You got it right on. My father taught me how to drive when I was 13 on his 1965 VW Beetle (on private land of course). When I took the license test, I already had a tremendous amount of experience. Since I got my license two years ago (I passed with nothing but complements), I have driven well over 100K miles, mostly for work. I agree that experience is everything.
Also, stick keeps you paying attention a lot better.
Some of you are very wrong. Just because you pass a test doesn't make you an "official driver" that knows how to drive well. Some people drive well, yes but do they actually follow everything in the road? just think about it.
thats so stupid. the point is that teenage driver's haven't developed their full judgement to be able to use on the road, which doesnt happen until you're in your 20's. also, restrictions such as limiting the amount of people in the vehicle can reduce the amount of injuries and fatalities among passengers if the teen driver does manage to get into an addicent. i see what you're saying, but restrictions ARE necessary.
Those studies are BS. If teens are immature and idiotic, it's because they've been raised to be so by adults too lazy to actually let them take on responsibility and show them the ropes.
It's easier for adults to forbid teens to do something than to actually teach them how to do it, which is why we have people waiting till their 20s to get their licenses nowadays.
Cars in general are a problem because they are to easy, thus boring. If cars could have a complication level of at least a LSA plane it would be allot better. Yet they will never be good. I will never own a car, I will own a plane. Cars are pethetic and awful
oh really i would loveee to see u try to drive my dad's..with the traction control OFF! u probably crash it going down the road. and this i kinda awkward cause he loves cars and planes cause he works for united haha
there are good points out there. i got my license 4 years ago, actually, but im actually a pretty good driver. if you want people to pay more attention on the road, though, have them learn standard (stickshift), because it keeps you hands-on with the vehicle and forces you to pay attention to what you're doing. Im just glad i got through Driver's ed before Jodi Rell put all the new retarded restrictions on Connecticut drivers.
amen! I told my dad that my first car HAD to be a stickshift and that I wouldn't have it any other way, I currently drive a Volvo S40 stickshift and its so fun to drive, but I definitly agree that it makes you more focused on the road. Oh, and yeah, Jody Rell is the biggest retard, ever. Those new driving restrictions are fucking stupid.
letting a 14-16 yr old have a car licence is letting kids drive on the puplic roads, not a good idea, at 18+ yrs old your much more mature and aware to different situations. the person driving this car on this vid has some good points but she's probably a dumbass driver that doesnt bother with her mirrors and signals too often, i know she looks straight on at the direction she's driving but she doesnt seem to be very aware of her surroundings whilst making a youtube video.
everyone has a different thought on it and it definately depends on where you live i think. i could drive when i was 10 and could probably of passed a theory test and driving test, would that mean i was ready for the road? young drivers in the uk are generaly racey drivers and put others at risk. youths are bad enough on mopeds here never mind cars that can carry 3-4 people and are 3-4 times faster than mopeds. its a bit like when should drivers stop driving when they get old?
also, i said 18-21 as a rough example age and no 18 is not a special number but even at 18 you are still growing lol.
just a few years makes a big difference in how someone is. young people can be imature one year and mature the next, they change so fast and i think that alone makes a difference.
anyway i know what you mean and understand but im just saying what i think.
umm yeah, not all teens are irresponsible, and just because your 18, doesnt mean that you have more driving experience than a 16 yr. old. yes, a few years can sometimes make a difference, but some 18 year olds arent responsible. and 16 yr.olds are.
i think you should be 18-21 to be able to drive on the road and all driving lessons should have car control exam (learning to handle an out-of-control car). everyone on every car journey makes mistakes on the way, no one is perfect and everyone drives differently. accidents cant be stopped but can be reduced. wear seatbelts, stick to speed limits or lower, use mirrors and signals always. i guess it depends what country you are from. also get professional tuition, not parents/friends.
she makes a lot of good points. shes correct they should change the laws a parent of a 20 year old is gunnu be just as devastated as the parent of a 14 year old. its not our brains its us not having the ability to drive thats because u dont teach us.
well, here's a thing...I'm a Romanian...not very proud of that because I absolutely love driving...and, I'm 14, and here, the law is that you can take lessons followed by licence only when you're 18...so, think of this...I don't say you don't but you should consider your self very very very lucky and be vrey greatful that you have licence and also you are allowed to drive...belive me, that it is a very very long waiting for me, even thought there are only 4 years to pass..I simlpy can't wait!
everyone should really laugh at those driver ed things and those restrictions on licenses and other such madnesses.
the 18 driving age is garbage; teenagers are adults, who are disrespected, and deserve better treatment; and you mam, are an excellent driver.
screw the bastards who try to "better" the world by restricting it, and up with your cause! Anatefca supports you, and may your victories be great and plentiful.

teenager's brains are very impulsive and tend to understimate the realities of accident.
Its better to learn at older age
