  • it say on the apple site it can only do 5200 but not 7200 on the 2011 macbook pro, im planning to do this but a bit afraid it will not work for the 7200?

  • O have the same MacBook And its Very lag . Yours was always that's fast or u notice some difference with the new hard drive?!

  • Thanks for this video. What kind of camera did you use to record this?

  • Awesome VId!

  • Nice Tutorial!

  • He sounds like Mr. Mackey from South Park.

  • PLEASE ANSWER DUDE can i put windows on external hardrive and hold option and boot off there?

  • @SilentHunter241

Yes you can. Just use bootcamp

  • Wats the difference between your kit and the hybrid ssd/hdd kit??

  • Does 750GB 7200RPM make a big enough difference for the money? I would use the MBP the same way you do. I might get a 750GB 5400RPM for my MBP, but I'm not sure if it is worth the money. BTW Great reviews!

  • Thanks alot for doing this!!

  • Really nice videos you have there, subscribed.

  • thanx a lot for the great HOW TO.

  • Is the stock HD RPM 2011 MBP is fast I mean does it lag or something? 'cause im gonna buy one..

  • hey bro what's that web site you got your stuff from? u mentioned it but i didnt catch it, can u please tell me....

  • Nice vid man. I don't work with macs too much but I do have friends that need my assistance with it. Great video very informative and I will try that carbon copy cloner.

  • Wow... It is really easy. Can I do that cloning with windows OS? I meant using that software to clone my win 7 to new hdd....

  • @mohsin04 I think that the Carbon Copy Cloner app only works on Macs. Don't know of any windows alternative.

  • @TheMexicanNerd I think he means if he has bootcamp or parallels...

  • @mohsin04 There is one but no GUI like this one. I use Clonezilla, it is good works but finicky upon the size of the drive. I put a larger drive in my pc and cloned it from external but I had to resize the new Hard drive to the original one. you can use g-parted but I had problems with it. I used another but I forgot which one. They were all free as well. Clonezilla is free as well as g-parted.

  • Can u please answer me ASAP! Does the 750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive make the MBP faster? thanx!

  • @The8Jays Yea it makes the MBP a little faster. Not a lot faster but it's enough that I noticed a small difference.

  • nal hard drive after u cloned it to the new hard drive so you have a clear external drive to use?

  • @JujuDowWow Yea I'm using my old hard drive as an extra external drive.

  • @TheMexicanNerd okay thanks

  • Question. Can you erase all the data on ur old harddrive that is now your extre

  • Question. Why'd you choose to do the carbon copy clone after the HD swap, versus what OWC recommended, to clone then swap? Is there an advantage either way?

  • @bornslippy123 That's what I was going to do at first but I would've had to put the new drive into the external enclosure then take it back out and put it into the MacBook. I decided to skip that step so that I didn't have to keep messing with the enclosure.

  • Notice any noise or vibration with the 7200 at all and any issues with it?

  • @gen2da I don't notice any issues with it at all. No extra noise or vibrations. Pretty close to how it was when I had the stock hard drive.

  • Awesome video dude!! Simple and to the point - keep it up! :)

  • @yohan28 Thanks man

  • thank you for your video man, Some moron told me that my 2011 macbook pro takes a special hard drive propertary to apple your video proves this moron wrong it's a regular SATA connecter

  • @djmatics36 Haha im glad I could help you out with that moron.

  • thats how u do it on 17 inch 2011 edition? great video man

  • @MrBazzzzinga Yea it should be the same thing.

  • @TheMexicanNerd thnx

  • simple great video... :D

  • @4rosan Thank you!

  • thank you for the video! it really helped me! i put in a 2tb hard drive! also i was wondering where can i get that enclosure?

  • @xezar94 Thanks. You might be able to find the enclosure at macsales dot com

  • I love you man!! Thanks for the link great deal at the website!:)

  • @tzeheng67 Thanks man. Love you too. I appreciate the nice comment.

  • Hay awesome video, a few questions, do I need to partition the new internal drive or could I just run carbon copy without partitioning and naming it? Second question is silly but I'm paranoid and cant get a straight answer for what ever reason, Macbook pro hard drives are 2.5 inch drives right? any help would be great thanks!

  • @thatguy5557123 Don't think you need to partition, I just did it to be safe. Yeah the MBP does use a 2.5 inch hard drive. Thanks for the comment.

  • Hi Guys, Which hard disk from MacSales.com do you recommend? Hitachi bundle vs SeaGate bundle? In terms of performance and reliability? and why?

  • can you just put the new harddrive into the enclosure and plug it into the macbook via usb instead of opening up the macbook. so you can use it as an external harddrive also?

  • Oh and thanks

  • Awesome tutorial, I shouldn't have bought the extra hard drive of memory but thank u, I'll keep this vid in my favs should I need to upgrade from 500GB

  • @TheMexicanNerd Cool vid, it helped me a lot. I will buy in this hardrive in a few days.

  • @pdog67 Im glad it helped you out man.

  • oh wow poor description i was expecting a generic replacement hdd video. I got a video that was a lot better

  • @ghostuwi Thanks! :)

  • excellent video dude. very informative. btw u will only have to format the new hard drive if you buy from other websites such as newegg or tiger direct.

  • @TheNinjaNaren Thanks man I appreciate it.

  • Great video! Do you have the 2.3 or 2.7ghz processor? I have a 2.3 with 8gb ram and I work with a lot of video/audio. I was wanting to upgrade to a 7200rpm but I have read places that the 7200rpm isn't quite compatible with lion, something about the drive constantly spinning, or battery draining faster. Have you found that the battery does drain fast? Also, I've been looking at a Hitachi Travelstar 500GB HTS725050A9A364 7200rpm 16mb cache, any thoughts? Thanks!

  • When does the new video comes?

  • Good work. Thanks for quick reply

  • @LunatekMusic Thanks! Glad it helped you out.

  • hi, i was checking other 750 gb 7200 rpm hard drives being sold on macsales - hitachi and western digital and seagate of course. which one is the best one? i have been checking out reviews for seagate and i found some vibration, heating issues and it consumes more battery power. can someone tell me which one is the best one? all three all three on macsales.com

  • @param84me I haven't had any issues with my seagate. No vibrations or over heating. I haven't put too much attention to the power consumption but it feels like its still about the same.

  • does your mac need now more battery with the faster hd?

  • Comment removed

  • hey i have done this with a 2009 unibody macbook... OSX leopard no problem... wondering if i can clone and replace my HDD with LION... i had a code to download the upgrade to Lion free but i know if i do this and I'm not able to get it right i can't have lion again unless i purchase it.... did u did it with lion or leopard?

  • @gsus787 lol i just finished watching it and u have leopard... anyway u know if this method its ok to do with lion??

  • @gsus787 Yea it should work fine with lion. Carbon Copy Cloner is compatible with lion.

  • @TheMexicanNerd just did it... no problems whatsoever! thax for your vids bro, i purchased the package u listed here lol and 8GB RAM....... and also the incase hardshell... no regrets! thanx

  • What should i get macbook pro or air

  • if you are running bootcamp does it copy windows 7? the reason i am asking is because id prefer it to only copy the mac os because i want to repartition it to give windows 7 more space

  • @raenanguadezable Sorry but I don't know. Thats a real good question. I think that it will still copy over windows 7.

  • I never thought about cloning the hard drive, this makes my decision to switch to an ssd when i get my laptop easy, thanks.

  • @Quenton20 No problem! Thanks for the nice comment.

  • since the time you purchased, the difference between 1TB DIY Upgrade Bundle (But has lower 8MB cache) vs the 750GB DIY Upgrade Bundle (Larger 16MB cache) is only $20. Would you purchase the larger drive or smaller drive since it has more cache. Please let me know. Thx buddy!

  • @TheCalisurfer112 When I bought this drive I wanted to get the highest amount of space I could get with 7200rpm. So I would probably go for whatever drive had the fastest speed.

  • Would it be better if I cloned the 750 GB hard drive first before installing it in the MBP or do I have to do it the same as the video?

  • @theaudiodoctor Cloning it first should work fine.

  • Great video! I plan to do the same thing with my MBP. Has the Seagate drive performed well? Have you had any crashes yet? Have you noticed any improvement in speed over the standard Hitachi drive? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • @THE916AZN No crashes of any kind. Still working perfectly. I do feel it performing a little bit faster than it did before.

  • where did you buy the casing/closure for your external hitachi hard drive?

  • @param84me It came in the bundle that I bought from macsales . com. Its a hard drive, hard drive enclosure, and some tools.

  • Btw, the below questions are interesting. Hope I'll answer them soon

  • Great vids bro. Keep them coming!

  • @ziyaeen Thanks man.

  • will this void the warranty?

  • @Nanotijerina no, you can replace the hard drive and/or ram without voiding it, but don't touch the battery, cpu, gpu etc.

  • @Roflbrowser Thanks for helping out

  • Oh and I really like your desktop wallpapers in your videos. Where do you get them from?

  • @Abelmisi I get them from Wallbase . cc and interfacelift . com

  • Have you noticed the drive being noisier due to it being 7200RPM not 5400RPM?

  • @Abelmisi No not really. I feel it spinning a little faster when I have it on my lap but its not that big of a difference.

  • Congratulations for your review.

I want to ask if you feel vibration or noise after replacing the hard drive 7200rpm.

The Macbook pro is fine? it has anomalies or defects?

    it is 100% compatible?

    thanks

  • @Simphack No problems. Im 100% happy with it. No noise, no vibration, no defects.

  • thx 4 the wallpaper ;D

  • @thovan1996 Your welcome

  • This video helps out alot, and you have amazing camera the picture is perfect!

  • @FiveForApple Thanks! Im happy you liked it.

  • @TheMexicanNerd great video! Did you wipe your old hard drive? And did you have to re-format it?

  • I have WD7500BPKT. Its brand new and sealed. Would it work inside my MBP Without any issues??? ItIs same model as yours. Do i need seagate momentus or this wd one would work.? And BTW nice video. I am new to mac and thnks for a detailed video...

  • @ps230793 I think it should work fine. Im not 100% sure but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Im glad you liked the video. I try to make them as detailed as possible.

  • Hey TheMexicanNerd, I will buy a new HDD for me, but which want you think is better? 1. WD 750GB 7200RPM or 2. OWC 240GB SSD ? plz respond!

  • @MrMegatron2002 It depends on if you need a lot of space. I do a lot of video editing so I need a lot of space. Thats why I got the 750GB. But if I didn't need much space I would get the SSD.

  • @TheMexicanNerd That's a big help to me then. As I need a lot of space for video editing/graphic design. Thanks mate. Subscribed XD

  • @TheMexicanNerd oh, thank you. So i guess i have to buy a 500GB is best for me, games!

  • Thanks. And is a 750GB 7500RPM worth it or would it be that much better to spend a bot more on a Solid State Drive? Thanks

  • @evilbobsta My plan is to get a Data Doubler so that I could have two hard drives in my MBP. A 120GB SSD and this 750GB HDD. If I didn't do so much video editing I would just get a SSD. I need a lot of space for all of my videos and bigger SSD would be too expensive for me.

  • @TheMexicanNerd Ok man. Thanks. How much is the Data Doubler roughly? cheers XD

  • @TheMexicanNerd wait, so basically you installed the 750 GB 7200rpm drive in your mac book pro 13 inch and it works fine? im keeping on reading about how the hard drive works hardder and make noise,. which i avoid..

which hard drive do you recommend? I am a video editor and i do alot of music production. I already maxed out on my RAm. also would that make your inside of mac book pro hot? DId you install more fans cooling system? I am just worried about over heating my mac. let me know

  • @ TheMexicanNerd r u happy with the 13 inch or do u think a 15 would have been better

  • @3DSNGP I'm happy with the 13 inch. I think I might get a 15" next year so that I could have a better graphics card for videos editing. That way I could try out some more powerful editing programs. I'm not sure though. I might stick with the 13"

  • do you need to reinstall mac osx and ilife

  • @WallEandEveRock The way a I did it I never had to reinstall anything. It just cloned the hard drive over and it worked fine.

  • Do you notice any change in speed like is it faster

  • @djpzayne It is a little faster now. Slightly faster boot up and the apps launch a little faster.

  • great how-to vid eddie! definitely helped me out, easier process than I thought. I've been wanting to upgrade my hdd too, 250GB is not enough. great vid once again.

  • @longisland216 Thanks. I thought it was a good bundle that would give people a new HDD and a easy way to transfer data over. I'm glad you liked it.

  • does installing the hard drive taunt the warranty

  • @WallEandEveRock Installing the hard drive doesn't void the warranty but if you break something in the laptop while you have it opened up then fixing it will not be covered by warranty. So you have to be careful not to break anything. Remember to always discharge yourself of any static by touching something metal.

  • Hey I got a WD 500GB 7200rpm drive and it makes a lot of vibrations. How about you?

  • @TheGuoyuqiao9 Nope. It feels the same as my original Hard Drive.

  • update new your 750 HD 7,200 rpm helpful faster?

  • @racefan1976 Yea it does feel a little faster.

  • NICE VIDEO JUAT ORDERED 1

  • @sMoKeNmOe Cool man. It's a great bundle.

  • llink to wallpaper please? lol

  • @randomrazr I just put the link in the description ;)

  • Did you send the iPod shuffle? I saw it under your monitor?

  • @DannyC440 The guy that won the iPod shuffle just contacted me yesterday so I'm going to send it out to him after this weekend.

  • Man Mexican Nerd, I love this! I bought the same laptop you have but I had apple upgrade it to 500 Gb hard drive. Can I do exactly the same thing you did there? Great videos man! Ps, does that wallpaper you have on your macbook come with it? If not, where did you get it?

  • @Empanadasycervezas Yea you can do the same thing I did to upgrade your hard drive. I put links down in the video description so you can use the same bundle I did. And I also put the link to my wallpaper in the description. I'm glad you liked the video.

  • Couldn't u just use Time Machine to restore it to your new HDD?

  • @ej6060 Probably, I'm not sure. I never really use time machine so I don't know about everything that it can do. I knew that Carbon Copy Cloner was free and it cloned hard drives so that's what I used.

  • So, are you gonna delete all the stuff on the 300G and use it later if you need to?

  • @erickjocoteco Yea I think I'm going to everything on it and use it just to save my videos onto it.

  • Stick with the Mac stuff it's cool and everyone else is obsessed with phones.

  • @shipsimulatorfreak In the future I'm going to try to do a even balance of Mac videos and iPhone videos. That and some other stuff people are requesting. Like room tours, camera equipment...etc.

  • Sup man! Great video! When I got my new mbp, i got the SSD. I only got the 128 gig because i it's so damn expensive. I figured, "i'll just get an external hd." I am now wishing I wasn't being super cheap and wish I had gotten something more. I have no space on my ssd. I have to keep deleting things. It sucks, but my mbp is super fast!

  • @joemaijinni What's up man. I trying replying to you on that last comment you left me but I kept getting a error message. I thought you might have deleted your channel or something. I hope this message gets to you.

I plan on getting a SSD and a data doubler. That means I'll lose my optical drive but I'll have to internal hard drives. Do you think you would like to try something like that or do you use your CD drive too much to give it up?

  • @TheMexicanNerd lol yeah, youtube does that sometimes. No plans to shut down the channel anytime soon.

I don't think i'd do the data doubler just yet. Though everything is beginning to be available for download, like fcpx, and on external hard drives, I still use the cd drive sometimes. But that could be something for the future. I definitely need more space, and prefer it to be internal. If you do it, i'll be looking forward to watching it!

  • great video :-)

  • @HagenWonder Thanks! :)

  • Very good vid. i think that i will do the same thing as u =)) thanks !!!

  • @TONYwantsGAMEPLAYS Your welcome. It was a great bundle. Hard drive, enclosure, tools... everything I needed.

  • NIce video...very helpful....nicely done!!

  • @TheTECHNOLOGY101 Thank's I wanted to make sure I covered every step of the process.

  • Damn...somebody disliked this already

  • @SonOfATL Yea. It's ok though. It looks like a lot of people like it.

  • hey man nice video I wish you had a iMac and do the same for that since its harder. Im down to 12gb on my iMac lol...I don't want to pay Best Buy $50 to do it but I guess im going to since I don't have any other option, Good Stuff and im getting a Macbook Soon im about to sell my iPad2

  • @ThePapiGfunk Yea I think that paying someone else to do it is the best option. Looks pretty difficult. I would be afraid to break something. The MBP is sick. You'll like it.
