The flipside to that statement is how can there be peace when there is war? Peace is still far out of reach and wars are still waged based on pure monetary and economic gains. Keep in mind that FDR created an embargo on Japan and provoked an attack.. but we ended up spending most of our war machine effort on... europe? Looking back at WW2 with the view of 'America&co stopped the Nazis from invading the world' is a narrow way of looking at the past.

If you pay attention to the 2nd part of the lyrics, you might see that the lyrics are connected with war. The singer admits that she felt a connection to the victims in the newspapers. She strides to actually make a difference instead of just paying taxes and further supporting the war. Anyway, it really depends on how you interpret the lyrics. I also disagree that the music is misplaced. This powerfully emotional song combined with war images paints a mental picture. iHateCharacterCountLimit.
