Great acting in this scene. One of the best TV programs of all time

What really gets me (well, ONE of the things) is how much Peter is a part of the Ballyk community, by "The Reckoning". He's shifted from priest to friend (though he did that quite early on) and he looks like any other babysitter, except that he'll never have a child of his own. He fits in perfectly, but he's alone.

And he borrows the Irish accent at times ("Ah, go ahn" and in response to Assumpta, "Am I?") Is this a sign of Ballyk being 'home'? Which makes the coming tragedy all the worse?

I love this moment but it makes me cry coz in the whole three series this is the closest Peter gets to kissing her before she gets electrocuted and dies :'(

Peter's age and the years it takes to become a priest almost certainly mean he's a virgin and has probably never had physical intimacy with a woman. His hesitation before really kissing her neck speaks volumes. To be rejected at that delicate moment is torturous. But Assumpta does the right thing. To continue -- making love to a priest in her best friends' home -- would damage them both and she can't and won't let herself be responsible for that, no matter how much she desires him.

It's an accurate analogy .... not really a "joke" per se. The writer did a great job getting the feeling across of what it is like for Peter. And Stephen and Dervla did a brilliant job with this moment.

I actually have to say that I'm impressed that they made sure he kept his moral standards through to the end. Regardless of how many "opportunities" arise between him and Assumpta. It's refreshing. And at the same time it is so easy to see how much they love each other. It makes the ending truly heartbreaking!

Also, I'm curious to knew when the crying ended and kissing because. Peter had the waterworks going so I bet her neck was all kinds of wet.

She resisted because she is a woman with integrity. Even though Assumta is not fond of the church, she knows that Peter is a good priest. Breaking preastly vows for a moment of passion is not a thing easily done.

Wow. The way he tells the Polar Bear story is so heart wrenching. This scene is the most memorable of all the BallyK "Peter & Assumpta" storylines for me. While I disagree; I'm glad they didn't go further since 1. She's still married, ahem, & 2. He's still a priest; I must admit it would have been nice to see another season or two of them slowly working things out in a good way. BUT! the changes to the series after they left were COMPLETELY & WITH TOTAL SURPRISE just as good to watch! Who knew?

This is my favorite scene between Peter and Assumpta. The man has the most beautiful green eyes I have ever seen. You just KNOW he would be a fantastic lover to her. So sexy, so poignant, so sad. Stephen T is a great actor. This was his defining role.
