I did not grow up during the time Dlip Kumar and Madhubala reigned the Hindi Movies. They were the best. When they got together, they cast a magical spell. Even today, those movies have value that can not be compared to T & A movies of today. As a matter of fact, I seldom view any movie made after 70. The last movie I saw in India was Pakeezah, the incredible Meena Kumari.

They will be one of those couples that romantics like me can always think about! What stopped them from gettin together when they were so much in love - what ego, problems, who knows. But man how beautiful do this man and woman look together wow. Breathtaking Madhubala and debonair Dilip. They would have made a handsome jodi.Now they will forever be remembered for their passion and ahoori prem kahani...sigh. Both were(he still is) gorgeous on screen and good actors too.
I guess in our lifetime this is where another Laila-Majnoon legend was born. Had they married it would have been another bollywood/hollywood union like Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor. It is sad it did not happen but the we would have lost all the emotions and sad feelings that emerged from their failure to unite. Perhaps they might still find each other in the after life universe.
Just by reading all comments about Dilip and Madhubala reveals the prtective instincts of men. They all felt that Dilip should have protected this vulnerable and sweat woman. He should have stepped to the plate and recued her from her stupid father and that no-goodman Kishore Kumar. I feel the same way. I wish I could have rescued her. @OLDBOLLYWOODISGOLD About Dev Anand I am not sure. The rumor is that he saved her from drowning and they fell in love. It is also rumored that he "saved" Kalpana Kartak from drowing. That makes him a serial drowner. Dev was pretty, not handsome. Raj Kapoor was married and Nargis was stupid. Dilip kumar, being a pashtun having a retaliatory nature kind of got in the way. He was a pashtun but a wos pashtun. He certainly was a very gifted actor and there are not many of them. He was the best.
@OLDBOLLYWOODISGOLD Nagis, a fine actress but I guess she wasted her young life chasing a clown. She acted with Dilip in some movies such as Andaz, Mela etc but they did not click. Dilip only clicked with kamini Kaushal and Madhubala. I am sure kamini was in love with her when they filmed Shabnam-one can see it when she sings "mera dil tarhpa key kahan chala" but she was married. He walked away from Madu becuase he was not man enough, and perhaps his retaliatory naturetook the best of him.

A loving and caring man. He was both. I do not know if dilip was loving and caring man. Heis a superb actor but besides that I do not know. As a pukhtun we have peculiar traits. Chivalrous, hospitable, daring but very emotional. Is Dilip like that? Perhaps. I am sure Nargis would not have been happy with DK.

@OLDBOLLYWOODISGOLD I do not think religion was a factor. Raj's sister, mother of Salma Agha, became a muslim and she was not ostracized by the Kapoor family. I do agree with you that Nargis and raj loved each other. Vyjayantimala is another topic. Mala was a superb dancer but she lacked that sensuality. She was OK but not that like Vaheeda Rahman. Vaheeda had grace, femininity, attraction, beauty. Guru Dutt left his and died for her. But in my own book Shyama was Number 1. Nanda was great also.

Madhu was stricken and you could see she was prancing like a teenager, which she was at that time. I could see the buterflies in her heart. Coming to Kapoors, they lived about 15 miles from the family of Dilip. Dilip family lived in Peshawar and the Kapoors lived in Bada Bher near Peshawar. Their house is still there. @Bajaury madhubala was totally enchanted. did you know that dilip sahab came to each set she was working on and when she saw him? after seeing him she really acted better. and dilip still loves her, even today. when he saw the colourized version of mughal-e-azam he started crying and said that he wants god to bring all those wonderful people back to him. i was glad to hear raj kapoor and dilip kumar were best friends, just like dev anand and guru dutt. dilip said that he misses raj.

You can not put VMala in the same class as Nagis or Meena Kumari. She may be good actress but these two are really great actresses. Besides VMala is not that sensual. @snfab1 I am not so informed about actors and actresses but I followed I was interested in the kapoor family. After all they left Peshawar where I lived. Thier house is still there. I am glad Nargis was in love with Raj. That was a genuine love affair. Unforunately neither he nor Dilip married their true loves. I love the kapoor family because they are pukhtuns, who orginally came from Qandahar. Whatever, the blood in the viens of Salma Agha has roots in Shri Prithvi Raj. Good for her.

@rahman21244 its possible.attaullah was always fond of money. he wouldve done everything for that. madhubala was gone crazy after dk left her. she wanted to be married, only to show dilip sahab that she doesnt need him. bharat bhushan, pradeep kumar and kishore kumar proposed to her and she asked nargis, who to marry. nargis said that bharat would be the best for her but madhu wanted kishore. maybe because of his last name. and i think she didnt really trust nargis because of her failed romance.

@rahman212294617 yes, thats really true! thats what madhubalas sister said...she always accuses kishore to be that bad factor that let madhubala die sad, lonely and without seeing the man she loved. he only married her for the sake of his career. she was his figurehead! after the wedding he bought a bungalow and imprisoned her there with a servant and a nurse...he visited her, if she was lucky, one time per month. and when he visited her, he only shouted at her because she watched dilip movies.

I guess in our lifetime this is where another Laila-Majnoon legend was born. Had they married it would have been another bollywood/hollywood union like Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor. Just by reading all comments about Dilip and Madhubala reveals the prtective instincts of men. They all felt that Dilip should have protected this vulnerable and sweat woman. He should have stepped to the plate and recued her from her stupid father and that no-goodman Kishore Kumar. I feel the same way. I wish I could have rescued her. That makes him a serial drowner. Dev was pretty, not handsome. Raj Kapoor was married and Nargis was stupid. Dilip kumar, being a pashtun having a retaliatory nature kind of got in the way. He was a pashtun but a wos pashtun. He certainly was a very gifted actor and there are not many of them. He was the best.

Dilip only clicked with kamini Kaushal and Madhubala. I am sure kamini was in love with her when they filmed Shabnam-one can see it when she sings "mera dil tarhpa key kahan chala" but she was married. He walked away from Madu becuase he was not man enough, and perhaps his retaliatory naturetook the best of him.

@OLDBOLLYWOODISGOLD I am not sure. Sunil Dutt is a great gentleman and I feel he was the right person for Nargis. He was tall and handsome and above all he loved Nargis. What a woman wants? A loving and caring man. He was both. I do not know if dilip was loving and caring man. Heis a superb actor but besides that I do not know. As a pukhtun we have peculiar traits. Chivalrous, hospitable, daring but very emotional. Is Dilip like that? Perhaps. I am sure Nargis would not have been happy with DK.

Dilip and Premnath were close also but Madhu jumped from Premnath to Dilip becuase he was a better catch. Raj should have married her. I am sure his wife would have given consent but he was playing with her. He was always ruff with Nargis and she liked it.

@OLDBOLLYWOODISGOLD I do not think religion was a factor. Raj's sister, mother of Salma Agha, became a muslim and she was not ostracized by the Kapoor family. I do agree with you that Nargis and raj loved each other. Vyjayantimala is another topic. Mala was a superb dancer but she lacked that sensuality. She was OK but not that like Vaheeda Rahman. Vaheeda had grace, femininity, attraction, beauty. Guru Dutt left his and died for her. But in my own book Shyama was Number 1. Nanda was great also.

Madhu was stricken and you could see she was prancing like a teenager, which she was at that time. I could see the buterflies in her heart. Coming to Kapoors, they lived about 15 miles from the family of Dilip. Dilip family lived in Peshawar and the Kapoors lived in Bada Bher near Peshawar. Their house is still there. @Bajaury madhubala was totally enchanted. did you know that dilip sahab came to each set she was working on and when she saw him? after seeing him she really acted better. and dilip still loves her, even today. when he saw the colourized version of mughal-e-azam he started crying and said that he wants god to bring all those wonderful people back to him. i was glad to hear raj kapoor and dilip kumar were best friends, just like dev anand and guru dutt. dilip said that he misses raj.

You can not put VMala in the same class as Nagis or Meena Kumari. She may be good actress but these two are really great actresses. Besides VMala is not that sensual. I am glad Nargis was in love with Raj. That was a genuine love affair. Unforunately neither he nor Dilip married their true loves. @rahman21244 its possible.attaullah was always fond of money. he wouldve done everything for that. madhubala was gone crazy after dk left her. she wanted to be married, only to show dilip sahab that she doesnt need him. bharat bhushan, pradeep kumar and kishore kumar proposed to her and she asked nargis, who to marry. nargis said that bharat would be the best for her but madhu wanted kishore. maybe because of his last name. and i think she didnt really trust nargis because of her failed romance.

@rahman212294617 yes, thats really true! thats what madhubalas sister said...she always accuses kishore to be that bad factor that let madhubala die sad, lonely and without seeing the man she loved. he only married her for the sake of his career. she was his figurehead! after the wedding he bought a bungalow and imprisoned her there with a servant and a nurse...he visited her, if she was lucky, one time per month. and when he visited her, he only shouted at her because she watched dilip movies.

Dilip Kumar was rightly entitled as 'Adakar-e-Azam' by the Indian Government. He is really the greatest and the best actor of the world and no mother will ever give birth to a child like him. No actor will ever reach near him. He will remain immortal. Madhubala also was the most beautiful and the best actress of the world. Though she has passed away but still remains immortal and no other female actress will ever reach near her.

Madhu and yusuf khan (both pathans0 were deeply in love.and theirlove was on epic in those days. madhu father ataullah khan didint like that. and dilip maried saira banu.
madhu/silip other movies SANGDIL/AMAR were graet hits.

This duet song is marvellous indeed ----and the whole movie scene, along with the power of words /music , makes it all thoroughly romantic. I don't think that I have ever seen such a sperb romantic scene on the screen before. This is only for 5 to 6 minutes ----but these 5 to 6 minutes evoke intense romantic thrill.
Romantic moments in life are so thrilling & beautiful-------- but, unfortunately ,are usually short-lived-------- BUT--- these moments are real & marvellous indeed.
