  • In China up to 1000 B.C had a folk religion that was monotheistic, beleived in the shedding of blood for the remission of sins&their emperor offered an animal sacrifice for the sins of the people like the high priest did in Judaism. China fell away from "Shang-Ti. These other religions came up. The book Eternity in Their Hearts by Don Richardson, Regal Books 1981.

  • Why was the "Italian Tourist" at 1:57 speaking German?

  • Lastly, Confucianism promotes education and the pursuit of knowledge. How does that retard scientific growth and thinking?

There is nothing wrong with worshipping and showing respect for one's ancestor. Not only is it morally correct, it also helps us to learn from the past.

If pure Confucian principles were to be used to produce a society, the society would most likely be mixed meritocratic/democratic in nature, not dictatorial like Legalism.

    Please research more on Confucianism.

  • Secondly, remember, Confucianism was created during the medieval times, times where EVERY SOCIETY demonstrated gender inequality. Gender equality was not addressed until during the 20th century. So why wasn't Confucianism updated? Look at the history of 20th century China. Western colonisation, rebellions, world war ii, cultural revolution, massacres, etc. It was never given the chance to update itself to the modern age.

21st century is now its chance. I will finish off in my next post.

  • Firstly, Confucianism does not preach blind obedience to one person. It preaches conditional obedience. Although the ruled should show loyalty, the ruler must show kindness and benevolence. If the ruler is inhumane, then simply put, he loses the right to rule and does not need to be obeyed. The idea of blind obedience was a product of Legalism. Oppressive rulers used Confucianism as an exterior to enforce what was essentially Legalistic principles.

I will continue in another post.

  • I can see how the Chinese Communist goverment would love people to learn Confucianism.

  • I think this vid got something seriously wrong somewhere. Confucius wasn't a 14th-century thinker. He was born nearly 2,500 years ago.

  • could it be possible that they were referring to the days of that Jesuit person who found Confucius writing that was written centuries before...

but yes, to set the record straight, Confucius time is like the Ancient periods (BC or BCE), way way way before the 14th century lol!.

  • I am chinese. Confucianism Kept China backward for 2500 years. It's nothing more than a propaganda for Emperor to rule China and a lot of Hypocrisy.

Does confucius teach that "ALL MEN/WOMEN ARE CREATED EQUAL"? Instead he preaches blind Obedience to One Person, the King/emperor.

It made us worship OLD things like our ancestor. It disconnect us from nature and from science. It retards any Kind of scientific discovery, invention, any free thinking, and any thing new.

  • please, go back to take some history courses. i believe you are talking about Neo-Confucianism. It's a lot different than Confucianism.

  • Even neo-Confucianism is highly progressive in many respects. It's only later down the centuries that the teachings slowly got distorted by those in positions of power with vested interests.

  • confucius is one of the wisest men ever

  • Confucius was born in 551 BC, but the video refers to the period the Confucius Temple was founded.

  • Confucianism is a philosophy not religious believe.

People worship Confucius is out of superstition not real believe.

  • Confucius (master Kong) birth in 28 September 551 BC
