If you know anyone with a welding/machining shop and skill you could build yourself one pretty easily, might be less headache to just buy one, run you anywhere from 100 to 1000 dollars.

Thats quite true. I actually know someone who has built their own gokart. It didn't look so professional as the ones in the store but it was much much faster. (With the money he saved he just used it to buy a higher cc engine)
