Actually I love the 3 Ave Marias I heard...Schubert, Bach-Gonoud and Caccinni...They are all breathtaking, reflective and melancholy in their own ways...
The singularly best Christmas ever. Also have seen the two wonderful TV Christmas shows with Kristy and Gene Kelly. They really should be released to the public. They are so much fun to watch:)
I finally got to hear Karen say they had "cut" both versions of Ave Maria, but then she says they didn't do the Schubert version afterall...did they or didn't they? My guess is NO! Best part is we get to hear the original Ave Maria without the addition of choir, which drowns out the exquisite arrangement. Thank you, AKindOfHush for posting this entire interview; I had only read the transcripts.
they did but they did not include the Schubert version. I agree with Karen that Gonoud's version has a touch of class and I add that it is more heavenly than Schubert's.
@NylonThread I'm wondering if she meant they "cut" work leads of both versions, but only completed the Bach/Gounod one. If that's the case, I'd still love to hear the Schubert version (if it exists).
