Man, i think the reason they got butchered so badly is because they didn't have anything EXCEPT infantry. Where the fuck is the artillery, air support? Mechs atleast? They should have some power armor suits that drop in. And atleast have weapons that can do fucking damage to something. It takes 5 guys to take out one bug. Bwaha.

When there is a small number of an enemy, they are hard to defeat to show how dangerous they are, when there are many of them it's easy so you can have a heroic battle scene with the protagonists defeanding themselves against a vast hordes of enemies.

The movie missed the point of the book. Giant rampaging bugs is so cliche, the should have kept the powered suits and beam-gun-toting arachnids from the novel.
