@jhcdnx It's inevitable that the popularity of a certain act will be shaped by the customs, beliefs and ignorance particular to any given country. In Pakistan for example someone burning the US flag may not attract much criticism at all outside liberal circles. That's just normal and the same is true in the US. It's also worth noting that there was strong condemnation by many Americans with regards to the proposed Koran burning.
@jhcdnx With respect to the Burka, I am generally uncomfortable with the idea of regulating what people wear. However, if people wear clothing that covers their face (outside medical reasons) I think some kind of regulation is acceptable. For example I don't want everyone to walk around in balaclavas/ski masks. So we regulate the covering of the face as opposed to attire in general. The headscarf for example can look quite chic. For me it's just about the covering of the face.
@jhcdnx Also, my understanding is that the burka is a cultural practise as opposed to a religious one (if it was a religious necessity most of the Muslim world would be sinning for example). Noone, irrespective of religious background, should be able to cover their face in public. For me it's just a security issue, and yes, I demand the right to see everyone's face in public life.
But, instead of banning it on state level (which is totally ridiculous) some public places could ban it for security reasons. For example airports, police stations and places like that.
I really don't see a problem with only walking around with it without doing any harm and go to the grocery store for example.

He deduced that the Earth was round by measuring the shadows of particular points in Alexandria and Sinnai. Not only did he deduce that it was spherical, but also the circumference of the Earth.
