Love how it transforms with the whirring gears and alarm sounds. Wish they thought about a more efficient way for it to grab the gunpod. Just grabbing it in the air seems risky. It should have some mechanism to transfer it to the hand from the forearm.
I think the reason why the art in Zero looks so much better than in Frontier is that the designs are just much more believable. The transformation sequence for the Alto's valkyrie reminds me more of Michael Bay's Transformers than the sequence for Roy's valkyrie.
@nightslash3535 it is, and that's because they had fewer episodes to put out in Zero, meaning they had more time (and money) to spend on the graphics and other stuff that makes us fans happy. though i must say that Frontier is also good, just not as good as Zero.
How would the pilot survive the forces involved in the transformation of a VF fighter? All that stuff according to macross lore happens in about 1-3 seconds. O_O
Well Macross Zero takes place in the Unification Wars. As described from what Roy Focker said he shot down over 180 planes in the unification wars. From what he said in Macross SDF.
This is actually a prequel to the Original Macross. It brings about the first VF Jet made, and I think it takes place during the First Macross War, whilst the original series takes place one year after.
Yeah it takes place as you said a year before SDF Macross. The name of the war going on now is the UN Wars, which was also mentioned in passing in SDF Macross. It was basically World War 3, with the nations of the UN vs the Anti-UN coalition. The landing of the ASS-1 (later recommissioned as SDF-1) put a stop to all the fighting and finally united humanity once we realized we were not alone in the universe.
That is not correct. The war was going on before it lands. The crash landing of the ship caused the nations to call a cease fire and brought all the great minds of the world to examine and rebuild it. The varitech was built as a result of them discovering that the aliens who built the ship were giants.
no for that is blasphemy macross is done by japan and is well animated america dubbed sdf macross but for robotech they animated season 2 and 3 made fairly obvious by the less sleek looking mecha and sloppy repeat animation...
Man, what? Seasons 2 & 3 of Robotech are also dubbed Japanese series and not American animated. Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross & Genesis Climber Mospeada respectively.
@xwingvmanx no....the war started because of the ship crash landing, some people wanted to unify the earth against the threat and others wanted to stay indipendent, it was called the unification wars, macross zero is supposed to be the end of the war. google macross vs robotech Besides, never in robotech did a Valkyrie fight against another valkarie like you saw here or humans against humans in an act of war, And macross is not robotech, robotech is just 3 animies (with the same art style) fused
This video really doesn't do the experience justice. If you can get it on DVD or a high quality rip online, the bass that pumps out as Roy is firing his gunpod is invigorating. I must have watched this scene 100 times when this first came out.
But u gonna need wings to fly in atmosphere, and wings could be used to carry more weaponries. Basically a Valkyrie is a concept of multi-purpose unit, it's a land, air, space 3in1 unit. =)
The VF-1 and later are technically plasma rocket fighters rather than jet, but that's neither here nor there.
Valkyries are meant to be variable, they're not specialized for any particular environment but do well in all three. If you're looking for a more realistic treatment of Macross, you're really best off watching the original SDF: Macross rather than Zero.
I wonder where the fuel tanks are...the engine must be one hell of a thrust producer to be able to lift the entire robot without the wings...would be awesome if a real one can be built...but it's just plain fiction...no technology to make this happen
A Vf-1 weight 18 tons fully loaded, each engines produce 11 tons of thrust, well enough to hover. A single f35 engine produce 18 tons of thrust... The engine technology is there, now to figure out the whole transformation process... ^^'
Well, I have come up with a system for robotic locomotion for Battroid mode. Basically, it will use an endoskeleton which contains the engine parts and electronics and carbon nanotubes outside the endoskeleton will act as artificial muscle to move the endoskeleton just like a human skeleton and the "skin" will cover these components and act as the airframe in Fighter mode.
The artificial muscles will be controlled by what I call the Artificial Muscle Memory System or AMMS, which is a network of computers, each controlling a limb, which will be controlled by a single Master Computer in the cockpit. These networked computers will regulate each limb's motion and make the necessary adjustments. I got this last idea from Gasaraki. The carbon nanotubes might be used in the transformation process as well, as they are 53 times stronger than stainless steel.
The material I am proposing to use as artificial muscle, carbon nanotubes, are several times stronger than steel yet 100,000 times thinner than a strand of human hair. How is that for saving space?
Carbon nanotubes are several orders of magnitude stronger than steel... in the case of tensile strength. They are, however, much weaker against compression. Nanotubes are pretty useless for everything except space elevators. :P
Probably not. The joints seen here are pretty small and the power needed for the servos to produce enough torque would quickly overheat them. If you want a super-strong robot that can best a Zentradi, hydraulic actuators are the strongest but fluid storage and the added weight would be a problem. The artificial muscles sound promising and scaled up, they look the most feasible. We're over a year late for the events in this anime and there are no transforming fighters. That kinda sucks.
Eh, I think you forget the source material for these stories. They can go 10X(plus) the speed of light in Star Trek, and there are teleporters, The Force, and Lightsabers(still trying to figure that one out). My point? The alien tech/unknown energy/alloy/Matrix/imagination angle is the easy out explanation in the Sci-Fi world. And that's alright by me..... Don't even get me started on comic books..........
Roy is da man!!

Let me rephrase just a bit. The landing of the ASS-1 starts the UN Wars in a bid for control of the ship, but once the war ends humanity is united.

To speak of Veritechs, you're thinking of Robotech.
Here's the Macross chronology.
July, 1999: ASS-1 crashlands on Earth.
August, 1999 - UN investigation teams announced.
December, 1999 - ASS-1 determined to be crewed by enormous aliens.
June, 2000 - Alien existence announced, plans for United Earth Government announced.
July, 2000 - Outbreak of disputes around the world begin the U.N. Wars.
So the UN Wars begin one year after ASS-1 lands on earth.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use servos at the joints instead of artificial muscles? Because I think that would free space inside the limbs.
