  • i turned 9 on that day.glad to see they had a badass show on my birthday:)

  • the demolition pictures are probably something to do with Isaac's dislike of the suburbanizing of rural areas. Played backwards to show how he thinks that building is actually destructive.

Or maybe it's cause it looks cool, i dunno.

  • best part= 0:00-3:40

  • Rest in Pieces

  • I love 1:54 . They all know what's coming...

  • You all thould check out the cover of this song that Sun Kil Moon did. Its good as well

  • Hell nah bro.

  • I'm surprised they chose to show all those demolition clips in the background ten days after 9/11 (granted they are played in reverse).

Love the song. The lyrics are profound in so many ways.

  • Haven't you noticed that theese videos are played backwards?

  • i MISS you charlie

  • i would have killed to see this show!

  • I like the 'Modest Mouses' too.

    ...Lol.

  • Thnk you for posting this. I am going to see them 09/09/09 here in HI. Almost eight years since i was there at Ridglea. Chee!

  • and i have just jizzed my pants

  • this makes me soooooo excited for outside lands.

  • from never ending math equation to 3rd planet? I would explode.

  • mmm...this is tasty goodness..

  • Did we go see modest mouse with you at the wrigley or was that something else?

  • yes youse guys were at this show at the ridglea. i think aldumbo, jaime-lo and drizawll were also at this show. there is another video from the built to spill show youse guys also attended.

  • shit it sounds just like it does on the album, fucking amazing!!

  • I'm surprised they went with the blown up buildings reforming 10 days after 9/11 ... (background screen)

    but still, great song live

  • its is footage from the movie koyaanisquatsi.

  • gonna have to listen to third planet now

  • I love the twang emphasis he puts on some of the lyrics

  • oh my gah-EEE-odd

  • im saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame as i was when i was six years ollldd

  • this song sounds great live

  • it really does. Issac is great, isnt he? They all are!

  • to true

  • i would give a kidney to hear them play this live

  • Done

  • i saw em at merriweather on wednesday and they played king rat. pretrty kickass show. REM sucked though, just as i expected

  • I really wish they would tour with a dj just for this song and heart cooks brain.

    but then again,

they won't play anything that isn't off of WWDBTSES and GNFPWLBN

sans a few accessible songs off of M&A

I really really really do miss the old modest mouse of yore.

seeing them at the black cat, DC really blew my mind back in '01.

  • saw them at Red Rocks this past monday--amazing show btw--and they played Trucker's Atlas

  • they played doin the cockroach, broke, teeth like god's shoeshine, truckers atlas, dramamine, and tiny cities made of ashes last night in rochester

  • You're lucky, I saw them in Detroit with Man Man. The only old song they played was Breakthrough. I was a little disappointed. I still love them though.

  • that must have been soo good

  • dude i was there, great show. the whale song was fucking awesome!

  • NO WAY?!

  • dude, im pretty sure that isn't a dj scratch...you can make a scratching sound on the guitar strings. and yeah, hcb is the shit

  • fucking awesome

  • Wow, this brings back memories. I saw them on 9/10/01. Boy was it weird seeing the Towers go down after watching all this demolition footage the night before. I wonder how others felt?

  • this was 10 days after september 11th and they have buildings being demolished in the backround.. i wonder..

  • Lol.

  • this is probably one of my favorite songs from these guys... its funny how people emulate what they listen to, but with these guys, its the other way around... His music emulates people...

  • Probably the best live video ive seen of MM on youtube. Wish I could have been there...;(

  • he sounds angry

  • I also saw them in Milwaukee. For this song, I like the Sun Kil Moon version better.

  • sun kil moon is a fucking retard. he takes modest mouse lyrics and makes them "his own" he can't come up with anything clever enough to call his own. what a rip off. fuck sun kil moon.

  • Sun Kil Moon never claimed those lyrics as his own you retard. The album is advertised as a cover of Modest Mouse songs.

  • you can't change an entire song except the lyrics and expect people to think it is a cover album. it's retarded and he's retarded and nobody likes him.

  • Who cares what you think. Dont you think that Modest Mouse would have sued him for stealing their music. MM knew about the whole deal. Get your head out of your ass and stop trying to act cool. No one cares about you.

  • and no one cares for your opinions either, yet you keep arguing because you want to be right.

no. Modest Mouse wouldn't sue him, (1)it's a waste of time, (2)They're not money hungry fiends, and (3) who cares that much. the point i'm trying to make is that sun kil moon SUCKS ASSSSSSSSSSSS and my opinion will'nt be changed.

  • I agree, that pansy ass should write his own lyrics. at least isaac is a drunk instead of pansy ass emo acoustic guitarist

  • Your ignorance is stunning. Mark Kozelek, who basically IS Sun Kil Moon, has been making music for a long, long time. He has an enormous catalog of work behind him - and hopefully even more in front of him.

  • i saw them live in milwaukee best fucking show ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • MODEST MOUSE IS AWESOME!!!

  • If you like MM give Califone a try. Isaac is friends with the band and has collaborated on some projects. Also toured together. Different sound, but it's the kind of band you slowly fall in love with.

  • DEFINITely my favorite mm song

  • in the top 10 of best MM songs

  • mip, you rock!

  • Ft. Worth!

  • just awesome. Love the screen in the back; Issac is at full form.

  • "My friend had told me this little story about jumping in his car to go off campus during lunch period on the day of 9/11. He got in the car and "this plane is definately crashing!" roared back at him! It just shook him up a little bit"

Your friend is a liar, don't believe that story for a second

  • Aww, I was there, in the front row. I have so many closeups of the guys. Too bad my camera at the time didn't do video, or I could share mine. That was a fantastic show. Good memories...

  • I adore their old stuff. I adore their new stuff too.

  • i love this song

  • !!! is frickin great too... me and giuliani down by the schoolyard is brilliant

  • My friend had told me this little story about jumping in his car to go off campus during lunch period on the day of 9/11. He got in the car and "this plane is definately crashing!" roared back at him! It just shook him up a little bit.

  • I also had a simular experience on that day. Guy i work with who turned me onto Roy Harper. I gave him Soul Coffin Ruby Vrroom. He never found time to listen to it so before I left I grabbed it back and listened to it on my way home. "A man drives a plane into the Chrysler building" I raise an eye brow.

  • Well, I was at this show. I remember it being at the ridglea theatre in Ft. Worth Tx. That was the date 9/21/01. Yume Bitsu opened first for them, then another indie band called !!! - It was my first rock concert ever and the best one. I bought the shirt with sperm whale and the squid on it, one eye + the other eye -. Just a great year for that band all together with everywhere and his nasty parlour tricks coming out the following year.

  • Yes this was in Ft. Worth. I bought the same shirt.

  • i believe i was at this show also. Think the video was taken in Atlanta at the Variety Playhouse. The images in the background (buildings being demolished) were kinda of out of place....especially cuz of the date if anyone happened to notice. Just ten days after Sept. 11.

  • i think there in place and fit well , if you look closely there buildings falling up and this was during there building nothing out of something era. Fits perfectly

  • more along the lines of the moon & antarctica era. Although some of the film is reversed showing buildings falling up, other buildings are shown being demolished. At the atlanta show, not much was said about the film during the show (even by the band). It just seemed kinda of weird at the time and all......not such a perfect fit i believe. Victims of bad-timing i suppose.

  • yeah i just realized its 01' way off i just associated it with building nothing since of this song. Either way i like the backround

  • Issac addressed this before they started playing. They had these films for the tour before 9/11, and he said they had nothing to do with the World Trade Center.

  • i heard of them through float on two years ago... got into them... got all their cds... have been to two concerts within the last 6 months... I met Isaac Brock on Monday right as he was getting out of his van and walking into the United Palace Theatre... he was so calm and collected and he signed my political theorist--John Locke book that I was studying for a final...The We Were Dead cd is probably my 3or4 favorite cd behind Moon and Antarctica, Good News, and LonesomeCrowdedWest....

  • Weird title. Weird song. Weird band.

    I LOVE IT!

  • 14 yrs old. love modest mouse. found em through a friend. anyone like We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank???

  • HOLY SHIT I WAS AT THAT SHOW!!!

  • mee 2 , awesome show.

  • Iam tired of everyone saying they sold out and there uncool , if it wasnt for them "selling out" tons of young teens would never get into the indie scene. Sure there on mtv but there musics still consistant with who they are. People change , why wouldnt there music as well

  • Actually, you are right. Had i not heard float on in (albeit of all places) American Eagle, I would never have started the search of modest mouse records, scrounging up every last darned one i could find. I asked my brother about them (who listens to some bands that I had never even heard of) and he replied by giving me about half of their discography. I was addicted(started at 13 and is 15 now :D)

  • i got into indie through The Walkmen, Modest mouse and The Pixies. im 14

  • Yeah, they changed, and why not. Better than totally chewing out old concepts.

My taste changes as well, but I really don't feel anything for the recent modest mouse songs. They are slick, and boring with that. I fell in love with the rather discomforting sound from their older records, and they luckily made such a huge amount of it that that will do for me.

I hope they get stupendously rich and famous, they worked bloody hard for it.

  • I agree with every single word in your comment.

  • These guys rock. One of the top young bands today.

  • Young bands? HA! Modest Mouse has been around for 14 years. I'm sure you mean young in the terms of their recent success, but its still funny.

  • I guess you are right, I never heard of em till a couple years ago. Young to me, but I love this music.

  • 14 years oh my god i'm feel so damn old.

wow, that is a long time ago in some respects, but in other respects it isn't that long a time ago at all.

  • awesome song to begin building something out of nothing

  • Does anyone else hate how fags try to say Modest Mouse isn't music because they dont play fast like Joe Satriani, it isnt about speed its about sound/feel and transitions and not sounding like every other 80's band

  • the guitar sounds just like exit does not exist from their first album

  • ModestMouse, is likecountry met, rock,/redneck

  • What? Nice way to make sense.

  • that is such an interesting background

  • I like how this ends live.

  • I love them there modest mouses! o;

    This song rocks.

  • this is one of my favorite songs

  • hahahahaha, what the fuck? some of you people need to fucking go back to elementary school. How the hell do you people figure out how to even turn your computer on? hahaha, jesus that's comedy "sun kil moon did a better version" "ISAAC BROCK IS HAWT" "modest mouses" hahahaha, holy shit!

  • asshole! Go suck sun kil moon's dick!

  • Sun Kil Moon did a better version?! you pretentious twat... I think even Mark K himself would admit now that his version was vastly inferior...

  • Modest Mouse FTW

  • sun kil moon can suck isaacs dick.

  • Bankrupt on selling is good to. and perfect disguise.

  • lol @ fire!! owned talesfromhere!!

  • a better version? modest mouse didnt do a good version of their own song?

  • always better live. dude.

  • I like the modest mouses too!

  • Sun Kil Moon did a way better version!

  • I disagree.

  • Sun Kil Moon is an unoriginal parasite.

  • Sun Kil Moon is an unoriginal parasite.

  • Sun Kil Moon is an unoriginal parasite...

  • God who'd want to be such an asshole?

  • wrong song asshole haha

  • Ok, that's weird, sorry folks I thought I was replying to another comment and that would go below it in a thread. Whatever.

  • What year was this? Thanks.

  • ISAAC BROCK IS SO HAWT!! I LOVE HIM!!

  • yea you'll never do him.

  • Too bad, because I just did him six ways to Sunday! Bitch!

  • me and isaac totally went all the way IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

  • []\\//[] []\\//[]
