  • OK, a Kramer...

  • On a Fender?? Why not a Les Paul??

  • @jb5365 where the fucks a fender?

  • @49Shortvid What do YOU think he`s playing? and then there`s the bass...

  • @49Shortvid If it was up your ass, you`d know...

  • welcome to my favs thank you awsome

  • Les paul, como dijo Eddie Van halen: Gracias por ti, sin ti nada de la musica seria lo que es ahora.

  • Hands down one of the coolest moments ever

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that Tony Levin on the bass? :D

  • Great video!Two all-time heros.

  • Ahhhhhh Cathedrals!!!!

  • Love this! :D

  • 5:35 Eddie shows that jerk how to do it!

  • If it weren't for that meddling keytar player this might be the best video on youtube...

  • ..and still my favorite "Eddie" video...love Eddie and Les Paul too!! This video makes me smile..thanks for posting!! Love it!! ♥

  • I like the other video of this more, search eddie van halen shreds

  • 1 person is just heartless

  • the signature ending sound around 6:06 gets me ever time.

    just amazing!

  • I used to not be able to tell in his voice he was European, but now i can easily hear it.

  • One of his best videos 8)

  • Jan Hammer and Tony Levin? on synth and bass ?... awesomes....

  • Just beautiful..............EVH showing his love and respect for Mr. Les Paul

  • SMOKIN'!!! Good to see the respect for Mr Les Paul. Two game changers for sure.

  • Voldemort playing the bass?

  • I'd kill for that tone

  • EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE...

  • So Eddie comes out to a Les Paul tribute playing a Strat? Eddie...

  • @TrojansForgottenMan That is his famous 5150 Kramer !

  • You notice how Eddie is calm , cool, and collected , and performs FLAWLESSLY when hes in a room full of great musicians. Its when he deals with the business and us fans or " internet fuckers" that he starts to melt down. Hes a true musician, not a fame whore. We love ya Eddie !

  • @cobias your partly right, ok he's sober, and can actually speak which is maybe one of the first vids i've seen he could do this during this period of time. And that's also part of why he's not running around stage and acting all spazzed out liked a mad man.

  • @Sean2592 He's not sober here, If he were he wouldn't have come out cursing and kissing him over and over again...

  • @BrianMorrison71 well ya i see your point but at least he's able to walk, and speak pretty well for the most part. It's about as sober as your ever going to see him until 2007

  • Eddie Van Halen, the king of the world!

  • Hooooooleeeeyyyy shiiiiiitttttttt.

  • Is that George Costanza on the keytar? Guess what? "Can't stand ya!"

  • riggs

  • EVH> unique the one

  • 2 words: Brutal Awesomeness!!!

  • How come Adnoydall isnt up there instead of Eddie?? Wow, major mistake on les Paul's directing LOL......kidding, if Les Paul looks at you and says, Youve changed things in Rock n Roll guitar, thats paramount, Les Paul is God, and so is Eddie Van Halen..........Cheers

  • @Lucicsux Les Paul and Eddie together is a beautiful combination :) ..this is truly my favorite "Eddie" video for that reason, plus the fact that Eddie's playing is completely amazing!!....Les Paul and Eddie Van Halen are both my Guitar Heroes..absolutely..without doubt ♥....but, I only have one God... :)

  • @GottaLoveEddie there is only one god, when i refer to Eddie as God, i mean the ultimate guitar god. In no means or way, will I substitute EVH with the Lord.

  • @Lucicsux Right on..agreed! Cheers! :)

  • @GottaLoveEddie cheers to you

  • Eddie and tony levin! YES

  • I love this!

Ahhh...Eddie Van Halen...where can I get one of THOSE? ...;D

  • Comment removed

  • If my son tells me he wants to play the keytar when he grows up, I'm gonna cut his fucking arms off.

  • In the begining god creaded the earth and edward van halen!

  • I hate them damn keytars!!!

  • man ... he turned the hot techer into something good......

    This sound batter.... bluesy.... :D

  • @JOSHSKORN no, but it's a les Paul tribute concert not a Gibson concert.

  • Eddddieeeee! ♥

  • Is he even playing a Gibson guitar?

  • Hard to believe this was 23 years ago. Ed looked great meaning if he was on drugs it didn't show. The introduction and his playing alone would have been perfect, the keys and drums Sucked...

  • the keyboard guitar ruined this emprovision of hot for teacher.

  • 3:21-3:26 sounds a little like satch boogie although this was first

  • Eddie Van Halen ! Muito fera na guitarra ! Uauu!

  • Voldermort on the bass aye

  • EVH, this was one of your top notch performances, rock on and r.i.p Les Paul! (:

  • Les Paul got us all started in the direction,,, EVH & friends just made it better!!

  • Eddie is the best

  • Ps. I shit myself listening to this.

  • So cool, Eddie just tearing it up and Les Paul, one of the greatest right in the front row whatching what the guitar has turned into, CATHEDRAL!!!

  • whats the intro part called?

  • @christianrod97 Cathedral off Diver Down

  • @christianrod97 E-D-D-I-E.

  • sorry i didnt put attention to my girlfriend while watching the video and she disliked the video

  • Yeah perfect tone of Eddie at the time he really peaked. I think he got bored at that point and so he went and f-cked with it.

  • KING OG KING::

  • You lost me at the keytar guy.

  • 1 persons gf was bitchen at them while watching this video

  • It is sad to see such awesome talent wasted! All for more booze?????

  • Who thought that the Key-tar was the right choice for this version? That person should be shot... along with the key-tar player.

  • Thank you for that... Best ever sound of Eddie at the right moment. He is the Master...

  • eddie looks just like mel gibson here

  • Les Paul tribute. It's about GUITARS! As great as Jan Hammer is, not the time or place for him to solo. Shoulda been all Eddy

  • Wow! he messed up a LOT! AND I LOVE IT HAHAHA.

I love seein him so raw like this :) Probably one of my favorite live performances of his :)

  • Tony, Jan and Eddie should have done a side-project together. Billy Cobham on drums maybe? That would have been the shit!

  • The way Ed shows his respect and the way Les says that he'd like to see what Ed can do, just amazing because Les is such Legend and Ed's going to make everyone shit their pants!

  • Tony Levin. FUCK YEAH!

  • Eddie is drunk off his ass here...

  • @dracsspago He never drank heavily on stage until after his separation. He'd have a couple drinks because he has terrible stage fright. If you want to see embarrassing "drunk off his ass", look at clips from 2004 tour or some of the 2007 tour when he relapsed.

  • inspiring!

  • @BeatleStone ya never know

kiss is well in their 60's and still putting out music and touring

most of van halen is only in their 50's its still old but if kiss can do it van halen sure as hell can!

  • yo did you see right in the beginning eddie holds down the tremelo and hits,i think, the spring in the back ??? could someone let me know what he does there or better yet post a vid showing me how to do that. thanx

  • OUR SONG do you agree?

  • i had the privledge of meeting les paul hes a pretty funny guy

  • Y el Eddie Van Halen con Les Paul nombre je je mas Puts..

  • Yes it is Jan on keyboards. I am trying to figure out who is the drummer? Tony is flat kicking ass on that bass. The whole thing sounds wonderful!

  • That guitar / keyboard thing is the gayest instrument ever !!!!!

  • @mscandle LMAO. I was just thinking that, i look down at the comments and see yours. It is too!!!

  • @mscandle Not as gay as multiple exclamation marks!

  • @mscandle the mighty keytar!

  • @mscandle It's called the gaytar.

  • @mscandle and the dude playing it is getting wayyyy to into it, and looks like the gayest person ever!!!!

  • ¡WOW TONY LEVIN ON BASS!!

  • did eddie just kiss Les

    paul?............:/

  • @JoYiSgUiTaR YEA HE DID SO WHAT?

  • it's stunning to see this and think he only died in 09.

i LOVE eddie, but to think that guy invented the thing. since then we've had jimi and so many others it's impossible to name them. and now, people don't think music is music without an electric guitar involved.

    amazing.

les and jimi will be smiling down on us from some far away plane as pure, raw anger and joy sing from bedrooms and sore fingers

  • I want a black box too!!

  • That keyboard player is ruining everyones life, he is doing it wrong!

  • @landers1984, How come?

  • I can't believe the keyboard dork showed up Eddie.

  • @Clefty09 I think the keyboard player is Jan Hammer.

  • Folks, Eddie wasn't sober. He could just handle his shit then.

  • if that's sober , get me a drink !

  • sober eddie ruled

  • Sober eddie is good eddie.

  • give me a min i got to blow the smoke out of the room

  • i though van halen would still play a part of eruption & the solo of jump but oh well that was still awesome

    R.I.P. Les Paul

  • Is that guy @ 4:14 for real? LOL

  • eddie rules

  • Eddie's loaded. But at least he could still rip while loaded back in the day.

  • "Hey, how are you?" "Drunken my ass off, of course!"

  • Stick Levin? Didn't see him coming!

  • It is always a shame when anyone forgets that there is a "HISTORY" to all forms of music. To forget or not respect that is a shame! I love this video. It always reminds me of the $11.00 third row ticket for the 1984 concert that I watched. My Friend Kevin (R.I.P.) I miss you. Man it was a great Van Halen show. Lights out and then on! David hits the splits in mid air, bombs explode and Mr. Van Halen is ripping up and down the neck of that guitar!:):):)! He's often copied!!!!!

  • It seems that Eddie is getting SO MUCH disrespect lately, especially from the younger crowd; regardless, he is a mother on guitar and can write a song or two to boot . . . if you can ever call anyone a "natural" Eddie, along with Jeff Beck, is one of them. Sure, there are THOUSANDS of more schooled shred-tastic players who know all the scales, modes, and theory, but players like Eddie, just have IT and that IT is what separates the greats from the ordinary "good" players.

  • @joelpaulsero lol younger crowd no new rock band or punk band has even came close to his work or much less the 70 and 80's guitarist. so they needa get over there shitty ass music. when i can meet someone that can play the guitar half as good as eddie did and still does they can tlk other wise they can shut the fuck up!! i havent heard any of the new bands rip it up like eddie or some of the old rockers did. other than john mayer the guitarist of today blow and none of it is original.

  • @VolGreg look up stone rider their guitarist is great

  • @joelpaulsero oh and just to let people know im 20.

  • @joelpaulsero The thing is Ed knows all the scales, modes, and theory. He didn't just pick up a guitar and start wailing. He practiced and practiced and practiced, hours upon hours.

  • @alscort93

My point is that he's not some GIT or Berkley schooled guitar player and still blazes! I didn't say he didn't know theory, but he's self-taught on guitar and not obsessed with all that shit..And, of course, he practiced A LOT... DUH! I'm not a fucking idiot; you're stating the obvious. AGAIN: my point is that Eddie focuses on songs, tones, and not what everyone else is doing. Further, when he solos, he's not like some shred clone thinking "now what mode fits here?" He uses his ears!

  • @joelpaulsero dude, chill the fuck out, I wasn't saying you were wrong. It's YouTube, not life. I was just adding to what you said. It's called conversation, one person makes a statement, another adds something to it or states his/her opinion, happens everyday. :D

  • @alscort93

"chill" :) What? YouTube's not life? Seriously. I just thought your initial response was a bit condescending. That's all. I was just attempting to praise Eddie in response to all of the criticism he's been receiving from guys/kids who think that if a player doesn't do 256th note sweeps that he sucks. There's a million of those guys and only one Ed . . . and I'd rather hear him over all of those clones.

  • @joelpaulsero I think Ed is one of the greatest of all time. I will never put down that man, he can do things with a worn out beat up guitar that I could never imagine.

  • @alscort93

Well. I agree. It was never my intention to put him (or you) down. Again, my intention was to praise him for his natural talent; something that no teacher or school can teach you. A guy can sweep arpeggios and eight-finger tap, but Ed is musical, unique, and most of all, a pioneer of modern rock guitar. And he can right damn good SONGS! Peace.

  • richie sambora s d best not eddie

  • NO matter where my mind goes I always love coming back to this.

  • ....man, back when vh came along in the 70s......we didnt even think....wow....

  • This has to be Eddie's pinnacle

  • i can highly recommend the EVH wound pickup from SD if you're after the shit your pants sound, run it into an early marshall and it's not a million miles off

  • @lexichronicle2 Is it the "78" model?

  • les pual is jealous

  • These dudes are totally absorbed with rhythm

  • Eddie wanted to do a project with Tony Levin after this giin a big way. Would have been awesome....might as well have kept Jan Hammer in the mix too. I totally think of Eddie as a fusion player anyway.

  • i like the effect he does in the beginning what is he doing just basically flickering the springs on the back of his guitar and hitting the strings past the nut both with the whammy bar than what does he do?

  • @motleycrue24 Thats about it.....some delay and a alot of chorus.

  • @hojorocks3 actually theres no chorus, just good old delay :P and hammer ons and some volume knob play

  • @ponlm I used to have the best DigitalDelay and sold it.Dont use one anymore. The effects get ,lets say 'not too challenging'.When you dont even need a pick to hit a note its boring. Not taking anything away from Eddie ,but is it just me or doesnt it look like hes already played these solos and leads over and over again.Eddie even looks like hes half bored.

  • @motleycrue24 theres alot more to it than you think

  • @42lynchmob it was more of a question

  • Aside from Les Paul himself, Tony Levin was the most amazing creature up there. Tony Levin is God. And then some.

  • Nice going back to a time when Ed wasn't a hung up prick.

  • Ok? He's the best!

  • he is ok at this... definitively needs not to look for a different job..

  • Eddie's chopping it up like an ice machine...... not sure what that means but it's good............. Eddie's right Les was awesome a total inventor. I love my Honeyburst Les Paul Classic with 498/490 set added. its an amazing sounding guitar, just like Les strived for. RIP.

  • Even Les Paul is left speech less. . . Eddie was is and always will be the biggest! ! !

  • RIP Les Paul Never Forget

  • RIP Les Paul.

You gave the ability to bad musicians to record their garbage.

Your only fault my friend...but it really isn't your fault!

God Bless your gifts to all of us.

I think of you whenever I listen to great music and fine instruments!

  • Maybe they got scared to ask the drummer what his name is after the bass player threw some people across the room. Edward Vanhalen, Jan Hammer and who are the other two very talented people?

  • @DOGLUV007 Bass player was Tony Levin. No clue who the drummer was.

  • @bootysurgeon Maybe they were scared to ask the drummer what his name is????

  • it doesnt even sound like a guitar before cathedral

  • damn @ 4:10 i had no idea constanza could play a keytar like that.

  • Tony so kicks the bass in the ass........MusicMan........best damn basses out there.

  • @caulinrocker his frakenstein wasn't a fender it was a mix between a charvel body and a fender neck which was replaced by a kramer neck. kramer made a signature model for him. Kramers still are available but they are sold by Gibson

  • Fukkin' Mr. Levin OWNS the pocket like it's a bitch.

  • great observation!

  • Wow.....What can I say....

  • R.I.P. Les paul, you were a legend :(

  • @nuclear1250 He still IS a legend !

  • Tony Levin is hot shit.

  • is that tony levin?

  • Hot for teacher!!

  • keybord?... ah i believe you are referring to the keyboArd. and no, thats a keytar. look it up, faggot.

  • i saw eddie van halen and the great van halen on there 1978 and 1979 world toures and i have never been the same eddie van halen is the true guitar icon and van halen is one of the greatest alltime bands in history hands down!!!

  • Eddie is a God, I watched this show LIVE!

aint many who can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @leafsfourever what you are seeing here are the two biggest guitar icons in rock history period! even 200 hundred years from now three names will always be mentioned in guitar playing period! edward van halen/jimi hendrix and les paul the three true and only guitar legends!!!

  • How hammered is Eddie?

    Itsa GODDAMN honour????

Wish I could play half as well(sober)

    Keytar is just plain WEAK

Just a typical 80's attempt to modernise

an already cool instrument.Thank God those days are gone(along with my youth)

    Les Paul RIP

  • @stratboy.. You do realize that that "keytar" is just a controller right? It doesn't actually make any sound. It's just the keys sending a signal to a synth modual. Yeah it sounds thin but they probably didnt want to over power eddie any more than he already was and drown him out with a heavy keyboard sound.

    Just sayin.

  • still timeless today

  • R.I.P Les Paul

  • Les Paul can play pretty fast himself actually.

  • Indeed he could. That 90 year old sure as hell wasn't slowing down in his later years

  • @unknownkingdom you do realize hes dead right
