I grew up in this park. My friends and I sat in the right field upper deck on Aug. 2, 1970 for Al Kaline Day. The Twins won both ends of a doubleheader that day; Killebrew homered twice. I was 16 years old at the time and, God, it was great! Northrup, Horton, Cash, Lolich, McClain, McAuliffe, etc. And, of course, the greatest right fielder ever. Kaline. Thanks, Tiger Stadium, for the memories.
This is fucking pathetic. If they wanna tear somthing down, get your Detroit asses downtown. Tear that fucking train station down. Nobody gives a fuck about it anyways. But you dont tear down a piece of memorable history, and not expect people to bitch and moan about it. Detroit sucks. Michigan sucks. This thing couldve been used for LOTS of things. Events, ball games, ect., but Detroit is too fucking lazy to keep any shit.
When I was a kid I used to go see Lou Whitaker, Kirk Gibson, Chet Lemon play ball, just to name a few. I like Comerica park. But this is sad. This is like watching my childhood being ripped down. A reminder to myself that I'm growing older and that time will never be revisited.
I grew up in Texas. My dad would take us to see maybe 3 Astros games a year. He would always pick Cincinnati Red games. They had Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Dave Concepcion, etc. I never ever saw us win a game. Two years ago when I went home on vacation. I saw my first Astros win vs Padres.
I now live in Michigan and go to Tiger games and Texas Ranger games on vacation.
It's all because of these stupid assholes that run the city and who've been running the city down the shit hole for years. If I had money like Bill Gates, I'd be the king of this city and run it too. The biggest idiot on the planet run this city. Glad to see Kwame gone. I miss this old place. It could of been preserved if Illitch wanted to pay the money. It would of been a lot of work but well worth it. My only beef with the old ballpark was there were a lot of blind spots.
Hard to watch. I can remember my dad taking me to a weekday afternoon game there when I was four years old and seeing Alan Trammel and Cecil Fielder. Comerica Park is no different from any of the other new ones but Tiger Stadium was a classic. All Detroit needs is another vast vacant lot on its west side or maybe the city has other plans like a jail or a low end strip mall. Nice going city council, you just killed one of the most beautiful parts of our city. RIP Tiger Stadium
I went to see what was left yesterday (26 June). It is sad that they will rush to tear down HISTORY when there are so many abandon, gutted, burned out, buildings in Detroit that should have priority in Demolition.
I bought two Tiger stadium seats for $290 two years ago. I made friends with one of the guards and was able to save some bricks and pieces of the walls. He gave me a coffee cup with about 20 ozs of dirt from the pitchers mound. He also gave me a clump of grass from the field.I am growing the grass in a planter. I plan on making some shadow boxes. with 8x10 Tiger Stadium photo. A piece of wall (water sealed and then poly seal to prevent deterioration) The dirt in 1oz Scientific glass vials

Historic landmark, tourist attraction, cornerstone for redevelopment, opportunitty for youth baseball, instead a vacant lot. Detroit is doomed!
