The controller looks exactly like the 6 button genesis controller but the buttons are mapped differently than the genesis controller and all switched around, which makes no sense to me at all
I just got this and the nes side is slow and offsets the game! Ahh! I guess i'm stuck with the fc twin and it's worthless light gun. I would get the original system but i already have it and fixed it twice! It's now a display piece. I just wanted a console like this so i could collect all the old games and use all the peripherals! Argh!!!
Any idea if this will work on UK Pal tvs. I have S-Video and Composite available but the 60 to 50 mhz thing. There are UK sites that sell these but they have said out of stock for over a year. I could get one deliverd off ebay USA for £57 though.
@IsaacsLiam hey m8 just wondered if u got the console and if you'd recommend it? i know i need a usa to uk voltage adaptor, usa to uk plug adaptor and that it only plays ntsc games. but i'd really like to get one i've already got loads of ntsc games anyway i've just heard that there not to reliable. cheers
By the way the original SNES did output in S-Video with the correct cable. I purchased an 1st party S-Video cable that works with SNES and N64. Unfortunately the remodeled SNES Jr. lost the ability to output in S-Video...even with the cable.
oh yeah and those crap wireles controllers----throw them the fuck away! i played contra and you can't shoot that fast like half the speed! and you have to aim the damn controller to the sensor rip off!!
i got this crap! you can't play streets of rage 2 because it says it won't play north american or canadian version or some crap like that! but its the original american streets of rage2! man they can't perfect the biggest flaws!
I totally would've got this because it is overall better than the FC3. BUT it looks like utter shit. I went with the FC3 for 30 bucks. It looks way better.
can someone plzzz respond, i got the ting but only the snes slot works. i think im inserting the genises and nes games wrong because when i brought it to the store they got it to work
idk im thinking about buying one but i think i want the original systems ya know, just to say, "hey i have an NES" if i say "hey i have a Retron 3" everyone who isnt a hardcore gamer will be like, "what the fuck is that?" lol
He bud Nice work!! I'm going to buy one of this!! What was the name of that last game with the big brute on it? i rmember playign that as a kid but can't remember the title ?
Exactly!! I do not particularly give a shaved monkeys ball what a system looks like, Its how it functions that I really care about BUT even after that If the games are a fetid stinking afterbirth of pixel poo then a gold plated diamond encrusted turd, is still a turd! good review BTW thanks...
the color pallet is off because the new flat screens dont usually support composite so well and if you going to play nes, you go hardcore and bust out that old 80's era tv with a dial
@TravisJohnSmith You need an 80's TV, but definitely a standard Tv...I don't think it's a good idea to play these systems on a modern TV, I wouldn't do it at least because I KNOW it wouldn't look right...
@TravisJohnSmith What I meant to actually say was that you DON"T need a TV from the 80's, LCD's and plasmas and such have only been actually mainstream for 3 or 4 years and in some countries less...and people start talking about the TV's most of us used up until not too long ago as if they were "ancient".
I wouldn't be concerned about the color palettes, guys. It probably looks off because of how his HDTV's color and luminance is calibrated. He already made a huge error by saying the SNES didn't originally output S-video, when it ACTUALLY DOES, IN FACT, so I'm not concerned out the color. I think this guy is misinformed.
I just connected the s video to my tv and there is no sound. It works fine on composite cables but on s video no sound. How do I get the sound working?
I just got this, and I am going to return it. The main reason I got it was to play zapper games, and it doesn't work. I tried Duck Hunt and it hardly worked at all. And the sound is wrong on other games. I don't need this. The retroduo is so much better, it actually played the games properly. But since it doesn't support NES controllers, now I'll never be able to play Duck Hunt. Thanks a lot, whoever made this console. Don't buy it. It's crap.
@mrburke101 I tried 2 different zappers, one of which I know works because it worked on my NES. Has anyone else gotten zappers to work with this, yes or no?
@Ratmus1 Do You have an HD TV? I have heard that for some reason most HD TVs do not allow old light guns to be played on them. Most likely if you have the Retron 3 it is not the system it is your TV that makes the zappers not work. I think this is a bunch of crap in itself, but that is why my game room has an old school TV and not an HD TV. It makes it suck bad.
The original SNES DOES have s-video. I know, because I actually have one and it is hooked up via s-video. There was no s-video port on the back, but Nintendo made a s-video cable for it.
Are there any compatibility issues (like seen on retro duo, fc twin and fc 3 plus)? Does it work for every games? It doesn't run famicom games, right?
sweet! i've been wanting to get this, and since it plays super famicom games, i'm even more syced! now, after i get this, i'm gonna try and find a copy of super back to the future 2.
Are there any compatibility issues (like seen on retro duo and fc twin)? Does it work for every games? Even PAL snes games such as terranigma? It doesn't run famicom games, right?
i wanna re-buy an n64 (i only realized how stupid i was the day after i sold mine) but im not sure if any companies are going to come out with a console thatll play nes snes and n64 cartridges
@Jr4594 craigs list, ebay, or your local retro gaming store. i would recomend googling a retro gaming store in your area, you can make sure it works and you get a good price
I wish all the controller ports were on the front of the system. Also, unlike the Retro Duo and FC Twin, you can't play NES games with a SNES controller. So if you wanted to play Zelda 2 with SNES controllers, tough luck. Not only does the Retron3 play SFC games, It plays ALL MD games. Yes, even the later games that are coded to block imports. There is a switch in the back of the console next to the red white and yellow sockets for that feature. I'm even playing my Alien Soldier game on it now.
I read that they changed the mapping of the controller even with the official controller. Y = B, B = A, X = Y, and A = X. They rotated each button counter-clockwise on the official controllers. Could you confirm if this is true or not?
@dasreviews I agree here. of course there are official sega genesis wireless controllers that can be used. There's also adapters for Sega saturn controllers as well.
The font in this video screams Adobe Premiere! I've seen this console around and it looks pretty good. But I have the real deal so oh well lol. Cool video.
Nice review. Only thing i noticed wrong with the review, you said the original snes doesnt support s-video, that is false. The original snes did support s-video.
@iwanabrawl Out the box, I have never seen an actual dedicated S-Video port on the SNES. If your talking about S-video cables/AV Cables, then I would say that isn't real S video support as the cable back during the systems day was certainly not available by any means....

@dasreviews S-video cables work on the first model SNES without any modification to the system, so whether the cables were available with the system or not, I think that's "out of the box" enough for it to be s-video compatible. Not to mention that the image is much sharper on a model one SNES with s-video in comparison to composite.
