  • i know im late but if u wanna join your locs a good way to do it is to twist them together and sew them together with needle and thread that matches your hair color

  • I like your persona. You are for real. God bless you.

  • this is the method if your black. just a little twisting is enough. alot more of a tedious bitch to do if your white

  • Good tips! Thanks a lot!

  • i to have dreads mines r pass my shoulders bt am always open to sum gud advice most of the time i kp mi dreads n cornroll!!!!! bt how often should i wash my hair

  • when is a good time to started washing your hair, when having short dreads?

  • do u do your own dreads

  • Very Helpful Video....Thanks

  • i married several of my locks because they were too thin . i latch hooked the two together at the root. and eventually they grew out as one. u can also two strand twist the two thin lock together and they will fuse. i put a rubberband at the end to secure the two locks together. and after about a month or so the two locks began to fuse

  • i am getting my dreads re-done and im wondering whether i should get it done with the crochet needle technique or the standard backcombing and palm rolling technique any suggestions?

  • i have a question some of my dreads have join together what should i do

  • im a newbie , thanks for all of the great tips on twistings and more importantly for me how to keep the frizzies down to a mininum. im currently going into my second month. i need to twist daily, because my hair is very soft and fine on some areas of my head.

  • Check out dreadcap.com.

  • in regards to marrying the weaker locks together.I have done done 2 different ways depending on location of loc or how weak if the locks are on the outer edges I have twisted (tightly) two together like usual vertical (new growth and all) and then where the loc's begin to get thicker on the two, intertwine them like you do when begin to tie your toes(a horizontal twist) . Over time the two locs will be being to new growth together.

  • that is exactly how I feel now...lost...but only because of other people

  • Check out my locs and subscribe please

  • say what will keep my dreads well twist from cuming unloose fam kuz i play football and we just started spring practice and kno i gotta retwist my shyt every weekend but its mainly the front.....bu i think my hair is lockin kuz itz gettin hard in the back only so just help me with the front

  • @darian261 get the front latched, it will hold up great if you sweat alot and when you wash your hair

  • @wurduplol i did a video askin how to use the latch bu i never got no feeback....u think you can make one showin me how to do it

  • for thin locs, you can "marry" the loc with a loc next to it, using 1 of these methods:

    1. you can twist them together like 2-strand twist using lock n twist gel and let it dry..jus make sure you keep and eye on them so they stay together

    2. OR a better more secure method would be to interlock the thinner loc with one next to it (many videos are posted of interlocking that you can view)

    3. Another choice is to wrap your thinner loc with HUMAN KINKY HAIR..it will eventually loc with ur hair

  • this video has been very helpful. I started them a little over 2 months ago and would like to know what type of shampoo should i use and when to wash my hair? thanks again

  • when should i wash my hair?? i just got my hair comb twisted on feb. 2 so about 2 weeks ago..

  • if you got comb twist wait till they locs first

  • you can loop one thin dread into the other at the base. long as they are connected at the root, they will grow together, eventually. I had that same problem...

  • what type of dye you use to get your locks like that

  • U can use the small blck rubberbands. i used them alot. and i have a question have u had any thatt have completely broken. wats the best way to locck them faster

  • your hair kind of looks like mine. Im was worried about the thickness of some of my locks but I usually wet them and they thicken up. I cant get rid of the frizz lol but sometimes I really like the frizzy look (to a certain extent) nice vid

  • I'm dealing with the frizzies also!! But mine are everywhere... up and down the loc. I think that the blonde color I put in my locs might have contributed to this. My locs are 16 months old and I started with shoulder length hair.

  • mine started thinning out around the edges too and i gave up on the salons years ago so my advice/technique is that i wait til i see some flyaways within close range of two thin locks and just braid them together using the loose hairs once the lock you can then choose to leave them alone or cut one off i have some two headed locks and some that i chose to cut its just hair and its yours so you cant go wrong goodluck

  • Thanks for the video. I can relate to everything! I had someone start in '07 but my locs weren't looking right, I felt. So after 9 months, I had a friend restart them. I am please with the decision because my hair is fuller and look great. I've been growing them officially for a year.

I was wondering what would you suggest to moisturize your locs? At night, do you wrap them up? Thanks for the vids!

  • thankz for the video, my hair is about the two months process and as been looking frizzy. oh thankz for showing how simple it is to re tighten new hair growth. what do u use to keep it so moist

  • tools lol

  • these videos really help. cuz i feel i look a mess!!! but its part of the process i guess i'd better get used to it

  • you could combine the thinner loc w/another and then wrap it w/human kinky hair to make it look like one loc, if you don't want to walk around w/a loc that looks 'split'.

  • GUESS WHAT? After 8 years of being natural, I've decided to loc my hair. Today is my first day of my loc journey and I'm so excited. I love your hair and please please keep posting bc your info and encouragement IS appreciated. Thanks sis! All the best...

  • I have frizzies and thick hair. What esssential oil mix do you use and do you apply it to the scalp or loc and how often? For my frizzies I have used the natural honey. I wet my hair, & use honey with a little hair oil, my locs actually stiffens without any sticky residue after drying. I was just wandering if there was another way to get rid of frizzies.

  • heeyy.. i love ur passion 4 locs. i have a simular problem. ive been locin my hair 4 bout almost ten months now.. but i dont think they fully mature. mainly, my tiPs? they look like a fake ass jerry curl. like loose strands of hair growin threw the tip.i be wantin to cutt the tips but sum1 told me to not cut dat tips. newayy.., i would love to here ur advece. should i leave da geL alone and wax. n let em go.? or jus be more patient?? my ends r super thin.. but da lock is thicker.i dont get it??

  • I need some help... I have thick natural curly hair.. But I wonna loc it up but I have been told that they won't stay in my hair because of the texture of my hair

  • it will lock up, u just have to do it differently. u may need a different technique and a different product. and it may take longer to see the progress.

  • @lilalj1609 Try interlocking . I've seen it done on straight hair so it should work on your hair because it will keep it from unraveling and you can tighten it to the root.

  • @lilalj1609 you may have to use a tool (latch hook) I had the same problem

  • @lilalj1609 u have to use bees wax trust me

  • Thanks for letting us know about retightening using a SIMPLE process. I was afraid that I'd have to always use some tool. lol Your hair looks well moisturized! Very nice! I know you probably have the answer to your question by now, but in case you don't and for other viewers I heard Cherie on her "bradelocz twistout" video (naturalhairandbody) say that you can get locs to grow together or "marry" by twisting them together and leaving them.

  • HI dyed my hair 2 weeks ago and I can see the regrowth already. Keep taking protein and use natural oils and shampoos in your hair.

  • thx for the info!

  • i got loc 8 ta 9 inch hair at mi startup its like i dont even form together so should i cut it shorter and restart or will it still loc

  • lol, build up muscles 1:22

  • Nice video homie!! I do mine myself to! Check my vids out n let me know what you think! Suscribe Please!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • My hair gets frizzy every week. I'm just starting out 3 months right now. I have to retwist every week

  • Drink whey protein, it makes your hair grow, i've been using it for a year and my hair has grown long and my nails grow very quickly too.

  • ur so right about that. I work out daily and realized that taking whey protien made my locs grow so much faster. My nails too but my locs especially.

  • Hey, what do you use to dye your locs? I use some stuff for natural hair I got from walmart.. don't know the name.. an orange box.. I'm just curious as to what other people use for their color.

  • i started my locs out of 2 strand twists about 4 months ago. so of course my hair isnt all the way locked. i just wanted to know if i can wash my hair in between the time that i get it done without messing my hair up. i go to the salon to get it done where they wash and condition and do everything for me. so i just wanted to know if i could wash my hair and not mess it up since they arent all the way locked.???

  • I had mine done 3 mths ago and i wash them myself 1x a week. of course it gets a bit messy, but i find that the frizziness looks cute. I redo my edges myself with the tool every two weeks for neatness (because the washing messes it up) and i have the whole head re-latched professionally every 2.5-3 months. I find that washing helped with the locing process for me. everyone is different but i believe that is what helped the back of my hair loc really fast.

I hope this helped a bit...

  • ive had my locs for 2 months now is it too early to start washing? i started out with 2 strand and shuld i use a no rinse shampoo or a shampoo from the product im using?

  • @HAM52185 yea u should wash it, i used to just get it washed at a salon but your hair will loc faster the cleaner it is, because all that greasy build up in your hair lubricates the twist

  • @HAM52185 after two weeks hair for most people when twisted has loced some of the hair so by 4 months its okay to wash it just be gentle and try not to run your fingers through the sections alot and once their washed go right away dry with a towel then a blow dryer cuase the water and shampoo/condidtioner in your hair that you used goes inside of your dreads and expands them making them looser as if they werent looked and make your hair look messy.

  • well to answer your questions you can combine it to the one next to it and just combine it with your product

  • hey girl,- i am mixed race and have afro hair which iz just past my shoulders-i am ready for dreads, ive been thinking about it for years, but am still a little scared about the commitement-so i just want to do it coz i dont like any styles and cornrows are damaging my hair- as my har has been slightly damaged around my hailine do u think dreads are a good or bad idea? i know its hard to tell without seeing my hair, but i'd appreciate any feedback

    thank-u xx

  • Hey there! i know your question wasnt aimed at me but i started my locs for the same reasons that you are contemplating, because the constant manipulation was stressing my hair line (and hair). And i believe that it was the best choice for me. Honestly, if you re-latch/re-twist too often this can be counterproductive and u can end up with a receding hairline. Just space out your appointments and you should be good to go.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

  • ok thank yu

  • even if there frizzy ?

  • yes but you can use ur fingers and twist them, play with them a lil. they will be frizzy for a while.

  • what about if yur starting yur dreads n you had them n for about a week when should you retwist them?

  • you should wait as long as you can. at least 4 weeks.

  • This video helped so much.. I just recently got mine put in and didnt know much but this helped a ton. Thanks!

  • oh no problem at all, check out my dreads video if oyu want, i decided to make one from seeing all these videos it made me want to as well lol.

  • GNARLEY DREADS!!! Your video makes me feel so much better about my dreads because they are frizzy like to the Nth degree. (I am at the 3 weeks stage). So yeah thanks for posting that video most people's videos dont even explain anything it is just them showing you their dreads and your like, wtf, you suck!!! lol. Yours look awesome though i like the dye in them too!

  • THANX so much. that really means a lot. and i'm sooooo glad i can help!!! thanx for watching.

  • to get them to grow together u have to twist them at the root

  • wat do you use to tighten your locks....i got twist now

  • What do you do if your locs start thinning out at the roots?

  • how long did you wait til you dyed your tips?

  • what if my hair is falling out of my locks? how do i fix that?

  • Thanx that really helped out a whole lot. I have been goin through it. I have been lockin mine for 6 months now, and I had absolutely no idea on how to maintain them without having to pay someone, and then lookin crazy when I didnt have the money to get them done. Then there is the complex i have with lookin like "pikaninny fran" or like something off the pancake box...lol... now i just need to learn how to style it for now, and hang in there.... Thanks, the video was very informative

  • To marry them, i use fine invisible or dark thread and stitch them together. That usually works.

  • Your hair looks really good. My hair is the same length, but I haven't locked it yet. I may start them next week, deciding on interlock method or twisting them up. Thanks for video.

  • I reeele like your locs

  • thanx!!

  • wow we started our hair at the same time

  • how long have u had ur hair growing to get to how u have dem.....

  • check out my latest vid. its been almost 2 years.

  • u have sm very healthy lookin dreads they look exactly how mines used to look before i cut them but now ive been growing my hair back for 2 months an ive been lockin for like 2 weeks my problem is im obsessed with retwisting i dont like frissies never did lol but keep it up beautiful

  • ur dreads look exactly how mines used to look tear:( ive been growning my hair back an im back in tha locking process now love ur dreads though beautiful

  • built up that much. and jus like you because my hair is so baby like and thin my edges are very curl and frizzy and seem like they wont loc for shit but imma get them married so to speak. thanks so much. your great. and your very beautiful might i add but thanks

  • wow. i'm so glad my video could help you!!

not only that i'm glad u now can go forward with healthier locks!

  • first thing i was doing wrong was retwisting my hair literally every two days omg tha hell was i thinking. another thing i was doing is not washing my hair at all because once again dumb ass people told me not to wash my hair at all. its been 3 months and i still havent washed it. but this friday imma get tha lady to wash em for me. and the third thing i did wrong was using wax but its a good thing i seen ur video before it was too late because i only used wax for about a month so its hasnt

  • all i wanna say is thankx thankx thanks. you video has inspired me alot. i started my locks again abouy 3 months ago after being discouraged the first time i tried them. the first time i tried them i only kept them about 3 weeks and then i combed them out. this time im more comitted. i have very very sofy baby like hair and i got discouraged because everybody told me my hair would never lock. those lying fucks.lol its been 3 months now and you video showed me alot of things i was doing wrong

  • I asked my locttician about a few thinnning locs on the edge and she said she would join them at the root by twisting them on one visit and they by the next visit the loc would be married and she would cut one sie of the loc off at a slant so that its just one loc and not a double ended loc. I've also heard of people sewing them.

  • thanx!!

  • yea i get frizzies two...but sis, yur dreads are tight! veeery nice

  • thanx!!! and thanx for adding me to ur favorites!!

  • deserved! lol

  • is dere a certain way you gotta start ur dreads for dem to hang in ya face..cuz dats how i want mine to start simalr to urs

  • no i don't think so. the way my hair was cut b4 kind of gave it the "tapered" look. but as they grow and start to fall, you can tie it down at night the way u want it to look the next day. thats how i got mine to pretty much fall like that. and now i can't keep it from falling. lol. hope this helps =)

  • I love you for this Vid!!! I'm only for months and I got tired paying so much for the Loctician to do it. I'm doing my first retwist tomorrow. Wish me luck.

  • thanx. GOOD LUCK. hey let me know how it turns out.

  • Thanks. I'll post some links to my fotki when I finish.

  • It took 2 tries, but I got the hang of it!! Thanks. I'm drying as I type.

  • lol great!!!

  • the best thing u could do 4 the thin ones is u gotta find one like really close to it and twist one around the other. over time the two will lock 2gether

  • Good vid. I want mine to tighten. They're so frizzy I'm 2 months in.

  • haha. yep if ur hair is soft, frizzies will always be around.

  • yo thanks for giving me some inspiration i feel like a major procrastinator for not looking up this stuff a long time ago it's been a year since i started locs i finally committed to the locs around my birthday last year and although they look pretty decent i still have problems with frizz and i was starting to feel discouraged they don't look as solid as some other guys locks but this video and others have led me to look to others for advice on continuing the process

  • your dreads must be well long by now

  • Thank you for the inspiration. I really needed it. Dreadlocks have always been a dream of mine since I was little, but I had no idea that this level of commitment was needed. My hair looks pretty bad right now. Sometimes I just want to get it retwisted, but I have no intention of going backwards. These kinds of videos definitely help.

  • thanx alot 4 da advice, keep doin wat u do

  • hi, i've got really puffy dreads. what can do to make them stay together. i've tried palm rolling it, but it's not working

  • great video, very informative. i have loads of questions but will write again later.

    thx.

  • how did you get your tips that color? is it just bleached?

  • I am uncertain if you have received an anwer to your question yet, but I had a few around the hairline that were really thin and I used a little little beeswax and twisted the two thin locs together because my hair is fair ly thick. I can tell the ones I've had to combine but no one else can.

  • I've been "forced" to self maintain b/c my loctician no showed for my appt today. I suddenly realized, why the hell am I paying someone to maintain when I should learn and save my loot!

Your video(s) have given me the extra ooomphf I need to wash, condition, mosturize and retwist my own locs! You have another subscriber (smile). Video coming soon.

    Smoochez,

    ~kokofemme~

  • amen! I'm always glad i can help! thanks 4 the subscribe!!

  • hey meg i subscribed, how much for dreadlock clips to put in ur hair

  • Wow your dreads got alot longer since your product vid!

  • thanx. i have a new vid coming shortly to show my progress thus far. oh and i'm glad i could help( comment on other vid)

  • I LOVE U IN THIS VIDEO

  • Thanx sweet stuff!

  • well if your locks are too thin they can break off as they mature. i have two "double-headed dragons"

I'll send you a response on how i did it.

  • yup im white.

    i hear twisting dosent work

    on caucasian hair??

  • twisting defernatly dosent work on a white person i got it done got charged £100 from the shop i went to near me and the next day they all was unraveled and wrecked went to the shop and asked for refund guess wat??? she says no starts telling me a load of shit that they would have dreaded but i just laughed at her told her how will they dread look at em so just got mine crochet hooked and im very very pleased with it there super cool very tight and instantly matted do it this way if ur white

  • what about loose hair

  • you should be able to get it to stay in place with the product before you twist it.

  • i like yo dreads i cant wait till my hair dread up go cheack my dread vid out

  • well im using dat knotty boy wax??

and also if you dont recommend me using

wax what do you recommend me to do

as far as twisting, backcmonbing and all dat type of stuff??

  • well idk much about backcombing i only use twisting. i just put the product on the new growth or the root and twist clockwise. then use a clip to hold it into place. do the whole head then blow dry or air dry. take clips out and ur done. it takes bout me a few hours tho.

  • i got dreads about a week ago exactly

and i dont feel like thier really

dreads i just feel like da wax is holding

them together too look like dreads,

    is dat normal??

  • well this early in the game they wont feel like dreads. more like a month or so. as for wax...what kind? and too much can cause a lot of problems in the long run.

  • r u white because white ppl use knotty boy wax and do backcombing!!!

  • (answering your question about putting to dreads together) you can get the braided together or just twist them together with some wax or gel

  • Question:Do you really need to use clips when re-twisting,because putting them in and taking them out is very tiresome?

  • i agree it is tiresome...but its just to keep them in place until they are dry. so if u can think of a better way let me kno pleez! =)

  • They wrap them together with blk thread.U can't see them because they blend in with ur hair.Overtime, your locks stick together and become one.

  • Quick question: How long after locking your hair did you wait to wash it? My lock lady is driving me crazy with her song and dance about my 2 month old locks not being mature enough for me to wash on my own. I like clean hair. When I had my 'fro I washed it at least 2 times a week, so a month of a dirty scalp and hair-ness is killing me.

  • we washed my cuzzo's after a month but u can use a stocking cap and use a spray bottle with half shampoo half water and gently message it onto the scalp. i waited a month but i used an herbal cleanser by organic root stimulator..on my scalp to clean it.

  • Gently massage your hair with water and shampoo, and press your hands over your locks as you poor water over it to rinse the shampoo out.If you do that, they'll stay in place. That's how my old loctician use to do it and they never came out.

  • ths is very imformative... my boyfriend just started his locks.. they havent locked yet...but i wanted to see how to keep the neat. they so short right now tho.

  • they will get longer. start taking pics to keep up with the progress. you will be amazed!! if u have n e questions just message me or comment. thanks 4 watching. glad it helped.

  • I have just started growing my locks(2 months)and have been using wax(have stopped)problem is i have al this white stuff on my hair which i cant seem to get of,any ideas?

  • ppl have told me to use apple cider vinigar. i hear that it works great. i havent tried it but i def. would if need be.

  • thanks a bunch, have just washed my hair with apple cider vinigar as suggested and got most of the wax build up of YEEEHHHHHH away with the head scarfs.

  • I used the organic root stimulator twist and lock gel and it flaked up in my head really bad do u know why?

  • its probably just the ingredients and its not water based. but try using jamaican mango and lime they have a gel and a wax cream. the gel doesnt flake up but it wont hold really wavy/cury hair. so i use the wax cream.

  • Palm rolling after twisting it helps keep it togeather =)

  • ur actually right. i've been palm rolling the ones i can reach and i looove the outcome. =)

  • how did you start your locs?

  • i started my locs with comb coils and shea butter with a lil of organic root stimulator twist and loc gel.

  • Hi Megdunn24, to answer ur question about joining ur locs when they get 2 thin u can interlock, lock-stitch or twist them 2gether. But the better way is 2 lock-stitch with the lock-stitch/crochet tool.

  • do you ever roll your locs?

  • yea sometimes. normally the ones in front and in the back at the bottom bc i cant reach the middle really well.

  • koo. and def. i'm here to help. especially bc u said u love me =) haha. i JUST realized who u r. (gosh) i love u tooooo.

  • I really like the video and you have encourage me to keep going,my hair seem to frizz up bc of my daily exercises, could you please tell me how to handle this without stopping my workout plan. My hair is soft and curly also so would water be a good idea? This is only my third month!

  • i would wait a bit longer to the point where u can wash ur hair and it not come out almost at all.

  • HI Megdunn24, I just started the loc process on june 10, 2008 and i was wondering is it necessary to go in after 3 week to get retwist or just wait maybe after 2 months so i can have plenty of new growth and for the baby locs to grow out. right they still are looking good, this is my first time locking up i been wanting them for so long.

  • When I started locking my hair, I only got them retwisted once a month. Once they start to mature, you can go without twisting even longer (every 4 to 6 weeks). I wouldn't suggest twisting your baby locs on your own because it's way too frustrating! Good luck with your journey!

    KT

  • what kind of clips do you use to hold the locs

  • the metal one prong clips. thay come in a box or container of like 50, 80 or 100. i use like 180.

  • How you can get them to lock together is by just simply to when you are retwisting them twist those two together. They will lock at the root together and if you want when it grows longer you can cut the bottom off or not just cut off one of them on the bottom and palm role.

  • i've actually did that. and its working out pretty well. thanks.

  • megdunn24, I watched someone elses video and they said the best way to get your thinner locks to thicken is to join it with another lock and once it locks cut the smaller lock off. I do not have locks myself. I have been doing a lot of research. I am natural, but I rescently locked my sons hair. It is going to be a journey so lets see what happens.

  • sew em 2gether

  • Good Video! I'm going to use your retwisting technique the next time I retwist.

  • thanks! i hope it works well for you =)

  • water helps ur hair loc. so washing it will def be a plus. it can take locs 1-12 months to loc, but u've already started the process. u can wash ur hair now with a stocking cap on it just to keep the locs intact. however, they will still loosen up every time u wash until they have gotten into the teenage stage.

  • weLLL juz dou6le twi$t tHeM toGetHa datz wat iM doin

  • i have been growing my loc's for 2 months. I tried the tightening technique, where you put gel on the roots and clamp it. Like 2 days later my middle started to come loose and the fronts are really frizzy. I need help?

  • it will start to come out regaurdless but maybe u should try other products that will help it stay like Mango and Lime non resistant creame wax.

  • My hair wont lock anybody got some advice?

  • message me i think i can help

  • what kind of hair do you have? some hair textures take longer to lock than others........

  • i have more of a wavy curl pattern. and yes some textures take longer than others. the more curlier the quicker it will begin the locking process.
