  • When exactly should you take the photo? That's what confuses me, even though I've never attempted to take a light painting photo, that's one of the things that's holding me back because I don't know when to take the picture to capture the actually light painting. Could you help me out with that?

  • @soontobepopstar97 When? At night time, of course!

  • @PhotoExtremist Alright, thanks! And also, I tried to 'Light Paint' using rope lights like you did but it didn't turn out like an orb (it kinda looked like a messy blob), could you give me some tips or advice? :P

  • @soontobepopstar97 mine did too at first. you need to do it a bunch to get it down. try experimenting by adding more weight on the end.. using different wire maybe... etc... review this video carefully, etc

  • How do you get yourself invisible, in that circle of colors? Btw your videos are amazing keep going!

  • YOU RULE! Been Watching your tutorials all day long :D

Thnks for sharing all your work and knowledge!

  • im a beginner and Im so curious on how you got the picture @3:52? like the freeze motion.

  • how do u get the focus in? all my outdoor orbs come in blurry. do u focus on lights from a distance then take pic? or am i missing some thing. allmost all my indoor ones come in clear

  • @tallicafan85 Yes, focusing on a light (I like to place a flashlight on the ground wherever i want to focus, and then face the flashlight to the camera) and focus on that. Then switch to manual focus, turn off the light, and you will be all set

  • @PhotoExtremist i guess my camera is different. i got the olympus pen and iso only goes down to 200. orbs come in clear when 3 ft away but further out blurry. tried my friends nikon compact and came out good with same setings. still new to this only started 1 months ago

  • How do you take long exposure shots with a canon 60d?

  • @extraMAYYO Same with any DSLR you use: Just increase the shutter speed to several seconds, and the picture will be taken for amount of time you dialed into your camera.

  • how do you make it so your not in the orb? ( hahah just kidding)

  • @scubaviper21 HA! I was about to just pass over this comment, but then laughed when I finished reading it completely

  • im still trying to figure out why some come in clear and some blurry. im using a olympus pen E-PL1.

  • i am canon product specialists i never ever saw a photo grapher like you god bless you bro,

  • How do you do this without you getting in the picture?

  • @itsmeAnneV You won't show up because you are in motion and are not illuminated like the LEDs are.

  • How do you do this without getting into the picture?

  • @hoodzipper You won't show up because you are in motion and are not illuminated like the LEDs are.

  • dude u never explained how to do the orb... all you said was spin the lights around. o.o what do i do with my camera to get the orb? or how to edit it?????????????

  • @itsnathaaanxD need slr camera. u spin light like he said in one spot, u go testing out shutter speeds from 3 secs tp 30 secs with iso 200. takes lots of practice. im gettin them almost perfect

  • @tallicafan85 thanks bro!

  • Great video, but I have one question:

How do you make it so that you are not in the picture?

  • @Killer91109 You won't show up because you are in motion and are not illuminated like the LEDs are.

  • i think you used a stick or similar with a single light possible led on the end and the rest of the trick with a long exposure and spinning your wrist to get the motion :)..... ive done the same lol.....nice vid though

  • Did you attach multiple golden LEDs to extended drill ( a drill with a piece of wood duck taped too it) and then turn on the drill so it would wrap around it and make the circles smaller and smaller?

  • Hey, think i can use glow sticks with rope and get good results?

  • @erikzuffa61 It is possible but the glow stick will have to be very very bright. Try it though. You may find that you will need to open the lens aperture or raise the ISO number in order to make the photo come out brighter.

  • i didnt watch the video yet but i know already im going to love it :) <3

  • Hi, I was wondering how you got that ribbon-like effect for the picture at 3:51 . What light painting technique is that?

  • Yellow glow sticks on a string for the multiple orb shot in the road : D

  • how long was your exposure for the orbs? Thanks! I got your ebook last night & was awake reading it till 5:00am! Great! I also wrote you an email with the same Q, so either one can be replied to please. Congratulations on your work & vast improvement in your videos

  • @nazaretd Nice - 30-60 seconds

  • where do you get these lights or some LED's like it?

  • Can you do it all in one shot!

    Greets

    LUM ONE

    THE ONE SHOT AND ONLY

  • this is awesome

  • Photoextremist how do you do the red light patterns at 3:50? thanks

  • Some Single LED lights on a string and spinning them around.

    Already got the ebook.

    :)

  • How are you not in the picture???

  • Ho la hoop?

  • Thank you so much!..this was exactly what i needed to know to start making my own orbs!!

  • It in a horizontal motion?

  • Did u use a flashlight and spin ir

  • Hello photoextremist. I love your videos. I woud like your opinion on something. I have the chance to buy a set of filters (22 cokin filters and 3 mounts) for 90 euro. Do you know cokin? Is this worth it? Thanks!

  • @Ben231189 I have no experience using Cokin filters but I hear they are good. 22 filters for 90 euros sounds like a steal to me, but then again I don't use many filters so I don't know if these are high quality ones or not.

  • can you teach me to get picture at 3:50?

  • i think that pic was made by photoshop after each circle you just added the circles to the pic using photoshop

  • multiplicity for the multiple orbs ?

  • If I Had to guess i would say you attached the lights to a swing ball pole (totem tennis) . Awesome video's.

  • Cool....

  • Dude, really good videos! Very engaging and highly educational!

  • A regular led tied to a rope and started spining from above your head and down to your legs... Score!

  • they are a lot cheaper on eBay ebay.com/i.html?rt=nc&LH_BIN=1&_nkw=LED+BATTERY+power+String&_clu=2&_fcid=1&_localstpos=98092&_stpos=98092&_trksid=p3286.c0.m301&gbr=1

  • LED Flashing spinning ballya know the toy.....

  • Can you get your ebook on the IBook store

  • A huulahoop ting with leds on?

  • The orbs were made by a toy that has a sphere on top and a figure in the middle with a bunch of lights going around it. you push a button and it spins. Do a Google image search of spinning light toy for a picture.

  • Sweet! What are fairy lights?

  • @MediaAde Fairy lights, string lights, and Christmas lights are all the same thing - They are just LEDs attached throughout a cord.

  • You used to be very awkward/shy in your older videos, looks like you became more open or something xP!

Not bagging on your or anything!

  • @pimpjuice8921573 hah thanks man! and yes if you look at any youtube account, sometimes you will see that the older videos are really weird but after a while they start to get the hang of things - i still have a long way to go IMO :)

  • @PhotoExtremist You're on the right track! I enjoy the vids, so keep it up! Especially lightpainting ones :)

  • @PhotoExtremist How did you make yourself visible at 3:48? I know you said flash freeze but what exactly is that? Is it possible with a entry level nikon d3100.

2nd question: Can you do a tutorial on the ghost effect..disappearing/faded effect? You have the best tutorials!

  • honey comb sticks

  • Great tutorial!!! And I loved your book!

  • How do you do this without getting yourself in the picture.

    Kind regards

  • @hikinguphigh The reason you don't show up in the picture is because you are not lit up like the LEDs are, and you are in constant motion. The landscape is visible because it is up by the moon, however the person isn't because they are constantly moving. If you were still, you would show up in the photograph.

It's the same thing when you look at a long exposure of traffic at night, you can see the light trails of the cars (and the roads), but not the car itself.

  • @PhotoExtremist lit up* by the moon

  • @PhotoExtremist thank you for explaining that, im new at photography and going to start long exposure photos and always wondered about that

  • @hikinguphigh Longer exposures effectively make you "invisible" in the final product.

  • @hikinguphigh unless you have a lot of light on you and you stay in the same spot without moving for the entirety of the picture the camera won't really see you very well. the only way you'll realize this if you just trust you won't and go out and take the pictures anyway and experiment and have fun with it. it really is the best way to learn photography in my opinion .trying new things and experimenting

  • @hikinguphigh You won't show up because you are in motion and are not illuminated like the LEDs are.

  • Thos led keyrings

  • I think it is faeries. ❀◕‿◕❀

  • could you link me to your deviant page please :) and i think you where using a C shaped wire with Led's and just spun it lightly near the floor then lifted it up and spun abit wider and then got smaller when you neared the top of the orb

  • @zARCADEz yep, my user name on deviantart is "Vlue" . it was a hula hoop with fairy light LEDs on it actually, mikee1s got it :)

  • hula hoop w/ led`s ?

  • @mikee1s You got it! That's the answer I was looking for. Hula hoop with LEDs attached to it.

  • @PhotoExtremist Nice, LOL is the first time I won something on the Internet hahahaha

  • @mikee1s this is my first time doing a give-away haha

  • for the final shot you used some sort of solid C shaped wire with 8 leds and spun it one time :)

  • did you use a semicircle with leds ?

  • its hard to explain for the photo u wanted us to guess but i'll try

for the guessing light orbs the technique is u dangled/spin the LED from bottom to top while reducing the diameter at the bottom and the top and increasing the diameter of the circles in the middle....

the material is 1 LED and a short wire i guess

  • Comment removed

  • for multiple orbs you are using a straight wire with led`s from top to bottom and holding by the top you are spinning them ?

  • @Oscarius87 Close... ;)

  • i saw this photo on deviantart :D

your tutorials are super easy and cool

i hope you'll continue making them in the future! :DD
