My theory on what happened? Optimus knew the only way to stop Unicron from destroying Earth was to sacrifice the matrix. With his collective knowledge of all the Primes, he probably knew that he would lose all of his memories of being a prime. That's why he entrusted Jack with the Key so they can get his memory back which I'm guessing is stored on Cybertron somewhere.

They're probably going to take at least half a season to find a way to bring Optimus' memories back. Heck, they might even wait until the end of the season to do it! I'm curious as to how they're actually going to bring them back, but I guess Vector Sigma will have something to do with it.

@hippogriffgirl Doubtful it'll last that long, it'll probably be resolved by the end of the season 2 premiere. Especially considering the fact these episodes are called Orion Pax Parts 1, 2, & 3. The show's called Transformers Prime so i seriously doubt they'd go half a season without Optimus. But We'll see I suppose.

In my opinion I really hope Optimus stays Orion Pax for at least the first parts like episodes 1-6 at the very least because for the creators to gain a wonderful opportunity like this to go totaly and admirably original making the plot to where it is, it'd be just a waste of time for Optimus to come back right away. Starscream is back! But let us hope he makes the right choice to redeem himself for the Autobots this time. I would think that under Meg's abusive leadership and every foolish choice he made in the past was enough to be done being everyone's punching bag. He says he's changed, but his ego hasn't, making his mental health questionable. The way I see it, ever since he lost his Air Commander rank back on Cybertron all he wanted was a clean reputation. My only hope is that he lives to be redeemed.
