Great classic movie. The women were beautiful: Irene Cara and Lonette McKee. The songs were hot and the storyline was phenomenal. The remake should be good with Whitney Houston. The remake will allow others who did not know about the original Sparkle to go and see it. It pays homage to the original Sparkle.

I was so pisssed off when they released the soundtrack of the movie and Aretha Franklin was singing all of the songs. Lionette McKee can sing her ass off. Lionette jammed on this song. I did not like Aretha's version of Jump. Lionette McKee and Irene Cara both can sing their asses off. When Sparkle came out both Lionette and Irene were not well known I think that's why they went with Aretha on the Soundtrack. I am watching Sparkle on TV now as I am typing this.

Irene Cara had hits in the early '80s, even winning an Oscar for co-writing Flashdance...What a Feeling, but Lonette McKee's voice has never gotten the audience it deserved. @RipSamantha they were in 2001. Aaliyah was supposed to play Sparkle but she died. Then the role went to Ashanti but due to delay and her needing to work on her 2nd album, Ch II, she dropped out. Then Whitney Houston bought the rights to the film and was going to remake it with Raven Symone as Sparkle but Dreamgirls came out so it's been on paused since then.

Beyonce is beautiful too. We don't always have to pit black woman/people against each other! There is room for more than just one beautiful black woman at a time! Why do we as black people feel the need to compare all the damn time! If they can have Angelina, Megan, Reese, Jennifer, Sandra, etc...Why can't we have Beyonce, Tyra, Naomi, Irene, Lonette, Keyshia, Halle, etc..? We need to STOP being victims of our society! The girl who play Sparkle looks just like Keyshia Cole except her hair is black. If it was a remake of this movie Keyshia would probably be a good match but I do agree with some of you guys on here about remaking this movie. It's a classic, & should be left alone.

I agree with you, Keyshia Cole is pretty, but nothing like Irene Cara, Irene Cara is darker, and has prettier hair. Lonette Mckee reminds of Beyonce with dark hair.

I'm just sorry that the young people have very limited references to even compare to. When you say that Irene Cara resembles Keyshia Cole it is not your fault, you just don't have enough variety in the music of your generation to even reference. I feel bad for these teens and 20 somethings because they don't have what we had.

Yes, I agree with you. As much as I like AK, I have to keep it real. IMHO, she could not do this role justice. It just doesn't fit. She can sing but I am not to crazy about the acting. They need to leave well enough alone. Doesn't anybody in HW have a creative thought? Why do they keep re-making movies?

Thank You I totally agree, SPARKLE is a classic movie it doesn't need a 21st century upgrade. I'm not saying that today's singers ain't got talent but they will probably never be able to rock it like the cast of the original SPARKLE!
