Whatever anyone says about this song and autumn, I just looked out while listening to this and the slowly falling snow in the half darkness goes with this just as well as any other rather stagnant and beautiful moment.
Amazing song and nice and easy to play for someone who hasn't touched a piano in years, without being childish or boring.
As I die and rise into the endless universe my soul song will begin to play, while my uninhibited mind plays me the movie of my life. Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No.1will play as the last song I ever listen to, this song is my soul song.
@rman2590 Why do you feel out of place? If you appreciate and like it, then own up to it. Learn as much as you can about it. Then no one will care that you're only thirteen.
I hope this can be posted on facebook? Come on, Mr and Mrs Facebook, get your act together. Beautiful tune, by the way!
I dont usually like these comments, but seriously?!?!? who the hell would dislike this... .26 people clearly have no taste whatsoever.... just sayin :)
This beutiful piece of music has been on my mind for years. I never knew who wrote it until about a week ago. I am so in love with this song. Is there another version written by a different artist? I think I have heard a version with a flute??
26 dislikes what the hell, people always have to dislike something, even if a cure for cancer was invented i bet you would still get dislikes, anyway im 25 and this piece of music has always had a special place in my heart, im not an emotional guy by any means, but if this absolutely profound and if this music did not bring out some sort of a reaction in me then i wouldnt be human, its music like this which gives me hope in humanity, even thought the worlrd is full of bullshit.
the first time i listened to this was in the surf movie "riding giants". it went along with beautiful slow motion shots of a guy riding a wave which was about 60-80 foot high... and now, everytime i play this on the cello, it reminds me of those images :)
This is music without time, it is art. For me Eric Satie is that kind of man who, for example. If he ran out of ink while he composed a play he would let the piece stand unfinished as it was and thought that was the fate. If the name of the play he was composing was unfinished and he ran out of ink Perhaps he would let the play be called "Gymnop". Eric Satie was a strange man , that maked him a genius.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. This is number one of three compositions called the "Gymnopédies" written by French composer Erik Satie back in 1888. Autumn is finally here, Enjoy.
