@OlivierLatryfan Its possible that they *cut* of the reverb but most likely it hast to do with 1.microphone position and 2.the amount of people in the building. Cochereau himself wondered how it was possible to have 7 s. reverb on one rec. and almost no reverb on an other recording. solution: one time during concert with 3000 people...the other time in an empty notre-dame by night :)
The same "problem" happened to me when I played at St. Paul's in San Diego (Aeolian Skinner organ from 1953). During the practice session, we had about 3 seconds of reverb. During the concert however, we had almost none!
That's strange because if I hear the end of the final of the impro, the sound remains approx. 2 seconds before disappearing. In ND it remains 4s on any piece I have, and there is 7s reverb.
Maybe they have found a way to cut the reverb for the recording (for the Washington CD)
I think it must have been the microphone placement. I don't have the CD yet, but I expect Ed Kelly was the recording engineer. He's recorded pipe organs all over America. He usually does a great job of catching reverb, not blocking it.
I have engineered and mastered many recordings at the Washington Cathedral beginning in 1986. However, but the recent Latry recital recording for JAV was not one of my recordings.
C'est ma improvisation préférée d'Olivier Latry.Absolument formidable.Bravo!

That's amusing, I just bought the Washington CD, it seems there is not much reverb in this cathedral.

Not much reverb? It's about 7 seconds, I think -- maybe more. We who have sung in it think it has TOO MUCH reverb !!

Ed, I didn't think it sounded as good as your recordings ;-)

I heard Latry @ Washington Cathedral several months ago -- a true virtuoso, & an improvisateur following in the footsteps of Cochereau.
