@griffinde well I'm not an expert or anything, but there are different accents for different parts of England. Sean Bean HAS a northern accent (he's from Yorkshire) but usually when I see him in movies he uses a southern English accent. But since Ned is from the north and they make such a big deal about that in the book, I'll bet he was excited to use his real accent. This is all pure conjecture.
One of the best novels i have ever read! The scope of things is fuckin epic. The red wedding scene is one off the most gripping things i have ever seen in a book. And now, finally, after waiting, waiting, waiting, and a bit more waiting the date has been set!

A great spanish article about the novels in un gran articulo spañol sobre los libros en fantasymundo articulos 1253 cancion hielo fuego george rr martin
@LeaveItToPsmith Sorry, you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but why do you think Sean Bean's accent is different? It sounds cool, I almost though it was Irish, or something (again, sorry, I'm from the US, so I don't recognize english accents). Do you think it's due to the fact that he is in the "North?" Thanks for any help here...
@LeaveItToPsmith English accents are incredibly diverse and varied. A few miles can make an immense difference but the Yorkshire accent is deemed rather base and rough because we drop many letters in our words. "Go to the house" would be more like Go T 'ouse. I agree with griffinde that to use the coarse language of the north is most fitting, and suits Sean far more than his poncy put on accents
My sweet summer child, what do you know about fear. Fear is for the long night, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep. Fear is for the winter..!! ( Old Nan )
pr much just had a nerdgasm, wonder how much HBO will downplay the more questionable aspects of sexuality from the novels. Seems they got the atmosphere right. Can't wait to see this!
I really, REALLY hope it's successful because if the entire series of books turned into a show it would likely be the single most epic thing ever.
I am SO looking forward to this. And I'm going to bawl my eyes out if it won't come out in East Europe. And someone had better upload this somewhere if it doesn't. Oh LORD I have SUCH high expectations for this!
So Boromir got killed by Lurz (not really) then was sent down a river, and a waterfall, then he magically recovered, found people and became their king or whatever...huh.
@Strondero What the fuck are you talking about? Moron, how the hell do you know this will be nerdy if you've never read the books or even saw the show? idiot...
I'm just starting the book in preparation for watching the series. Very good so far; much more gritty than Tolkien or Jordan, but similar in attention to detail.
not very graphically fair to the novel, but it's still may be one of the best series of these times. IF they give it the money they gave to Rome, and if they do a lot better than this joke Rome was.
I saw a behind the scenes of Sansa walking with Lady at her side, and the "direwolf" was basically normal wolf/dog size. Not huge at all. I was a bit disappointed.
@MrCryptys But those wolfs are just puppies in first book. I can't be sure, but I think Lady can't be more than a month old at that point. Pretty damn big puppy I think. Interesting to see how big they'll get in TV series.
I don't get why Sean Bean laughs after "Winter is coming." at the end. =\ It's the Starks that should worry about winter and in the books they are in no way being humorous when they say their words. But I guess it's a different take on it.
@barbwireou812 Yeah I wondered the same thing. I get the feeling the voice saying "winter is coming" is supposed to be more a narrator's voice, and you're not really supposed to think of it as Ned speaking, even though he is. More like the evil omniscient voice that knows evil is coming in the winter and they're all going to suffer.
those twats that compare The Game of Thrones with Xena had too much glue up their nose whilst surviving through their teens.. My guess they should have eased up on the weed as well..
Characters' conflictions, desires, etc., are conveyed in the books easily because we're directly told what the characters are thinking and how they feel about things. On a screen, some thoughts and feelings can be hinted at through mannerisms and interactions with others, but I doubt the viewers will completely grasp the internal struggles of original depthly characters like Tyrion. Even if they do a fantastic job, we who have read the book are bound to be a bit dissappointed.
@soulpiper Well I do believe in this book she's only 14 or so, and very inexperienced and such, which could explain her "look". Though that's if the look was intentional, which I doubt. I honestly think its just the hair... It doesn't look real. If they fixed that I think she'd look a lot better. And in all fairness this actress looks better than the one they had lined up earlier in my opinion.
@westernbaconburger Yeah, but he's a very good actor which is most important. Perhaps the studios thought that he would be easier to like if played by an actor who wasn't ugly like he was portrayed in the books.
@31M30 have to strongly disagree; Lena Heady (0:41) was a terrible casting choice for Cersei and almost couldn't look more unlike how she's described in the books. Wrong coloring, wrong build, and frankly not 'hot' enough for Cersei. Sean Bean on the other hand, was about exactly as I imagined Ned.
Oh yeah, and forgot to ask; when is there ever lesbian sex in A Game of Thrones? Don't ever remember Daenerys (if that is her) and some other girl getting it on...
I'm pretty sure it's her servant instructing her in the "ways of love" (which happens off-screen in the books) and I guess HBO decided to make it a very hands-on learning experience!
I love that people remember the more sordid events in fine detail. :P And correct you are, Dany's a-hole brother gave her a maid for that exact purpose.
@pararomanceful It is her servant and Daenerys that get it on, but it's not an instructional event. Daenerys is having trouble sleeping and tries to do it herself, but wakes her servant who then helps her so Daenerys can sleep.
It's actually a pretty substantial part of her character development...
@lickylah They most definatly mention the sex between Daenerys and her handmaiden. Also lets not forget Cerci in the last book. Add in the Renley rumors and its quite obvious that the books are chock full of homosexual activities.
@lickylah Like pararomanceful said, Daenerys was "instructed" by her servant. And in book 3, she did it for real with Irri I think (because she had no man to do it with).
@lickylah Daenerys serving girl "satisfies" her with her hand. I believe that is the scene filmed. Cersei and Lady Merryweather play around a little as well in Feast for Crows. So read all books and your questions shall be answered.
@lickylah It happened in Storm of Swords (third book) with Daenerys and one of her maids. Also happened in Feast for Crows (fourth book) with Cersei and some lord's wife.
@lickylah actually from that point when servant girl instructs her in the ways of lovemaking and Khal Drogo dies, every night she sleeps with one of the girls
@lickylah there are 2 lesbian sex scenes in the book series, both involving Daenerys and her hand maid, though not in the first book "A Game of Thrones" they do happen in the series of books.
Joffrey looks too young IMO and Tyrion looks too much like a hobbit and too little like a malformed dwarf, but other then that it looks great! Really liking Sean Bean as Ned Stark
The show looks like it will be pretty cool but I would much rather have the next book. Yes, George R.R. Martin is taking a while to write it but I would rather have a well written master piece than a hurried piece of crap for a book. Rome was not built in one day...
Looks epic!!! i know i will simply love this! on a crytical note....there´s something wrong with the way Danny is just staring on those scenes. Looks like they are getting the character a bit far too inocent and fragile. I know she was afraid at the start, i know she was sometimes defenseless and inocent. But she was never weak and she would never look like she cant event think what to do. She should look stuborn even through her tears.

marko83scg 1 year ago 3
@lickylah there are 2 lesbian sex scenes in the book series, both involving Daenerys and her hand maid, though not in the first book "A Game of Thrones" they do happen in the series of books.

Joffrey looks too young IMO and Tyrion looks too much like a hobbit and too little like a malformed dwarf, but other then that it looks great! Really liking Sean Bean as Ned Stark
lickylah 1 year ago
@lickylah Hah, a bit strange considering Peter Dinklage IS a malformed dwarf...?

@Staad1
He's a dwarf, but not at all malformed. If anything, he's quite handsome!

I just started reading this book yesterday, and I'm about 100 pages in and it seems there are already that many characters to keep track of! O_o

the pressure's on now GRRM! This only gives him like, what, 5 years until the series catches up? He'll never make it.

The show looks like it will be pretty cool but I would much rather have the next book. Yes, George R.R. Martin is taking a while to write it but I would rather have a well written master piece than a hurried piece of crap for a book. Rome was not built in one day...

I´m happy that Sean Bean is Ned Stark. It´s like seeing Boromir again, but in a better role. He´s a great actor.
I can´t stop watching.
