  • @ imprezzi,

The jm sig was spawned off the SRV strat that he's playing here. Few things to look out for, the stevie ray vaughn signature on the headstock and the Left handed bridge tremolo.

  • The solo gives me chills everytime...

  • Thats definitely a JM sig. strat not a SRV. Pretty much the same except the pickups are modified Texas Specials-Fender calls them Big Dippers. And the neck is slightly different.

  • i watched this fucking video a few hundred times the last few days ... this song is never getting old and his Coverd In Rain solos are spot on all the time. he's a master.

  • that solo... I'm in tears damnit.

  • The SRV Strat John is playing...is simply a masterpiece.

  • this is the best solo i have seen of covered in rain. he puts so much emotion into it. look at his face at 5:38, he fuckin screams. all of the solos he does for CIR are amazing and i think they tell the real story behind the meaning of the song. he makes the guitar cry. i think theres more behind it than just 9/11.

    but thats just my opinion

  • ahhhh he never performs this! i hope to see it someday :)

  • He is once again playing this on rare occasions for this tour... I am going to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.... If he plays it, it will be posted!

  • @merc2b I pray that he plays it in Massachusetts on Aug. 6th. I'll be there!

  • @merc2b I'm praying he plays it when I see him Aug. 6th in Massachusetts

  • Anyone who was there must've been standing with their jaws somewhere close to their feet. I'd say that these 6 minutes or so are enough reason to keep on living.

  • HOLY SHIT THAT KICKS IN LOUD. Amazing song and performance.

  • Un.be.lievable.

  • Sick~~!

  • Definitely my favorite Mayer song. The guitar solo part takes me to another dimension.

  • I'm thizz-face-ing.

  • I'm thizz-face-ing.

  • always love watching him play, but looks like he needed a cheeseburger

  • John Mayer's Covered in Rain has the most amazing solos a song can have, in my opinion.

  • THIS IS AMAZING!

  • IMO, his 2008 tour was defs the best. He played all the brilliant songs off of continuum, AND he threw in gems like this =0 i wish i could have been there.

  • He has got to perform this song more often. It's freaken awesome.

  • he is genuis

  • Damn that solo is insane, how the hell does he know the right notes to play, like how does he combine all those scales into one solo.

  • the part of the solo at the end with the hammering and slides with one hand still makes my jaw drop

  • ..................... wtf

  • this one is pure bliss, like it better than in every given thursday

  • VERY good version! and it looks nice that everything is (almost) black n' white except the guitar, which is the only thing in colors :).

  • i was there for that show!

  • What an insane solo! Love him...

  • he looks really skinny...

  • oh my god....

  • sick

  • 5:22 is epic.

  • AGREED!

  • I dont think he does any from of drugs...so maybe he's just high on the music.

  • No apparently he was an avid pot smoker, no joke

  • ya he admits to smoking pot.....But, he doesn't do anything other then that...

this song is beautiful, he wrote it after 9/11

  • beauty of a srv strat..and john mayer

  • thats a john mayer strat, not a srv

  • oops, my bad, didnt see the left handed tremelo.

    my apologies, you were right.

  • thats not an SRV strat...thats the guitar he bought when he was 19. He always uses that guitar for covered in rain, rarely does he use another guitar. This guitar looks like an SRV but im pretty sure its not... i have one and this guitar has silver hardware and the SRV has gold..i know he could have changed it but im still pretty thats not it?Correct me if im wrong

  • No it IS an SRV, the hardware is gold and it has a left handed tremelo, its difficult to tell but it definitley is his SRV strat, he bought it when he was 17

  • @YolondaHayes there is no gold hardware, thats his own signature one, first one to be exact, he wanted it to look just like Stevie's. If you look up Lenny/Man on The Side you can see it too. he isnt using Stevie's

  • @YolondaHayes I think you may be wrong. I was just playing both the John Mayer and SRV Signature a few days ago. They look very similar but I don't see any gold hardware, nor do I see the SRV engraved in the pickguard. That may just be the John Mayer signature but why do we care?

  • its actually the SRV strat...

  • no that one's his. the srv one, that he changed the pick guard on, has gold hardware.

  • During the solo, you can se the gold, and the lefty tremolo. it is the SRV strat.

  • @RubyTuesday93 i would say it is...

  • i was at this show... he seemed awfully spacey and goofy that night... think he was high?... he had an awesome night for solos... crossroads was fantastic

  • i cant get enough of Cover in Rain, such a great song. i was so jealous that pittsburgh got it!! and man on the side! what a great setlist they had

  • i knew they were playing heart of life cause they practiced it during soundcheck. My two friends and me got to the concert 6 hours early and watched the band soundcheck and mayer jog around the venue. It was awesome.

  • I knew it would be Covered In Rain when he brought out that guitar. That guitar has only been getting played during CIR and Heart of Life. He also played Heart of Life that night, a song I didn't think would make it on this tour.

  • Dude that is sooo sick! That has to be the best Solo he has ever played on that tune! WOW! Great video, what an awesome tour!

  • that was awesome
