  • LOL at the people white knighting a popular metal band

  • I feel the dark too Mikael Åkerfeldt :/

  • hold onto your butts all you feeble minded, so-called metalhead, cunt cry babies, who can't see the heavy metal that is 'Heritage'

we are one step closer to "Storm Corrosion" pussies!

  • @SelenaRedman well said XD

  • Why so much hate? This is still amazing. Just because it's not heavy doesn't mean it's not music. There is a lot worse.

  • if you love opeth, you'll shag to this song!!

  • I really love my cat.

  • Where are the breakdowns Mikael promised me Breakdowns what is this this isn't music.

  • @Deliverance02x

Watch out, there are people on here who can't detect sarcasm.

  • @cjb8824... Preach it.

  • FUCKING OPETH! Please check out my Forest of October cover.

  • ive been a fan of opeth for ten years now, and i think heritage isn't the BEST move akerfeldt could have pulled, but "i feel the dark" for example is a very good song. i just hope mike finds a way to put the heaviness back into the songs, but i think most fans will support him as long as his artistic decisions seem decent and true. we all owe akerfeldt many good moments, maybe we should put some trust into him, as usual.

  • The opening melody mixed with the velvet vocals made this song an instant classic for me.

  • I NEED HELP. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT KIND OF GUITAR THEY USE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS SONG?

  • @thisholyreality6 An acoustic guitar?

  • @ajgators I'm assuming he means what type of acoustic guitar. There are many different styles and brands depending on what sound you're looking for.

  • @ajgators A classical guitar to be more specific.

  • @thisholyreality6 I believe it is known as the "Grandspa's guitars"

  • @blargh98315 Yeah... nice one...

  • @Braydsy You mad bro?

  • @blargh98315 Shh..

  • Heights of awesomeness !

  • I find it pretty awesome how, whenever I listen to Opeth, I feel like doing art ^^

  • wow

    nunk habra

    una banda

    como sta"""

    NUNKA!!!!

  • Go here!!! Opeth played along to Destino by Salvador Dali. It fits perfectly. /watch?v=IcPZ69myGec

  • for me, this album is best sippin on beam & cokes, watching the traffic outside my hotel window.

  • Why do people still argue over albums from artists? Are artists not allowed to do what THEY want? They make the music for themselves. We just happen to enjoy it and pay for it. Opeth have changed their style on every album. This album is magnificent. It's not as heavy, but they've always been progressive. While this is softer music, it still maintains their creepy atmosphere and shows off their technical abilities and musicianship...

This isn't better/worse than any other album. It's different.

  • Its so annoying listening to people get pissed off about this album. Opeth are progressive musicians and each album is unique. This one is not one of the most "metal" albums but its still very much Opeth and its great. If you want "metal" then go listen to a simple metal band. Opeth is a group of incredible musicians whos music is almost its own genre and this album is another great one to add to their collection of amazing albums. Bands need to evolve or they become boring and repetitive

  • @cjb8824 Simple metal bands ? As in opposition to shitty ass metal band who turned insanely terribad by releasing the most atrocious poseur faggotry out there ?

  • @cjb8824 I mean, being a die hard Opeth fan is pretty hard these days with such crap. I have never missed a Opeth show in Montreal but I can tell you there's no chance I'm gonna see them with Mastodon, this is to goddamn awful.

  • @MiseryCrown are you retarded? this stuff is brilliantly put together, just because it isnt heavy doesnt mean its bad

  • @MiseryCrown fagg

  • @MiseryCrown take the cocks out of your ears and ass!

  • @MiseryCrown You do know they're going to play Heir Apparent, The Grand Conjuration, The Drapery Falls, and Deliverance right?!?!

  • @cjb8824 true man! every metal video i see out there is full of fans always talking shit

SINCE WHEN METALHEADS TURN SO BITCHY AND GAY!

they all should go see lil gayne or weed khalifa videos and stop being annoying

great comment you made btw! cheers!! :)

  • @cjb8824 Yes! Opeth are real musicians, great musicians! So it's only natural that they think outside the box, expand the horizon. Some people just don't really get it... :-/

  • Heritage is insanely awesome.

  • this is beyond music!

  • 3:05 ... Holy shit, I knew I shouldn't have listened to this at work. Although I did manage to wake everyone up.

  • I still find the cover-art a little disturbing and confusing..

  • Me Likes!

  • oh my crap!!!

  • That acoustic riff is wonderful.

  • love the bass line at 1:05

  • LP/CD Cover is DEF remake of :Moody Blues ! In search of the lost chord.

Sounds good and Memories without an end....

What ever happend to Real Music.......RUSH, E.L.P, Sabbath ?????????????????

  • I hear a ton of metal in this song!

  • opti the gap in recommendations WTF IS IT

  • So glad to see metal mixed with other generes...so beautiful to listen to this even mi mother like it :D

  • Very Good. This music is to no one put defect

  • Just 1 word to describe this song "Masterpiece"

  • One of the best song ever made

  • Great song. I still wish there were a few heavy songs for us old fans.

  • Watch Opeth live and see that they are doing what they love and they are doing it very well..

few bands have such rabid fans.. Opeth haters volunteer for daily dry glove ass-fistings...

  • My personal favorite opeth album of all time

  • It wasn't ment to be heavy in the first place. The fact that Mikael decided to not stick to metal this time shows his maturity and his connection with music. He know he doesn't need to sell out to be good. He loves prog rock anyway, so this is what he's always wanted.

  • I ASK EVERYBODY WHO TALK SHIT ABOUT HERITAGE TO TRY TO PLAY ONE OF THE ALBUM SONG OR COMPOSE MUSIC LIKE THIS :P

  • The bass is so awesome :D

  • Opeth ?? that ? WTF ?

The show in switzerland was so..disappointing / sad

  • Per Wiberg head is falling IDK why... xD

  • @vaxkors95 It's a symbol, representing how Per left the band after the making of this album.

  • Great musicians, gotta love the DW drums

  • Ha, their actual heads are in the tree, how cool.

  • what. a. great. song.

  • some kind of a chill ran through me during this song... it's absolutely amazing

  • I contradicted myself in the last two messages, but I was seriously butthurt when I bought the last album. I was in dire need of some sofisticated fucking death. There's just too much grind nowdays and Opeth was my fallback as a death metal lover. Weird I know, but true.

  • Opeth is fucking death! And that is that...

  • Holy fucking titty shit! Why is everything black and white here? This is a great album as many says, but it's not the greatest album. I have to admit that the lack of death almost made me cry. In short, this album is great, but it doesn't quite deliver...sadly.

  • Sorry, worst album in opeth history. Damnation far superior than this. It is not even Opeth, they just released a completely new album of unknown band under the brand of Opeth

  • this album cover remember the status quo one...anyway good album (I'm not an Opeth or hevy metal fan, more a '70 rock one, that's why I like it...)

  • How they managed to pull a freaking headbanging moment for me without metal is magic :O

  • I love Axe, but just Imagine how amazing this CD would sound with Martin Lopez on it :/

  • @dime133 :\ yeah

  • Ok ...good music, excellent written songs but i want to have more Progressive Death Metal elements again for the next one.

  • Enjoy the total beauty of this album, listen to it . There is always a heavy side of Opeth in other albums. This is their jewel in My opinion :)

  • All these 'fans' complaining about Heritage not being heavy enough need to listen to more music and expand their musical tastes...this album is full of win.

  • @X3rce5 I AGREE 1000000000000000000000%.

  • @X3rce5 Such a wasted opportunity to mention the Damnation album. You have let me down sir or madam.

  • @X3rce5

I love opeth.... but this is more like dream theater, and dont say I hate it just because its not heavy, I love Damnation and it isn't heavy at all

  • @X3rce5 I absolutely agree! I've loved Opeth for a long time and I am in love with this album!

  • @X3rce5 still in no way a point to not want another dynestic heavy album from Opeth, its where they excell, thus extremely logical that many ppl wanted heavy rather than jazzy folk music, if your from the northern part of the world you would know this style of music is in no way new or innovative, I will even say the instrumental, progressive alternative death metal they make is far more creative than this

  • @warmdickweed Opeth arent the kind of band you go to if you want something heavy. Cannibal Corpse is better for that. Opeth are a band that you go to if you want musicianship, progression, and creativity.

  • @X3rce5 right on dude, this album is a masterpiece, people need to learn how to control their aggression

  • the dynamics on this record are overwhelming. i bought the lp and although I'm a huge fan of authentic dynamics I was surprised how real the songs on heritage felt. they really went back to the roots.

  • love it! haters will hate and die for loneliness

  • Comment removed

  • Some metal heads act like this whole album is a ballad. There is no Coil, Isolation Years, Hope Leaves, or any song like that. Alot of the songs on this have very mellow parts but they also have some very heavy parts(old heavy. the slow, dissonant stuff) in there that set them apart from anything on Damnation or their older clean stuff.

  • i feel the dark...what a title! absolutely perfect! thumbs up for opeth!

  • @ 4:17..is it Crimson or Opeth? lol..I LOVE LOVE LOVE this album!

  • i love this song! and i love every aspect of the Opeth universe.

and Mr. Opeth is one funny guy!!!

  • i love the new album <3

  • My mother didn't die a little bit inside when I played this album. Something evil has been left out!

  • Yet another masterpiece by the mighty Opeth. I love everything they've done and I'm reeeaally digging the earthyness to the production. This is the good stuff man! Take a hit, it will make you feel goooood!

  • With Opeth, you're always on drugs.

  • i dont think they 'changed direction' theyve always played like this. they have a hybrid and progressive style which is obviously evident. i think they have only evolved and grown into something a little more sensual. i love it and i still think every opeth song is a masterpiece. theyve definitely earned their spot in metal history.

  • @santeedeathmetalhead : I can't agree more !!!

  • @blaxxus : Opeth fans are in a way true music lovers looking for something genuine and original, so I don't think their music being commercial or not matters much to them(or me atleast).

  • it doesnt have to be metal to be good music-.-

  • @Drargoz That's just it... metal is the only true music left... metal explores all the realms.

  • @disasterbydesign "True music" is a silly term. People have just started liking different kinds of music. But I would agree thats metal bands have a bit more freedom in their music.

  • @Drargoz agree, but this is still metal :)

  • @Drargoz

    *nods*

  • @Drargoz Well obviously XD

  • Music Perfection: When you play what you like and what you love, Opeth does that, so they are a music perfection! <3 Opeth

  • opeth's album were always sooooooo good cos they broke up the insain brutality with almost beautiful songs like this. heritage is full of these great songs but theres just no brutal , hard edge to this album. did anyone else feel it was just missing something when the finished listening to it???? great album but i though it was just missing a couple of those awsome intence songs like heir apparent in watershed. just my opinion

  • åkesson in guitar about few years, and you talk about death metal? now opeth is there where it belongs. love it!

  • "You don't wanna see his "Mother's tongue."

  • What makes Opeth amazing is the fact their first language isn't English. Imagine writing songs this good, let alone with words in a language not of your mother tongue. Outstanding.

  • @Cheximus Swedes are pretty good at english but even so. Yes quite impressive.

  • This is so psychedelic!

  • fav!

  • ELOY!!!!!!!!

  • this is the BEST album of 2011 IMO

  • @pmacbay I think the price is taken by Steven Wilson's Grace for Drowning...

  • awesome.......... just awesome

  • Opeth is amazing, even when they're doing Prog Rock songs.

I prefer Opeth playing Death Metal rather than Prog Rock, but, "Heritage" is a fucking amazing album.

It proves that Opeth is unique.

And next year, they'll come to Brazil.

  • @princedarkmetal1907 They were never death metal.

  • @Megadedly They were in their most early days. Did you know that that is why the cover art of 'Heritage' features some kind of 'hell' under the tree? The cover art displays their entire career, and the 'hell' represents their death metal era.

  • @greetz2metal It represents their heavier roots, not "era". As Mikael said himself the next album may be heavier, you can't force writing, it turns out the way it does, and growls just didn't fit on this album. They never had "death metal" themed lyrics or anything to give them the name death metal. They have always been prog, and the heavier side of Opeth is just an equal portion of Mikaels diversity as a composer.

  • @Megadedly Well, before their first demo they played covers from mainly death metal bands. Thats what I meant. For the rest I agree with you. They were never really death metal, maybe just a progressive form of it. Anyway, Heritage is one of the best surprises of 2011, next to getting a waterpipe from my mother XD

  • This and The Devils Orchard are the only songs I liked from this album...

  • this is pretty :)

  • aaahhh los amo¡¡ ajajxd

  • this sounds so natural, no remixes remakes whatever makes music more "voluble" and easy to digest...

great musicians!!! no one sounds like Opeth

  • my dad got 2 tattoos from the O from Opeth on his arm and on his back.

now i am fan too :)

  • IMO best song from this album

  • Saw them last night, blew me away. Best band in the world.

  • how aristotechical and pleasurable song they can compose damn it????? to good to be human

  • I don't know why but this song reminds me Orchid record

    Beautiful, love it

  • I approve of the new sound

  • absolutely most beautiful album !!! guys do not have to be heavy all the time and this is proof that a metal band can make a beauty like this!!!! Love it!!!

  • @wiserthanwise54 They do need to be heavy.

  • magnificent compositions by Mikael....full of progression but lack of innovation..and they (he) tried to be innovative it is obvious..brutal vocals or guitar sound (less distortion etc) do not make so much difference...I love the songs anyway! the only thing it was not necessary is Mikael's too much talking about the issue of changing and stuff...Record it, release it and let it be man....do not fuzz about it..

  • Going seeing opeth tonight for the second time, im wondering how different this gig is going to be from the last one i saw, i hope they still play old classics like masters apprentice and ghost of perdition....

  • so, Opeth would be the new Zeppelin? just saying, I don´t like their new style

  • @MusicfeedsmysoulImI Graveyard, is the new led zeppelin, opeth is even better... but both graveyard and opeth are from sweden, wierd huh? :P

  • to be honest i never thought the growls suited opeths stuff. I'm liking this a lot.

  • I did like Devil's orchard but at mo after numerous listens to album I can warrant the notion that this is my favourite track of opeth's new album. Despite not 'Loving' akerfeldt's pro melodic, sweet vocals, I really like what he is doing musically at the moment. Kudos. p.s. Dont get me wrong his voice is an asset.

  • This is wonderful! My favourite track of the album

  • this is a musical masterpiece

  • Nice. This new album will keep kids with slipkshit t-shirts away from their concerts.

  • @fwfwfw I doubt there are kids with slipknot shirts on their shows, just because some of us like extreme metal doesn't mean we like slipknot, which isn't even metal to begin with...

No offense, but you must be a close-minded prog fan to generalize any fan of extreme music to be a "slipshit" fan...

  • @MoonOvIce We live in a world where people have different opinions. Well, I don't like slipknot, and, in fact, I haven't listened much from them. I don't fit in. Opeth is cool, I like them, and their heavier stuff too, but, sadly, kids think this is an invitation to act brutally at their concerts, and I just hate that kind of behavior, I think that monkeys wouldn't jump and thrash like that, this is sad. I'm starting to find out why some guys say it's better to stay home and enjoy the DVD.

  • .. One of the best Death metal singers of all time in bloodbath and a beautiful voice in this band.

  • it took a few listens before i could really get into the whole album.....i now absolutely love it!!!.... :D \m/

  • I was always wondering when they'd turn into a straight up prog band. Metal or not, this is still very much Opeth, and I really appreciate that they've finally "progressed" their sound. They've been treading the same path for too long as it is. I say this as a metalhead and a huge fan of their first three albums, especially My Arms, Your Hearse. Personally, I think they have a winner here as well.

  • Amazing song, amazing vocals.

  • wow beautiful and this guy can SING

  • This is one of the sickest Opeth songs I have heard in a while, cant wait to pick the album up.

  • EXCELLENT song.

  • 4:45 - 5:12 <3<3

  • Boring.

  • It seems like Axe is digging through some Lopez stuff =)

  • @fwfwfw Martin Lopez would be the perfect drummer for the record. Sad,that he isn't with the band anymore.

  • this one stays with you.......tip-top

  • No more Death Metal please.

  • @AnthemsToTheWelkin Their Death Metal is brilliant though

  • This album is the only logical step for opeth. Absolut brilliant.

  • i have nothing against the new album i actually think its pretty good, its just not my style.

  • Oh my god! It really sounds like a Pink Floyd rip off... What the hell is happening to all bands ... First Cryptopsy and Morbid Angel , now Opeth! Why are all the good bands turning commercial!? Thank god we have Nile!

  • @ThyBibleBasher actually i have the feeling this is a lot less commercial. they took a big risk in changing their direction, they could have lost all fans if you think about it. this progginess is not commercial at all

  • @blaxxus I have been an Opeth fan for many years, and I like this album, but compared to bands like Wobbler or Discipline, this isn't more than a small sample of prog rock.

  • @blaxxus Dead on! They have also always had a tendency to release a softer album after releasing something hard, almost as an artistic way to balance the universe. I fully expected something softer after Watershed, and they blew me away with this album. I have always loved Opeth but this might be one of my favourite albums, not just by Opeth but of all time! Nothing commercial about this one at all, its just plain progressive brilliance!
