Corporations are in business to basically do two tasks only...and that is to create a demand for a service or product, and to also especially create HUGE wealth from the services and products they provide....nothing more or less soulless.
So if autos have more wear and tear there is more demand for replacement parts or new vehicles (reason why they EV1 was trashed...low wear and tear).
OIl companies are in bed with auto comp's. Biggest threat to greedy comp's. is an educated & informed consumer.

I have heard of a car whos engine was removed and replaced by a hydraulic motor driven by a small engine! The motor (hydraulic) drove the gearbox and the car for minimal cost!
Its still possible to get several times the mileage you currently have using technology such as Paul Pantones GEET device. I dont know how this car as able to get the high mileage. It sounds like a high temperature catalysis process was involved, which is what the GEET does using magnetics and plasma vortexes.
