In the TA do you get to volunteer to travel or not??? i dont want to have to go anywhere i dont want to and i have too much at home that im not prepared to leave behind for 3 to 6 months.
i want to join the T.A but i dont got my residency yet.. i am a filipino.. studying in college now here in united kingdom.. can anyone tell me how to apply... bcz we're going to apply our residency next year...
@BLiinkz08 You need to get your ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain), requirements for this document is residency for at least 5 years and it costs around £750 but it means you can live/work in the UK without restrictions. I had the same problem because im Australian but thats all I had to do mate.

how do you know. i was in the TA before joining the royal marines and there was no bullies. i was in A company of the 4th batallion of the paracgute regiment (reserves) from 1996 to april 2000 (went for RMC training on may 2000) i went to Bosnia, Kosovo, Canada, Sierra leone and never once saw one bully even during the infamous Para P company course
should have just knocked their teeth out mate. i'd never put up with bullies. must have made you hate the army. bloody bastards doing that to you and probz fellow ta soldiers
@ditdatdot there was a lot of them a staff sergent, RSM and MOD POLICE WHAT CHANCE DID I HAVE. they smashed up my car and made me drive home 200 miles in a fucked up car then the police stopped me.
i dont know. mabye next august. well i joined the TA (4 Para) which has the 3rd hardest territorial army training. Got my wings and when i was 19 i got into trouble becuase i kept gambling, drinking and smoking drugs a lot. so they kicked me out. but kicking me out straightened me out and gave me determination to join the royal marines commandos in 2000 when i was 20. been 2 iraq twice. my sixth tour of afghanistan is coming soon.

I have recently passed selection for the regular army at pirbright with an A grade. I'm 17 and 2 months but since there's been a death in my family i want to join my local TA regiment instead 6 rifles, Bristol).
I really want to get a tour of Afghanistan and i want to know how long it takes to do that when in the TA.
Im like you mate, I have passed selection with the regualrs but with a C grade (for maths and english not fitness) and becuase i will be waiting around, october to get to proper training, my recruiter has offerd me the Ta in the mean time so at least il have a bit of experience other than no experience at all.
Ye. Well i've handed in all my documents to 6 rifles (TA) and they said hopefuly i wont have to re-do selection and they can get me started on my training soon. They're heading to Afghan in a year or so, hopefully i'll be with em :D.
aye good stuff, am goin to 6 scots just untill april so i doubt il be doing any afghan tour cause its only about 8 month away...Anyway good luck mate hope you enjoy it :D im buzzin for it lol !
@ditdatdot - lol 4 para is too far away for me, I've joined 6 rifles, A Coy as it's the closest reg. There is the Royal Marine reserve in Bristol which i though about but i went with 6 rifles, i just really want to get a tour of Afghan in. I'm hoping to get onto Op Herrick 15, Herrick 14 is starting in April so hopefully i'll be able to get on herrick 15.
well good for you. i joined up when their wasnt a war. ive been in Iraq twice (2003-2004)afghanistan five times since 2005. my sixth is coming up this year. its not pleasent. forget all that weepy hollywood war stories, the real thing is far worse.
@ditdatdot - 5 times! shiiiieeeet lol in the last 5 years you've spent two in afghan. Only probs with TA is that they're so slow, i've been training with them but they still havn't sorted my medical/selection (i have to re-do selection as the first time i did it was for the regs) which means i still don't have my uniform!! Herrick 14 is starting in April, do you have any idea when herrick 15 will start mate?
well for every regiment in the british army (I'm a royal marine by the way not a army soldier) they get deployed every 16 months. for example if you go to war in january, the next time you go will be may next year
well for every regiment in the british army (I'm a royal marine by the way not a army soldier) they get deployed every 16 months. for example if you go to war in january, the next time you go will be may next year
@ditdatdot - But surely Herrick 14 will still be going on, If herrick 14 starts April and goes for 6 months shouldn't herrick 15 start in October (when 14 has finished) or have i just got this all wrong lol :p (probably) aha
ive confused myself thinking of operaton herrick now. operation herric 12 deployed on march 2010. fuck me. i've been involved in herrick since 2005 and im fukiin confused about it. i usually just get shipped out, and dont really think of the operation. i'll send you a private message on my first experience in afghanistan.
@ditdatdot - haha, i was just wondering about dates becasue they say to complete all Infantry TA training takes best part of a year (usually more than that)and i ahvn't even started my training properly. We have a lot of lads from our company shipping out to Afghan for Herrick 14 in April. I was just wondering if there's any chance that i'd be able to get on Herrick 15 which i presume follows on strait after 14.
i want to join but it means shaving my head. would i beable to put my hair in a pony tail, I mean their i am when im older fightin for the country and the least they could do is let me keep my hair
I shouldn't really worry about it all... yeah you need your hair short but not like a skin head. The reason they need short hair in the army is because yes it can get in the way, and apparently back in World War 1 to stop lice spreading...
Acctually thats a good point...I suppose its because they more-a-less have longer hair than men... infact when you apply to the Army ask them wether youu can keep your long hair but put it into a pony tail? It might work... But i guess the generals are usually stressy about hair length, they like it smart... and reasonable :).
You cannot be deployed until you are over 18, you can volunteer to go. You want be called up unless you have been in the ta for 5 years or the worlds in a time of crisis.
you dont have to go if you dont want to. You have to join for a minimum service, but you are asked to volenteer into warzones, we got told if you dont wana go then you dont have to. But to be honest why join if you would never go? I know to get the skills etc, but i think if they give you all that you should give something back
You do have to go but are given 2 chances of appeal. Like i think it's only 500 at a time in Afghanistan right now, but they get attached to the regulars.
I'm thinking of joining the TA as an infantry soldier. Is it actually compulsory to go on tour or is it optional? By the way, i don't smoke weed anymore.
hi guys sry to both u i went to eastbourn air show on saturday like i said i would got a bit more info about the ta and being a muscian in the army i was talkign to this prviate who was in the house hold carvialy but he couldent awnsers all my questions, so my question is how long does the application take to jion the TA the moment i walk into a ta centre thank you and have a nice day
first interview, BARB test then basic skills test took me about 3 interviews but after that i couldent go so i would say about month or so cause my interviews were every tuesday
hi guy's i have a question i am 16 and will be 17 within a few days and i really want to join the TA as a musician but i have mild Autism can i jion ??? if some one could answers my question i would really aprricate it ok thank you and have a nice day.
ok well to be onset i wasent planing on joining until i was 18 want to get my driving linens and car first probley well go to eastbourn air show on Saturday to find out some more info but thank you for ure help i really aprricate it
not to sure yet i think it will be 102 field squadron 71 engineer regiment in Paisley to become pioneer, trying to get my fittness up before i go tho looking forward to it.
Im seriously considering to join th T.A. but concerned about being sent to another country at present, does this happen in the T.A. and do you have a choice to stay inthe U.K. or not?
lol people diss the TA but thay seem to forget if it didnt exist no one would join the army in any way because most people these days have outside commitments and thay cant be blamed for it... most people join the TA then decide to join the regulers later on ones thayve had a taste of army life... were all on the same side... you people who have so much as a problem about it seriously need to get your head looked at lmao :')
How can anyone criticise the work of the TA! we should be greatful for anyone doing something with their lives, that will help people one day, get a life smokerat 2007!!
TA infantry deploy on Herrick. Unfortunately lost a few reservists in 2008. Many more injured and others have received gallantry awards for their actions. Want to know more, research/google it.
Typical para attitude, some people fancy a crack at army life while being able to have a decent normal life too,and the TA are more essential now than they ever have been, you only have to look at how many of them are deployed!they'll never be "elite" & il agree some of them are misfits or plain thick, but im sure you'd rather these people volunteer to support the forces than having no back up at all.
you have to be as fit as a regular soldier as i was in the ta for 6 years. The entry requirements are the same as the regular army aswell so all i have to say is you need to be fit and determined to join the ta, i went to iraq and afganistan as an infantry soldier and i will say it is worth doing.
quick question i have joined the TA at 17 in trainning now on my weekend 7 soon. However i wont be 18 for CIC will that be a problem one of the majors said it could be is it true??? cheers
rite i have a few questions. what age do you have to be to join the TA?, and as more and more ppl are gettin paid off in uk thn will the army tighten up on who is getting in it? and last but not least are the tours as long as the regular ones? plz some1 get back to me :)
I'm in the TA, you have to be 17 to join and the army only take the fittest and toughest, regular soldiers take 6 month tours, part time soldiers go for a 1-2 week tour
i think that about answered it,,, if your under 18 you need parental consent. its 27 days minimum comminment /yr,compleating 8 MATT's a year and 15 day camp, tours are 6mths not including post op leave, most things are the same as in the regs but theres less benifits, dental,x factor pay, housing etc,but the advantages make up for it!! the TA is making up 35% of the regs now on tours..join n you'll find out. quite a few lads put in around 45-120 days/year
then why i always have it in my head you get shout at, higher ranks handle you bad, do so many push ups etc. these guys making me look a chicken.

mate running a mile and a half in 8 mins 35 secs is better than mine and im a royal marine. join the territorial paratrooper regiment (4 para)
ditdatdot 1 year ago
@ditdatdot - lol 4 para is too far away for me, I've joined 6 rifles, A Coy as it's the closest reg. There is the Royal Marine reserve in Bristol which i though about but i went with 6 rifles, i just really want to get a tour of Afghan in. I'm hoping to get onto Op Herrick 15, Herrick 14 is starting in April so hopefully i'll be able to get on herrick 15.
eddyboyjnr 1 year ago
@eddyboyjnr
well good for you. i joined up when their wasnt a war. ive been in Iraq twice (2003-2004)afghanistan five times since 2005. my sixth is coming up this year. its not pleasent. forget all that weepy hollywood war stories, the real thing is far worse.
ditdatdot 1 year ago
@ditdatdot - 5 times! shiiiieeeet lol in the last 5 years you've spent two in afghan. Only probs with TA is that they're so slow, i've been training with them but they still havn't sorted my medical/selection (i have to re-do selection as the first time i did it was for the regs) which means i still don't have my uniform!! Herrick 14 is starting in April, do you have any idea when herrick 15 will start mate?
eddyboyjnr 1 year ago
@eddyboyjnr
well for every regiment in the british army (I'm a royal marine by the way not a army soldier) they get deployed every 16 months. for example if you go to war in january, the next time you go will be may next year
early august for herrick 15.

@ditdatdot - But surely Herrick 14 will still be going on, If herrick 14 starts April and goes for 6 months shouldn't herrick 15 start in October (when 14 has finished) or have i just got this all wrong lol :p (probably) aha

@eddyboyjnr
ive confused myself thinking of operaton herrick now. operation herric 12 deployed on march 2010. fuck me. i've been involved in herrick since 2005 and im fukiin confused about it. i usually just get shipped out, and dont really think of the operation. i'll send you a private message on my first experience in afghanistan.
ditdatdot 1 year ago
@ditdatdot - haha, i was just wondering about dates becasue they say to complete all Infantry TA training takes best part of a year (usually more than that)and i ahvn't even started my training properly. We have a lot of lads from our company shipping out to Afghan for Herrick 14 in April. I was just wondering if there's any chance that i'd be able to get on Herrick 15 which i presume follows on strait after 14.

i want to join but it means shaving my head. would i beable to put my hair in a pony tail, I mean their i am when im older fightin for the country and the least they could do is let me keep my hair
lordoliz2 2 years ago
I shouldn't really worry about it all... yeah you need your hair short but not like a skin head. The reason they need short hair in the army is because yes it can get in the way, and apparently back in World War 1 to stop lice spreading...
BOT101st 2 years ago
no it is to look smart
eiknarftheninja 2 years ago
One of the most important reasons and I forgot o0... thanks for the reminder :D, can't look smart with long hair (on a bloke) in the army can ya xD)
BOT101st 2 years ago
why don't women need to do it then?
manupalace 2 years ago
Acctually thats a good point...I suppose its because they more-a-less have longer hair than men... infact when you apply to the Army ask them wether youu can keep your long hair but put it into a pony tail? It might work... But i guess the generals are usually stressy about hair length, they like it smart... and reasonable :).

am in the TA (infuntry) and i love evry minit of it :)
michaelisdude 2 years ago
Cna someone tell me, what is the chance of being deployeed? in the TA? Cna you voluturteer or are you forced?
unrealharry 2 years ago
You cannot be deployed until you are over 18, you can volunteer to go. You want be called up unless you have been in the ta for 5 years or the worlds in a time of crisis.
chikychowlee 2 years ago
you dont have to go if you dont want to. You have to join for a minimum service, but you are asked to volenteer into warzones, we got told if you dont wana go then you dont have to. But to be honest why join if you would never go? I know to get the skills etc, but i think if they give you all that you should give something back
clintdelicious 2 years ago 3
You do have to go but are given 2 chances of appeal. Like i think it's only 500 at a time in Afghanistan right now, but they get attached to the regulars.

01hreshy 2 years ago
If somebody joined the TA army, does that mean they R in the British armed forces? Could they then boast they served there country?
Is a tour of duty compulsory, if so, do u go front line along with other army personal?
reno573 2 years ago
you are in the forces and yes you do go on tours of duty but it depends on your regiment as to where you go. if you are infantry you go frontline etc
siddywinkles42 2 years ago

lol people diss the TA but thay seem to forget if it didnt exist no one would join the army in any way because most people these days have outside commitments and thay cant be blamed for it... most people join the TA then decide to join the regulers later on ones thayve had a taste of army life... were all on the same side... you people who have so much as a problem about it seriously need to get your head looked at lmao :')

TA infantry deploy on Herrick. Unfortunately lost a few reservists in 2008. Many more injured and others have received gallantry awards for their actions. Want to know more, research/google it.

dano199 2 years ago 6
Typical para attitude, some people fancy a crack at army life while being able to have a decent normal life too,and the TA are more essential now than they ever have been, you only have to look at how many of them are deployed!they'll never be "elite" & il agree some of them are misfits or plain thick, but im sure you'd rather these people volunteer to support the forces than having no back up at all.
tricky5282 2 years ago
Don't worry mate, one day you'll be a civvy again!! You can't be in the forces for ever!

how fit do you need to be to join the TA and if you reply can you reply on my account thanks guys
chunkyskids93 2 years ago
you have to be as fit as a regular soldier as i was in the ta for 6 years.

However i wont be 18 for CIC will that be a problem one of the majors said it could be is it true??? cheers
pemby91 2 years ago
rite i have a few questions. what age do you have to be to join the TA?, and as more and more ppl are gettin paid off in uk thn will the army tighten up on who is getting in it? and last but not least are the tours as long as the regular ones? plz some1 get back to me :)
vennom212 3 years ago
I'm in the TA, you have to be 17 to join and the army only take the fittest and toughest, regular soldiers take 6 month tours, part time soldiers go for a 1-2 week tour
WeeSmithy2k9 3 years ago
The minimum age is 17. And the T.A look at every applicant, just like the Regs do, just remember to do a little exercise before you apply :)
And yes the tours are as long as the Regs, 6 months at a time. Duties differ from regiments from Force Protection to Combat Manouvers.
Dunno where these two got the 1-2 week tour from, think they must be thinking of the annual camps, which last 2 weeks.
vexed019 3 years ago
i think that about answered it,,, if your under 18 you need parental consent. its 27 days minimum comminment /yr,compleating 8 MATT's a year and 15 day camp, tours are 6mths not including post op leave, most things are the same as in the regs but theres less benifits, dental,x factor pay, housing etc,but the advantages make up for it!! the TA is making up 35% of the regs now on tours..join n you'll find out. quite a few lads put in around 45-120 days/year
featherman208 3 years ago
can the unemployed join the ta?
