This woman is amazing. Everything was so structured in the 70s and she must have been one of the first designers to come out with designs like this. They seriously revolutionized the way design was looked at by the general populace.
Like the serious vs solemn explaination. As a graphic designer/creativity is limited by project criteria, expectations and deadlines. We need time to explore, play to create something that isn't already been done or is a fad. I'm going to be more aware of solemn/serious. Many artist follow design trends rather than creating new ones.
"serious" is when you're engaged, while "solemn" is more like doing something you know you have to do (and you know has to be done in a certain way too). do you agree with me?
I may be the last person that doesn't support your opinion. Believe me! The only thing i've studied are art directions. Didn't go through with it, as in a professional way. Always love architecture, especially in a aesthetic point of view. But read my first words and my last sentence. I think I was trying to say that I feel less important than those people, so it's being opposite of stuck up. And it was more a reply to NOxyde who was over the top.
what a fucking moron. over 15,000 visitors (piss poor, middle class, rich tourists) go to the Louvre museum EACH DAY,to view great art. Do the math, now you'll have to say that practically most of the world's population are indeed fags. Designers and contemporary artists are the direct descendants of past masters in the canon of western art.
Don't be bitter just because you're a sad lifeless fool.
great talk, but the clicker noise kills it. Where the hell is the AV tech, just tell her at the beginning... The AV tech should be ashamed of themselves.
I second the motion on those looooong, booooring meetings where they seem to think the longer these meeting the more productive they are. cheers PAULA!
It isn't a mic malfunction. It's the ring in her hand knocking the plexy surface. Gotta replace your ears. They wont be there for 20 minutes but for the rest of your life ;)

Her designs are boring, as is most chaotic disorderly modern graphic design. Order is interesting, chaos is boring. Just as good reception is more interesting than static.
Yeah, it comes from that essay by Russell Baker that she quoted from I guess. She probably wouldn't be using those words to describe the concepts she was trying to express if it wasn't for that essay.
I like putting words on the floor, might as well use that space. I think stores should put the contents of an aisle on the floor graphically instead of making us look up to the signs.
I also think in a really subjective way, the real designers are not this, or furniture or landscape design. But those of cars, planes, NASA equipment and serious architecture. But that doesn't mean this can't also be interesting serious business.
Dude shut the fuck up. Running your mouth like a tough guy online. You and people like you are cowards.
You wouldn't DARE use those words offline or in front of any Jewish or Black people so enjoy this wonderful forum for free expression. But you're still a pussy.
I thought that calling art "bullshit" was ignorant... and then I saw the rest of your pathetic post.
might be the sound that her bracelet just makes(because it is annoying), being transmitted through the air and arm into the platform, where it is amplified, rather like a sound box, to the microphone just above. Great design huh?
contrary to your aggressive statement, I dont see many science related favorites under your profile. I dont have that many either, but I also dont complain like this.

I fully 100% agree with you. BUT
why is it that when I make a comment like that some fuck face says to me something stupid like:
"Don't watch it then."
The presentation is just as important as the idea isn't it?

I don't agree with her tying the distinction to the words "solemn" and "serious", but a terrific talk nonetheless.
DigitalAssassin 3 years ago
It's actually a very Zen concept, the distinction between solemn and serious.
lainieyeoh 3 years ago
@lainieyeoh If it is a zen concept, then she destroys it by describing it.

"Solemn" is phoney and pretentious.
"Serious" is sincere and authentic.

Interesting. I'm glad to hear this from a mainstream artist...nobody wants to be boring! Thank goodness.
Where's the food/science? :D :D I'd be interested in hearing more futurism and gastronomics.

if you want JUST "science," go ahead and search for those videos.
are you such a close-minded, self-absorbed ignoramus that you think TED was just made for YOU and what YOU want?
