  • my dad said when he was younger he used to get his dad (my grandpa) to drill a hole into a quarter and then he'd steal a spoon from the drawer and tap around the edges to turn it into a ring. this reminded me of that.

  • Fantastic video!

  • wtf

  • there's got to be a way without a drill :S

  • use a nail and hammer to put the hole in the middle and then place the blade through the hole to cut center out., that way no power tools are needed.

  • My ring (I'm still tapping it) is no where near as neat as that! However, I'm having a lot more trouble getting the hole in the middle. Anyone help me?

  • He's probably using a drill or dremel to cut out the middle.

  • Have you seen the coin rings on eBay with the lettering on the "outside" of the ring? That's what I would like to learn, I wish someone would show how to do that here on YouTube.

  • @yrusonoitall buy a jewelers mandrel and a plastic mallet, drill a hole in the center of a quarter - put it on the mandrel, hammer it down to size, it will start to curve on you, once it's to the right size hammer it flat on the mandrel. Practice makes perfect

  • I mean not file, sorry, but just to cut out the center?

  • What are you using to file it out?

  • what kind of metal is acceptable?

  • way too much talking. could you make a shortened version...

  • how did he make it hallow cause i dont know how cause i got the shape correct but i dont know what to do now

  • Man, I should do this. :D

  • ive made heaps of these with Australian 20 cent and a fijian 10 cent but they are leaving brown and green lines where the rings have been, why is this happening and how can i stop it?

  • that is the coolest user name how come neither my dad or me could come up with that

  • haha my dad learned how to do this when he was deployed to Vietnam, he did it with a spoon though

  • I don't understand how he took out the center of the ring...

  • @constantinearaujo He drilled a hole in the inside (you can see it at 10:03 in the head ) and put in the hand saw's "blade" (the string basically) and cut it all round...

  • Just last night I went to some art thing, and there was a professional blacksmith there :) He gave me a quarter when I showed interest, and said that I could tap the sides, and eventually it will become wider like a ring.

  • WOW...you have it!! The One Ring! What was that written round the inside .... 'One Ring To Rule Them All' was it??!!

  • somehow i bet if i were to try this, this is just one of those DIY youtube videos that is actually WAY HARDER than it looks.

  • simply incredible. Fantastic work!

  • this video is dum

  • @DAYJAH2 Aww, don't feel to bad you can't do something so simple. why else would you say this is dumb lol

  • Heating the coin before shaping it may keep it from cracking as it did in the video.

  • This is great, my husband and I just got married, and are both extremely crafty. I believe he's making my ring out of wood, and I think this will be a great way to make his ring since I don't have any expirence with wood-working tools like him.

  • Wow that's pretty. Cool.

  • i tried to make it with my freind its really hard thickning it

  • ur dad is strong, to use that

  • As kids we used to make silver rings from pre-1965 U.S. quarter-dollar coins, but we'd use a tablespoon's curved surface to whack the coin edge as we turned the coin in the other hand. Took longer than with a hammer, but the curved edge automatically took the shape of the spoon curve. The finished ring almost polished itself, and there was little chance of getting things out of round.

  • JUST SEEN ONE ON EBAY & WANTED TO SEE SOMEONE MAKE ONE ... THANKS FOR SHARING : )

SORRY BOUT THE CAPS ... HIT CAP LOCK TWICE :(

  • I made my wife a ring I used an old us mess kit spoon that way it wouldn't crack turned out great, I left all the tiny dents in it so it kina looked cool she loved it. Now on to the inside out ring

  • I like your vid very much I love finding out how things are done About the cracking as you hammer it the metal is getting harder and harder and so it cracks the trick is to keep heating it up from time to time with a blowtourch to very hot then let it cool slowly till it is cold this makes the metal go soft (No cracking) then when the ring is finished ready to put on your finger heat it up to very hot and cool it quickly it will harden it back to the way it was when you started. hope this helps.

  • My dad gave me a ring that he made out of a quarter when he was really young. His finger was almost cut off once in a mechanical accident in the air force but the ring saved it. It's one of my most prized possessions.

  • someone has described a ring and wondered how it was made, we think we have worked out how it was done so we will try and show you and this ring WILL BE FOR SALE ON EBAY keep your eyes peeled, as this video will be made tomorrow!... THIS WILL BE MADE FROM A 1966 WORLD CUP WINNING YEAR SIXPENCE AND SIZES WILL BE SHOWN IN VIDEO AND/OR DESCIPTION

  • i've got Indonesian rp100 coin 1991edition, many told that it has a gold content. BTW nice video content, I want to try it

  • 01:03 "its too small" lolz xD !!

  • i remember this video, i was meaning to try this ill have to give it ago

  • Amazing :)

  • I've made a couple of these, they both skewed a bit, I put it down to being a bit heavy handed with the hammer. My dad made some when he was younger & told me how to do it....they do tarnish quick though if you don't coat them.

  • Hey man!! i love the tutorial, i made a ring out of an Australian 20 cent peice and it came out immaculatly, im making another for my girlfriend because she has much much smaller fingers than me. Thanks again

  • the reason that the metal cracked is because you hammered it while it was cool.

i'm a blade smith, and this happens to me very often when i get impatient on a knife

  • a shilling???

  • Good job

  • "tapping it for an hour now"

    legend...

  • but none the less very very cool :D i will make it :) what materials could you use to bevil the ring?

  • coping saw

  • Are you from....?

  • your dad had to make a video to show you? he couldnt just show you in person.....

  • @hellcheezie are you stupid? this video was for youtube and to show me, so we could show the world how to make these...

  • @hellcheezie u're an idiot, man ..

  • @hellcheezie Stfu you dick.

  • Amazing! Thanks for sharing!

  • How is that Punch and Die set anyways? The reviews aren't great on the website for it, but I wouldn't think that you would really need anything too exact if it's just a basic ring you're trying to make, right?

  • My brother sort of taught me how to make those out of nickels when I was a kid. I made a couple that were ok, but I don't know if the smashed thumbs were worth it lol

Definitely getting one of those Punch and Die sets though, that looks sooo much easier than what I did (Punched and hole and then just hammered it until it was ring shaped lol).

    Thanks for the great vid!

  • can you make this with a us quarter

    or a penny?

  • @deathmast403 You can't make a finger ring from a penny. It's too small. Maybe a toe ring.

    As for quarters? Probably.

  • What an interesting tecnique, I might have a go at that.

Silver content of British coins is, pre 1920 is 92.5% silver-7.5% copper, pre1947 50% silver- 50% copper, from 1948 to present all silver coloured coins are 75% copper-25% nickle. the cracking is due to work hardening and can be reduced by annealing.

  • it is kinda to small

  • can you give us the measurements to the coin you used? that would be awesome!

  • can you give us the measurements to the coin you used? that would be awesome!

  • 8 people don't have money..

  • This is such a great idea! I wish I had access to all these tools, but I'd probably just hammer my fingers and saw them off right afterwards. That seems just like me. Would be a great alternative to a wedding band if we had access to coins that big.

  • 7:52... OMG i can't stand that sound.!

  • pushing that stick through the coin did not look right

  • can u also drill the center out?

  • ARRRGGGHHH SCREECHING NOISE!!!

    good vid btw tho

  • the coins he is using ceased to be legal tender some time ago

  • thanks! very good to watch this

  • will the ring rust? if so, how do u stop that? thanks great job btw ;D

  • @redviolin1231 the ring is cupronickel (copper & Nickel) So it wont rust but would make your finger go green LOL ,,I had mine silver plated..

  • @tittytwister5251 how much does it cost to get it silver plated? or gold plated? thanks :D

  • This is lovely. Thank you for sharing.

  • Hello After all that why didnt you show how and what you did to driill out center?

  • @SinistrChevy

    Yep, he skipped that one

  • @SinistrChevy Have a look at 7mins 30 secs small drill and frett saw !!!

  • ...id tap that ;)

  • @RicardoFeria no it isnt a crime, the crime is if you do it fraudulently. he is not...hes not claiming this is now worth 20x its value or anything....

  • @TwoTekah no, it's a crime to destroy money in any country lol by your logic if you burn 1 million euros/dollars/whatever in front of a police nothing happens to you.

  • @RicardoFeria.....FAG.

  • @RicardoFeria LOL ,,LOL These coins are no longer legal tender

  • @tittytwister5251 What the fuck man i was just joking and now there's like 50000000 comments fuck off lol

  • @tittytwister5251 HATS THE POINt

  • @RicardoFeria WOW.... Just wow. I'm actually gonna make one beacuse its a crime. lol and because i feel my money is my money if its in my pocket....Or on my fingers.

  • @RicardoFeria it really isn't illegal, i know you were joking but so long as you are not trying to pass off the "coin" as a currency its totally fine

  • @RicardoFeria

you are an idiot, to say the least..

  • @RicardoFeria why is this a crime?

  • @RicardoFeria is a gonk

  • @RicardoFeria It's only illegal if you are trying to use it for monetary gain.

  • @RicardoFeria

    retard!

  • @RicardoFeria obvious troll is obvious

  • @RicardoFeria your fucking retarded even if they were still legal tender its legal as long as your not creating false currency or duplicating them you dumb fuck

  • You're dad seems awesome

  • thats really amazing just by tapping with a hammer never would have guessed that one :P

  • Does it tarnish? And If so, how do you remove it?

  • @Sanguinarian15 It will with time as everything does LOL ;-) I silver plated this one and have worn it ever since !! No probs :-) ...

  • Very cool!!!

  • its kool but i think its illegal to do that

  • @joe222100 yes I think I've heard that too... but who is really going to notice what you made it out of unless you tell them or they look really close...

  • could u do it in english this time?

    lol pwnd

  • Were Do You guys Come From

  • Lol At 5:35 i thought there was a quarter inside the ring lol

  • Cool

  • Go back 200 hundred years and you would have been hung for this it would have been seen as being a traitor against the Queen Monarchy, however this is 2011 and i suppose anything is acceptable in these days no-one seems to care anymore, but money is money and the coins are no longer useable, but the idea is good well done.

  • You did a fantastic job and now I'm gonna make one myself I remember someone telling me that you could make one from a dime or something by hitting it with a spoon and people used to do it in prison I tried it when I was a kid and hen I ran into the dilemma how do I get rid of the center and gave up lol

  • I love it. I got some coins from my Uncle. Cuban and I drilled holes in them to hang them from a chain and thought I was destroying history. I would hate to remove the art to make a ring but, it would be fabulous.

  • very nice results

  • *wounders* bam on the table* he wounders how it cracks.... *reason found* thumb it up :P

  • *wounders* bam on the table* he wounders how it cracks.... *reason found*

  • I would guess that the ring began to crack because of over working the metal through cold working, work hardening, strain hardening what ever you want to call it. You can prevent this by annealing the metal basically heating it up and cooling it slowly in the air. this will improve its ductility. very nice ring

  • that sounds like it would take really long since it took half an hour just for that first one

  • why dont you cut the ring at a gap between the writing then turn it inside out ant then you could size it also so then weld it back together

  • @sciencefact the point was to not use any power tools

  • U.S. coins wont work because they aren't made of silver or other precious metals there made of zinc and nickel. but i wouldn't go using a silver doller cause there worth more than you might think.

  • @hotrod1273 You can use US coins that are pre 1964 such as Half Dollars, quarters and dimes which are 90% silver. Also 1970 through 1965 on Half Dollars they are 40% silver which could work to.

  • wow ur amazing!God Bless you and your gift

  • OMG I WANT ONE !

    or like many ...

But i dont have the tools :/

Cant you father take orders and do one to me ? (A) haha

  • @maagnifiquee Whole idea is to have a go yourself !! Saw another ring the other day that looked as if the coin had been turned inside out ... the guy wanted to sell them i think so didnt show how they were made ...iv worked it out and i may post a new vid on how its done !!! Keep on tapping !!! ;-)

  • @tittytwister5251 i want to do it my self but i cant i cant fin any coin big enoiugh or with mostly silver in it here in sweden !

  • @tittytwister5251 I've seen rings like that, too, where you can read the lettering on the coin or see part of the design on the outside of the band. A tutorial on that type of ring would also be much appreciated!

  • very original, may be one could make a ring from e.g. silver by this method?

then again I have never seen a thing like this!

  • or eu could use the coin o buy a ring:p

  • NOW THAT'S TALENT!! i enjoyed watching :)

  • awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome awesome

  • I made one...but it turns out it has warped quite bit. any tips on shaping it back?

  • /you're dads is awesome. I'm trying to make a ring right now.

  • wow !

  • can I use coins that are not fro, the 60's but 2000's

  • @junkosei1 Yes, but the metal will be a lot harder to work with. Canadian quarters, for example, are about 94% steel, so be a bit more careful with it than this guy is.

  • i did it but it just worped the coin

  • That is brilliant, I've never seen a ring made like this before, and I was wondering if you would have to damage the Queen's head, and you didn't.

I think coins of that period had quite a lot of Silver in them, though I don't know how much.

I wonder if it could be done with a 50 pence or 10 pence piece, I have an old 10 pence piece which is around the size of a half-crown (I think) I just need to try it, got most of the tools apart from the saw. I could do with an anvil, or a vice like yours.

  • at 1:01 theres a DILDO!!!!!!!!!

  • your dad is awesome

  • dude thats fuckin kick ass i want to make one now

  • Does your dad have any tips for keeping the ring round and even while doing the initial hammering?

  • Comment removed

  • This is sooo AMAZING! I didn't think that this was possible! I am definitely trying this tommorow, haha :D

  • cool eh?

  • Yes!! At last I know what I can do with my mums box of old coins!! Thanks for posting! ;)

  • nice but could i do this with a quarter?

  • Comment removed

  • @thisguysjewish2010 yeah you can do it with a quarter, the best is to use a quarter before 1864 because that was when quarters were still made out of 100% silver

  • Awesome, just awesome, going to have a go myself. Thanks.

  • Very informative video! Your father did a good job. I tried making a ring following this video. I used a Morgan silver dollar (90% silver). I was fine until I got to the drilling part and using the hacksaw. While in the vice, the coin actually cracked, & I was unable to fix it. Where did I go wrong? What should I have done? I didn't have too much pressure on the coin whilst in the vice. I want to try again & also later use a gold coin, but I don't want to make the same mistake(s). Thank you.

  • cool but i cant i it :(

  • very very good effort... your rings are very unique and one of a kind.... ^_^

    i likve it...

  • i think the ring is cool !Is your dad a jewelry maker?

  • @MrVisbas No lol ;-) He`s an Electrician now but worked as an engineer for years....

  • booooooooring !!!!

  • he talks WAY TOO MUCH!!!!! otherwise, it's nice

  • lol my friend said he made his ex girlfriends engagement ring by hand so i was like wtf and googled it and it brought me to this video!

  • are you poor or something using a 2 shilling coin for a wedding ring HAHA

  • @Hyzing i would imagine that it holds much more meaning to him if he's made it himself. there's something timeless and special about a hand-made ring. ESPECIALLY one that takes this much time and effort.

  • @Hyzing kind of wierd that you talk about being poor when your uploads are just you playing a couple stupid free games for little kids on the internet. its hard to find this kind of cool info on making a ring and they are certainly more worth someones time than playing AdeventureQuest for free all day with the other 3rd graders...

  • Verey beutiful wat started out as a simple coin became a very nice ring i think ill try to make a ring like that to soon that is a good ring very nicely done

  • OMG I Love your UserName

  • After a hundred taps or so, anneal the coin, by hitting it with a torch, just don't melt it! Then let the ring cool to room temperature. Annealing it removes the stresses in the coin so it won't crack.

  • ur "Dad" sounds austrailian Australia is awsome tho :)

  • My brother made me one of these many years ago they don't train the kids these days to do this skill

  • now does it matter what kind of coin u use? I was wondering and how do u make the sides just tap it with the hammer thats it?!?! :)

  • Quality! Would heating the coin up make the hammering part easier and quicker?

  • awesome job!!!!...

  • what is the actual make up of the coins that you used? I live in canada, and was wondering what coins I could use.

  • one ring to rule them all

  • Great video! I love how you just use simple hand tools that anyone can use.

  • Comment removed

  • does the coin have to be silver or can it be just a normal coin because i live it the states and after 1968 they stopped making the coins have silver in the unless for a special reason so it would be harder to find

  • yawm frum the black cuntree aye ya?! :)

  • wcgems .. im talking about your $20 pencil torch .. not oxygen/acetelene .. been working with metals long enough to offer suggestions .. and no, i would not want to spend 3 days making a ring .. the labor charge would be outrageous lol ... fire is a tool that doesnt detract from metal formation in a hand crafted piece .. Fire is our Friend ... errrrrrrrrrrr

  • Hell with it. Im American idk what a chilling (SP?) looks like. Good Vid though.

  • im gonna put mine on a drill bit to spin it and use that to shine it with silver polish, or brasso, sorry for bad spelling

  • what a lovely ring

  • This is so cool! I can´t wait to try that by myself! :D

  • how do you start the hole in the center?
