will fight to the very last drop of their blood" or the one where he says "Is it that you have a talent for leadership or that they have a talent for being led". But that's just personal preference. Other than that I thought it was brilliant. Er...bit of a fan boy request...you couldn't do one with Villa and Avon could you?
The 'he will fight' line nearly went in, but wasn't room. Wish I'd taken out the 'now you're just being modest' bit and let the music breathe a bit more.
Wouldn't mind doing a Vila/Avon one but it takes an age to sift through every episode and rip the clips.
Really appreciate that. I don't have enough Star Trek material for a Kirk & Spock one, a really good one anyway. Did you have anything in mind, music wise?
I loved the interplay behind these 2 one a strong suvivor the other an strong idealist, the best part of the series was watching Avon become a believer, putting aside his own instincts and taking up blakes cause.
I agree with the comments made, you have done a fantastic job of putting together the "essence" of their relationship. It was always true that Avon admired and respected Blake but simply did not show it - you captured the emotive element fantastically :o)
Great to hear that. Makes all the hours of work worthwhile. The orginal edit for fried with the PC, which is a bugger cos I'd like to redo it. Maybe take out a couple of dialogue clips, just to let the music breathe a bit more.
Wow! I love this and they should make a new version of this now, I would love to see it remade.
The story and characters are just amazing, or failing a remake, how about a continuation, with new characters, if memory serves me right I think Avon was supposed to survive in the books with Villa, the rest unfortunately bit the dust.
It's called 'Afterlife' by Tony Attwood, who also wrote the episode guide book. Don't know how easy it is to get hold of, but there's some interesting comments on the Amazon website page about the book, where the author explains how it was meant to be turned into a new series or tv film but never came about due to contractual difficulties.
Although if it's post Gauda Prime stories you want, try fan fiction, there's hundreds of them!
Truly ordinary book if you ask me, not worth the time you'll spend trying to track it down which I think is one of the reasons that there's so much fan fiction.
fantastic! brilliant! bravo. the emotions of both characters, hate, trust, betrayal all run trough this film! if only a comback would happen! still...scifiassasin...beautiful piece of work
That my friends, was bloody brilliant! Absoutly brilliant. The marrage of music and video was just perfect. Its stuff like that which true fans put together that makes it all worth while. I salaute you. Might not mean mutch in this god forsaking climate of a world that we live in today but by god, it brought a tear to my eye where i thought there never could be. well done SciFiAssasin, well done!!!
i forgive you, the whole thing was very traumatic, daytime TV, an advert for old peoples electric scooters, with Paul Darrow sitting in one trying to flog them! my whole world fell apart. my hero now a zero :(
Really chuffed you like it. It's a great piece of music and there's tonnes of great material from B7 to choose from. It was a lot of fun to cobble together.
Wow, the Blake/Avon relationship plus Battlestar Galactica music (Bear McCreary's score is the GREATEST tv soundtrack of all time in my opinion) equals lump in throat. Sniffle. This is really, really, well done. Also thanks to Crycraven for getting me to watch this!
Yeah, his music's fantastic. Makes a huge difference to the quality of the show too, with so many different ethnic styles instead of the usual orchestral bombast.
Your choice of music, and the sequencing of it at the end (from "Avon - for what it is worth, I have *always* trusted you. From the very beginning.") is inspired. Growing up in the 70s means B7 was, is, and ever shall be a big part of my life. And this clip sequence, capturing the very essence and story of the Blake/Avon relationship, is sublime. Shed a wee tear? You have made a grown man cry like a baby. And this clip is now in my Bookmarks folder and in my FB profile.
"Have you betrayed ME?!" Fabulous. The complex relationship between blake and avon drove the show. Series three and four are really lack something without blake. Still, worth it for the final episode.
My favorite part is the swell that comes when Blake tells Avon "I have always trusted you". And then, of course, you juxtaposed it with the Finale, and the music fitted that, too.
The whole piece is very, very effective! Thank you!
This was great... you still left it open to intepretation, and while I've always been a sneaky Avon x Tarrant fan, this reminds me that Blake x Avon are an equally good pair

Bang, you hit the nail on the head there Sir. Avon and Blake, great characters.
JonusNavarre 3 years ago
Wow, that was fantastic. Really caught the essence of their complicated relationship. I absolutely loved it, thank you so much.
Elektra97 3 years ago
I agree with the comments made, you have done a fantastic job of putting together the "essence" of their relationship. It was always true that Avon admired and respected Blake but simply did not show it - you captured the emotive element fantastically :o)

Nicely put together. Excellent.

Great to hear that. Makes all the hours of work worthwhile. The orginal edit for fried with the PC, which is a bugger cos I'd like to redo it. Maybe take out a couple of dialogue clips, just to let the music breathe a bit more.

Funny enough so am I. It was well put together. Great editing and very memorable and great acting.

High time this was made into a movie.

Wow! I love this and they should make a new version of this now, I would love to see it remade.
The story and characters are just amazing, or failing a remake, how about a continuation, with new characters, if memory serves me right I think Avon was supposed to survive in the books with Villa, the rest unfortunately bit the dust.
StrWrsNut 3 years ago
Yeah Vila and Avon escape together and meet up with Tarrant, who's quickly killed.
Wasn't a great book, I thought.
SciFiAssasin 3 years ago
What was the book, please tell me, so i may read it.
JonusNavarre 3 years ago
It's called 'Afterlife' by Tony Attwood, who also wrote the episode guide book. Don't know how easy it is to get hold of, but there's some interesting comments on the Amazon website page about the book, where the author explains how it was meant to be turned into a new series or tv film but never came about due to contractual difficulties.
Although if it's post Gauda Prime stories you want, try fan fiction, there's hundreds of them!
penguinpetal 3 years ago
Truly ordinary book if you ask me, not worth the time you'll spend trying to track it down which I think is one of the reasons that there's so much fan fiction.
escarpe 2 years ago
Agreed, now if they'd gotten Robert Holmes to have a stab at it.....

Sorry I just accidentally deleted a comment about Paul Darrow appearing on ads for stairlifts or something. Didn't mean to. Sorry!
SciFiAssasin 3 years ago
i forgive you, the whole thing was very traumatic, daytime TV, an advert for old peoples electric scooters, with Paul Darrow sitting in one trying to flog them! my whole world fell apart. my hero now a zero :(

Wow, the Blake/Avon relationship plus Battlestar Galactica music (Bear McCreary's score is the GREATEST tv soundtrack of all time in my opinion) equals lump in throat. Sniffle. This is really, really, well done. Also thanks to Crycraven for getting me to watch this!
teabagteasdale 3 years ago
Yeah, his music's fantastic. Makes a huge difference to the quality of the show too, with so many different ethnic styles instead of the usual orchestral bombast.
Thanks for the kind comment.

SirJulian1975 3 years ago 4
That was always one of my favourite lines in the final episode.
pryorj2011 3 years ago

Nice fit of dialogue to music.
My favorite part is the swell that comes when Blake tells Avon "I have always trusted you". And then, of course, you juxtaposed it with the Finale, and the music fitted that, too.
The whole piece is very, very effective! Thank you!
astitchintimetosave9 4 years ago 2
I loved the track and the whole video stemmed from mucking about and sticking that part of the music over Blake telling Avon he trusts him.
Thanks for commenting.
