They should play more like Charlie Watts? That's a joke, right? That statement is either extremely funny, or the dumbest thing I've every heard. Whatever the case, this is a great clip
a friend of mine recently gave me a copy of Jo playing and talking about the history of jazz drums, effects, obscure names, etc. It's all great, but I still after it being in CD player for two weeks, I cannot believe the sound of his voice. It doesn't match the man's face at all to me. It's really weird...
I think Papa Jo had more chops than Buddy .... he was certainly more musical than Buddy ....not that drumming is a competition but we all know Buddy is the standard when it comes to soloing and what can be done on the drums in a jazz idiom ... for my taste Papa Jo is the greatest ever
Damn! He makes it look so easy and fun. Bless his joyful essence! Jo Jones, so glad you and I talked at Jim and Andy's in NYC back in June of 1973. I lucked out by being there at the right time. Thank you lord. Now...to honor his joy and finesse. John-Hans Melcher "theQuietDrummer"
I love this man! Great.
