  • Camping, a nice fire and ham radio. Throw a couple of steaks on the fire and you're set. I'm hoping to do some camping with my radio now that the weather has cooled off. Plus, if the band dies, you can monitor SWL. I'm always interested in the "truth," so I listen to Radio Havana Cuba... :) I do tend to unplug the mic for SWL as I firmly believe in Murphy, e.g. somehow the mic will get keyed. I presume that was 20m. What other bands do you like to do while camping? 73, Steve

  • It would be nice to have been shown your "ShitePole" which seems to be working quite well.

    What is it?

And I believe you can easily get into the user menu or the hidden menu and calibrate the frequency so people don't sound like Donald Duck or Lurch when you are supposedly ON frequency.

Check with WWV at 15 or 20 megs and adjust the local oscillator when warmed up so that on USB , LSB & AM the tone is the same in pitch in all modes.

I bet it would sound terrific with a 2.9KHz SSB filter

  • my favorite mode of operation! great to see others enjoying the hobby out in nature.

  • ahhh looks like alot of fun

  • @TangoTracker223 It is - you can put so many different antennas up - especially long wires. You can even use a small ATU on a farmer's fence for amazing results! I have even used a gate and fence as far as you can see for incredible contacts - people didn't believe I was only using a few watts mobile.

  • @urbex2007

I know you're right! Im a "ham" also

    73!
