Jared, you should put a link annotation at the end of the video to Part 2. It seemed like you alluded to such an annotation, but you never put one up.
Jared you should get a 18-55 and shoot with that on the D7000 just for fun and see what you could do with your knowledge and experience, just show you really can do with a simple kit lens that comes with your camera. I don't know about you or others, but I think it would be inspiring.
@TheCaptainSiphilas If you switch from Canon to Nikon, you'll have to also buy more lenses on top of buying a new body. If you do decide to go down that road, you can get a Nikon D200 second hand for pretty cheap and the 5 FPS burst rate should do you good. Don't go out and blow all of your money on a body, save it for a lens because that's where you get your image quality.
@TheCaptainSiphilas What you can do is... go for a higher level DSLR... whether Canon or Nikon... get a Canon 7D... or 60D if you cant go that far in terms of price... switching from one brand to the other won't help if you will still get an entry level DSLR....
Hint, instead of going into manual - save time by using exposure compensation :)
Im forever using spot metering, and can get a pretty good judgement if the cameras going to over/underexpose at the shutter speed its telling me, so I just quickly throw in some compensation, works every time ;)
Very very smart. I really learnt something. I never ever learnt from the camera by assessing the aperture priority mode and then get into manual and expose the compensation. Really great.
So, when you go to manual you ignore the meter right? This system works great, but it is a little slow for something like a wedding. And if you have a mid day wedding for example, how do you determine your exposure and how you change them? you change exposure for every shot?
@kauxkaux I tend to run in aperture priority, sometimes the camera picks a shutter speed that is too slow and makes the image too bright. I look at the shutter speed it chose and flip to manual mode setting the shutter speed to half the value the camera picked.
i would think to shoot with flash to fill in shadows. Ive learned from people that its better to use a flash in the day and not use it as much at night
thank you so much! this really helped! Now I can shoot portrait photos without that blazing sun coming through my lens and making everything black! thanks again Jared! :D
I used to shoot RAW. My computer got blown up by a lightning strike the other day and my laptop can't handle Lightroom 3 processing, so it's back to JPEG for now. :(
Great video. One thing I've really noticed is when you film outside, your video is over exposed and over saturated. What do you film it with? If it's another DSLR, I know you can do better than that :P
@lighto999 Live view on pretty much any camera at the moment SUCKS for adjusting exposure. The only good thing about is is for adjusting composition on a tripod or at a super low angle. Also a lot of video is done in "Live View" on Nikon's and other cameras.
Good video Jared. However it starts a difficult subject - spot metering. Users should be aware that you have to look at the light reflected off whatever you are spot metering and decide where you want that tone to lie in your exposure. The camera is gonna try and put that as "middle grey" or most of the time so you may have to bias your meter either way. If what you are spot metering is not middle grey your intended exposure may not come out as you would expect.
first to rate? hmmm. jokes. Jared I really appreciate the amount of effort you put in to your videos and edits plus I've learn a lot from them . You convinced me to shoot RAW at all times. Keep up the good job man.

@JaredPolin not even an UV filter?
