  • because there is*

  • the fact that they did this with the song new life is sort of eerie to me. In hindsight nico didn't bring new life into shannon, he lost his battle. Its like a prediction of that. Its crazy because of there is a quality of this song that seems to transcend time. Its just odd.

  • Hey man, this is all great stuff. Are you part of Blind Melon? I see you got a ton of their stuff up. I'm just curious. You had posted on a cover my band does.

  • I found this ages ago. it's at the end of 'Lemonade', after like 5 minutes.

  • @ NOLINJAMS. hahhahaha yeah ourlove is right. duh dude he's one of the lead guitarists for blind melon.

  • ourlove is right, the guitar track is Michael Kelsey. It is played normal (forward). I asked him about it at a show at The Slippery Noodle in Indy. He lives in Indiana where Shannon lived most of his life. The guitar on it is obviously his style if you ever hear or see him play.

  • Cont... "The secret track on the Soup album was done like this: we had this piece of acoustic guitar music from Shannon's friend Mike Kelsey.... We all played a bunch of stuff on it...I played piano and some other stuff, just kept piling stuff on it. Then we took the song "New Life" and flipped the reels upside down so it was playing in reverse and dumped the backwards vocals on the instrumental track. We were all shocked at how well it worked....just an accident." -Roger Stevens

  • Only the lyrics are reversed. It's the vocals from "New Life"...

  • @LuxeXx - yes er ee.. you're right it is New Life backwards. But the music is apparently a track that has been inverted(not backwards, but inverted) Not sure what track it is either.

  • @CaptainHighTop - It was just an unused instrumental. There is always plenty of that stuff...

  • @LuxeXx - it is a Melon track inverted. I was actually told by a member of the band when I met them in 1993(C Thorn). I was lucky to see Melon 7 times in the 1990's, got backstage several times and was on their guest list once. I speak only melon fact.

  • @CaptainHighTop - Right, but I can almost guarantee you the music track is not on an album. You should also know then, that this band had several instrumentals that we never released.

  • @LuxeXx - Yup, no doubt about it. I was just going by what i was told. Its hard to tell what exactly it is. Like you said could very be an unreleased instrumental track. I just can't find any software to invert tracks. Reverse yes, but not invert and I have a whack of music software for recording, editing, mastering ect...

Thanks for the conversation man, Peace = Pemedy

    RIP Richard Shannon Hoon.

  • @CaptainHighTop If you invert a track in a music editing program, it just flips the left and right audio banks, which doesn't necessarily change how it sounds. The backing instrumental could be "inverted" but who could tell? Most likely the person you talked to was referring to the backwards vocals, and that is all.

  • @breakingglass27 - It was Rogers Stevens who told me... But....I was piss drunk each time I met them. That is the only reason I thought that. Cheers.

  • Its backwards..

  • @Dirtmurder - actually as far as i know its inverted.
