  • Greg after you typed in E:\winnt it asked you where is windows xp set up files were located (BLUE win xp set up screen) and you had E: still as your source directory.

How come that wasnt changed to C:\i386

Wasnt the set up files copied over to the C: drive? im was following up until that point. but dont understand that last part.

  • The setup files can be anywhere and should not be on drive C:. Drive C: is a virus target, because that is where Windows is usually installed.

  • the first 3 sec are about YOU to write xcopy

  • what version of MS Dos do u have here ??

  • Hey Dude, I'f I Install MS-Dos on Another Hard Disk, MS-Dos Will not Harm my XP?

  • Windows will not allow you to install an older operating system. You will have to remove XP to install DOS.

  • Windows will not allow you to install an older operating system. You will have to remove XP to install DOS. However, you can install it on an external or second drive if you boot from DOS. There are some DOS utilities, such as. fdisk and format that could be used to remove XP, all data, and files.

  • can you mount a network share with dos or any preinstallation boot environment to do network installation?

    If yes how?

  • Netbootdisk...most people use this for "Ghosting" PC's over a network connection. The disk will provide the DOS networking and drivers to allow the mapping of a network drive for imaging. TCP/IP based image transfers, like GhostCast is also supported

  • There are several ways. The one I discuss in my videos is done using the HP Drive Key Boot Utility that you can still find using Google. I will have to develop a video and discuss it in more detail.

  • frenchge that was very handy thank you very much

  • You sound like Microsoft Sam :P

  • Can you please write some steps. It didn't worked for me and is confusing too.

    What I did is:

Downloaded HP DRIVE KEY and created it a bootable flash drive.

    Copied i386 folder.

When I restarted, it booted but it seems like linux utility. Something like "bash-0.2#" is displayed instead of C:\>

  • your voice is very similar to caracter from simpsons series, like dr. hibert or so...

    just kiding....NOT!

  • lol i agree

  • will this work on a external hard drive

if it is possible pleese help thanks nice vid

  • Yes this will work on an external drive just the same as a flash drive. The external drives are even easier to format and make bootable than flash drives. When you are installing your operating system just select the boot device in the BIOS startup menu so the computer will try and boot from the external USB drive first and begin the installation. You can install either DOS or Windows to the external drive.

    Hope this helps, Greg

  • I need the WINNT or the WINNT32.

And when you make a bootable flsh drive do you have to put the I386 folder or just the files that are stored inside that folder?

  • Hello, Winnt and Winnt32 are files in the i386 folder that makes up the windows install files. The i386 folder is needed to install windows. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment.

  • thx, i found it

  • hi, I need the software to boot to DOS from USB

  • HP no longer has it for download, but you can Google it with "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool". You will find several good links to download it from. Hope this helps.

  • great thank you very much
