@ILoveDiamond0607 Because for a few years now Jerry Nelson, who voices the Count, has been ill with emphysema. Because of that he had to back out on the classic Muppets but still does the Count and his other Sesame Street characters today. But he can't actually do the puppetry now so Matt Vogel puppeteers the Count while Jerry does the voice off camera.

I doubt they we're trying to be anti-Semitic. But you have to agree it is a cute song. Though I truly believe Sesame Street has gone overboard with Elmo and has basically taken a wonderful background muppet and made him center stage for no true reason. Sorry Kevin Clash. But Elmo is a bit overrated.
