this is the kind of stuff that says we should wind back the clock,,throw out every decission and law created since Bush jr started having an opinion..and possibly alittle before him.. Our military should make him/them tell us the truth about what the hell has been going on behind close doors here in our country USA... maybe this kind of justice is why they really want to close guantonamo.. and I don't buy the fake photos of cruelity to the terrorist that poped up a while back either. war munger

This Turley clown is full of shit! Our rights can not be taken or lost - only violated. Claims that any part of the Constitution can be removed without an Amendment being passed by Congress is a lie. They want us to think we have lost our rights, so we won't defend them. Don't let them trick you. Laws conflicting with the Constitution are illegal and void. This Turley bastard is a fraud.
If you don't object to your rights being violated, then you may as well encourage it. Think in the long term. By raising hell with a person for violating your rights, your are discouraging that person from making a habit of it or doing the same others. Why should a person stop if you just allow them to take advantage of you? Make violating your rights more trouble than it is worth, and it will happen less often. That is why.
Ah i see, you worded it weird. But I think Turley wants us to try and fight for our freedoms back. You guys have the same goal. You say our rights have been violated we should fight this. He's saying, our rights have been revoked, we must fight this.
Yeah I guess I'm hard to understand sometimes, but the point is that our rights can not be revoked. We did not receive them from the government or our Constitution. We were born with them. They were granted to us by God. They can not be taken any other people - only violated. Of course convincing us that we have lost them would make violating them much easier.
Bush's dictatorial powers of arrest and imprisonment are only part of an unprecedented expansion of militarized state power into every aspect of American life, coupled with an unprecedented level of secrecy surrounding government activity. These changes are meant to be permanent--and they are meant to remain under the control of the Bush Regime and likeminded successors.
It is absurd to believe that Bush, Cheney and the rest of the junta are constructing this vast machinery of dominance only to risk turning it over to any political adversary who genuinely opposed empire, plutocracy and rule by a privileged elite.
It is equally absurd to believe that these new, unconstrained powers will not be abused. The very fact of their assertion is itself an abuse, a perversion of the freedoms that Bush has sworn--falsely--to uphold. They are a far greater threat to the foundations of American liberty than even the most horrendous attack by murderous criminals.
No foreign terrorist can strip the entire American system of its basic freedoms--the inviolability of the citizen, the right to due process, the constitutional separation of powers, the people's right to know what their government is doing in their name.
Only an American tyrant can do that. And he is doing it, day by day.
soldiers die because these soldiers' citizens, mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, and families let it happen. Citizens of America should know that we have the power to stop these corrupt leaders from sending these soldiers to war.
I am concerned that Bush is either a spoled brat that just wants his way or he really is a dictator subverting the Constitution with his executive tyranny.
the constitution was written by great people trying to create a free and fair system for every good and decent person. they are rolling over in their graves because we have leaders who are the exact opposite and citizens who either don't care or don't understand. which is it?
this is not trivial, nor can it wait. so what is going on?

Whats the point on protecting something that can be "violated" at will?
