Man the movie was WAAAYYYY off. He escaped from the pendulum by throwing meat in the ropes and the rats ate them. After he was almost crushed by fired walls closing in and fell into the pit and then he was saved.

i have to do a project about this story, and I have to say: the more i find out about Edgar A. Poe, the more fascinating and admirable he becomes.... I though this was a very interesting movie, but because i have not (and probably will not due to lack of time and sheer laziness) read all of the story,tell me, what did the man and woman coming in have to do with the story? All my partners told me was that there was a man that ran in and saved the tortured man.... is that what that is?

I will admit I can't remember exactly how the tortured man is saved in Poe's story... but I do know there was no man and woman like the ones in the video here. The film version of "PatP" has very little to do with the actual story--just that one guy gets strapped to a pedastal in a pit and there's a pendulum, heh.

@lyndeskier There were rats all around and he used some kind of fat (or something similar, what attracts rats) on bounding ropes, they jumped on him and cutted the ropes with bitting/eating them. Just in last seconds he escaped. Except of rats he was there alone. That was the first half of story. then there was a Pit.... I recommend Poe's stories, they are mostly horroric, but very very sensible written.

but probably a pretty faithful adaptation of the Poe story could be done as a basic short film with one to four people in the film.

As you know Eric Woolfson grew up with those movies and was inspired by them for the first album of the Alan Parsons Project. Only, I would have used the instrumental part2 between parts1&3, with images like a flashback. As they say when one is near a violent death he sees all his life in few seconds..
