I wanted to be a pscologist until i watched this video. To much time spent in college and uni. I want to live not spent a reasonable amount of time with my head in a book :P
@Healtheworldx its not thaaaat long. 4 + 2-3 years of schooling and then youll have the rest of your life to do your job. if you finish some other type of schooling you might start your career a few years earlier. but in the long run, not going to school for an extra 2 years wont really make a difference. plus most doctors go to school much much longer than psychologists because they handle with medical drugs. but this is just my opinion, plus i hear psychologists make good money.
So. To become a psychologist I have to get a bachelor's degree (4years), Take my GRE and go through graduate school in a specific course(+4years), After my doctorate I get PhD and become a psychologist?
Anyone know the specifics on this??? Someone help me out :D
@samsananda You have no idea what you are talking about. You are probably referring to a psychiatrist. Psychiatry is just as valid as psychology, both professions require 10+ years of education, something that you obviously LACK to be making such dipshit statements. Get real.
He sounds like he is reading from a script.. and can't remember his own lines. This doesn't sound good at all. I completely agree that wikipedia has better and more accurate information. I think at one point he says chronicle psychologist, and he means clinical psychologist. What a joke.
I ask in complete ernest. What's the hardest part of the job? Confidenciality? Keeping your mouth shut when you honestly object? Holding your temper with some of the more "difficult" clients? Do you get jaded by any of this? Do clients problems start to affect you personally? What if you can't help them? What about the trainwrecks? Whiners? Stubborn people? Stupid people? Embedded denial?
So yeah, I've got tons of questions before I go jumping into a career that I just seem to be talented in.
Psychologists can be Ph.D or Psy.D's and in some states they can prescribe medications. Also Not all programs require the GRE, though many APA programs do.
we need to be aware that some psychologists abuse their clients. dr john gournaris of minnesota is one example. stay away from him. he is also on national deaf academy's advisory board. we have heard a lot of bad news about him. the community remains blind to his behaviors. we need to be more aware of mental health and providers.

@samsananda If you had actually watched the video, psychologists cannot prescribe drugs. You are refering to a psychiatrist - disrespectfully.

You forgot PsyD. That focuses in clinical psych more than PhD programs do.

Do you not need a lot of experience to get on this course? You do in the UK.
