When i create msdos bootable usb, i copy the i386 folder along with smartdrv.exe and autoexec.bat, but it installs to the usb drive with no other drives available ?
i have need these dos files which u have can u send me the links of those dos files which you have used in this tutorial? please send me link.........!!!!!!!
Greg after you typed in E:\winnt it asked you where is windows xp set up files were located (BLUE win xp set up screen) and you had E: still as your source directory.
How come that wasnt changed to C:\i386
Wasnt the set up files copied over to the C: drive? im was following up until that point. but dont understand that last part.
Windows will not allow you to install an older operating system. You will have to remove XP to install DOS. However, you can install it on an external or second drive if you boot from DOS. There are some DOS utilities, such as. fdisk and format that could be used to remove XP, all data, and files.
Netbootdisk...most people use this for "Ghosting" PC's over a network connection. The disk will provide the DOS networking and drivers to allow the mapping of a network drive for imaging. TCP/IP based image transfers, like GhostCast is also supported
There are several ways. The one I discuss in my videos is done using the HP Drive Key Boot Utility that you can still find using Google. I will have to develop a video and discuss it in more detail.
Yes this will work on an external drive just the same as a flash drive. The external drives are even easier to format and make bootable than flash drives. When you are installing your operating system just select the boot device in the BIOS startup menu so the computer will try and boot from the external USB drive first and begin the installation. You can install either DOS or Windows to the external drive.
Hello, Winnt and Winnt32 are files in the i386 folder that makes up the windows install files. The i386 folder is needed to install windows. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment.
HP no longer has it for download, but you can Google it with "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool". You will find several good links to download it from. Hope this helps.

The setup files can be anywhere and should not be on drive C:. Drive C: is a virus target, because that is where Windows is usually installed.

Can you please write some steps. It didn't worked for me and is confusing too.
What I did is:
Downloaded HP DRIVE KEY and created it a bootable flash drive.
Copied i386 folder.
When I restarted, it booted but it seems like linux utility. Something like "bash-0.2#" is displayed instead of C:\>

I need the WINNT or the WINNT32.
And when you make a bootable flsh drive do you have to put the I386 folder or just the files that are stored inside that folder?
