I saw the aftermath of this fire and a little while after I found out that the DCFD actually rescued someone! I was in total shock (even watching this video I was scared for the guy)
awesome job on the ladder rescue to 3's, and for the non firefighters that may watch this read my fellow brothers and sisters are saying in these comments. You have to look at the picture as a whole, and include your safety, and your fellow firefighters safety in that picture.
Well first I would like to say thank you,but Harry and I were only a small part of that rescue. You can see what we are doing but inside that day there was quite a bit going on. The fire was blowing back on all the Brothers in the hallway and there were some issues with security gates in the stairwell too. So as much as Harry and I would love to take credit for the rescue, it was a TEAM effort and a job done well by ALL involved, not just us on the Tower Ladder!
Number one firefighter priority is SELF SAFETY. You cant just run into a burning building. you have to ASSESS the situation/problem before you can do ANYTHING. Think of it this way. What would trapped victims be doing, if the firefighters are dead or injured because they tried to rush in to help them..? Nice video though.
Firefighters are there to help people but we are not there to committ suicide! I still have to worry about my safety as well as all my other brother firefighters before worrying about entering a hostile enviornment. What good are dead firemen to a trapped citizen? Why would you think your or anyone elses life is more important than mine.
That was an unrealistic and selfish comment for you to make.
WoW this is a perfect examply of a rescue in dc those where smoe heros nice job jackjohn there was a fire 1 bloack from my hosue back in 05 adn the person didi not make it unfoutently but this was a great exampe of a rescye
Yeah I think we can all agree you weren't yelling that in a negitive manner... Other wise I bet some other choice of words, making this a R rated film, would have been said..haha
That was Tower Ladder 3 #2 Platoon. Firefighters Brian McAllister and Harry Saval in the bucket. Jackjohn...I hope your shouts to RUN were in support not of complaint. Have you ever tried to sprint wearing 75 pounds of protective gear? Thanks for posting this video.
oh and what r u yelling at the guys for to run they were gettin ready to go in...they had everything under control....they dont need u to tell them to run
This is the best video I ever shot . I was afraid he would jump or something worse fry. I could have helped him no other way then show how brave he was to stay put. Thanks DC Rescue # 3 Good job

no the first thing a firefighter should do is to check for trapped victims and if there are victims they need to rescue them
