  • Nice work. Have you heard Terry Plumeri's Blue In Green recording?

  • @mimsim772 Yup, I'm a big fan of his.

  • damn!

  • I actually can't stop watching this...

  • Jamey Aebersold play-alongs are great, right? I love 'em.

  • how long have you been playing for?

  • @jppjirojpp 6 years. Started playing in jazz band my senior year of high school and my jazz teacher in college got me into classical music.

  • @emilioguarino Omg dude! i started playing in my jazz band in highschool my junior year, now im in my senior year! Class of 2012 ;) good job on the tune!

  • Beatiful sound. If only my intonation was that good in the upper registers.

I like it how you used the (french?) technique of holding the bow. Your work is definitely a success!

  • @YourLocalShogun Thanks. I actually play german bow (underhanded grip). I have more intonation problems in the middle of the bass around the crook.

  • Very nice! I'm way into arco solos too, which is mostly what I've been practicing for a while now. I noticed some things with your thumb position and I'd like some advice if you wouldn't mind- Granted you're improvising, but I noticed you used mostly three fingers in thumb position and not very much thumb. I HATE using my thumb. I've worked out positions and shifts with three fingers. Do you have any specific method to doing that? Thanks! Also, your intonation is great!

  • @RyRobb813 Thanks. I study Simandl-based technique and recommend it highly. Between that and studying the classical solo repertoire you'll learn a lot about how to properly used your thumb.

Also, I just had a video recorded of me playing some solo Bach that demonstrates more refined bass technique. It should be up on YouTube within a month or so.

  • Nice, but your phrasing is a little stiff. You could also use some harmonic work. Try listening to Michael Moore, a real bass master, especially with the bow......

  • @stanleydreamer I'm a big fan of Michael Moore! Most of my senior year in college was spent working on transcriptions of him or Red Mitchell. Their phrasing and intonation is AMAZING.

  • You say you have been playing Arco for a "while"?!! Well, It sounds like you have been playing Arco for a long long while!

Very good playing! Great articulation and intonation. I like your judicial use of vibrato too. You are such a good player, it shows other bass players that one does not necessarily need a lot of vibrato to make the bass "sing". Love to hear more from you!!

  • @MindSweep43 Thanks man! Just trying to find my own thing, you know?

  • Man the playing is very very nice, but i got really amazed by your bass sound.

    Good job

  • Enjoyed the solo and your musicality. You should drop the bass line in BIAB since usually it won't be there, though; just piano and drums.

  • amazing! your intonation is perfect.
