i just played this drum set today and WOW WAS I DISSAPOINTED! GLADY I DIDNT BUY THIS. TO ANYONE WHO HASNT TRIED IT AND WANT TO BUY IT PLZ GO PLAY IT FIRST. the only eletronic drum kit i have ever played is the roland TD-4k and it was WAAAAYYY BEETTTER. ppl this drum kit is SHIT for its price wooooww
If your a sound guy how do you mix every piece in this kit indvidually , snare separate , kick separate and toms , i understand all the pieces goin to a sound module and then , you are stuck with a left and right send signal , unmm i dont like these things , nothing sounds like the reall thing ,
Finally got to sit behind one of these today. I had high hopes for this. It is a good concept, but a disappointment. I have a Roland TD-12 and was ready to switch. I like the look of regular drums, the ease of recording with digi drums and the fact that this was two kits in one. The heads are horrible and the cymbals are cheap. I hope they find a fix fast or this will be a huge failure. $3199 is outrageous for this.
i don't know about anybody else, but personally if i wanted an electric kit, i dont want it to be like an acoustic kit at all! the only thing that i would want on an electric kit that an acoustic kit has, is the way the sticks respond on the pads. i dont want an electric that will take up just as much room as an acoustic, the advantage of an electric kit shud be a small setup and controllable volume and loads of stupid sounds to mess around with, electric kits wont ever sound like acoustics.
i dont like e-kits but this could be a good thing for me due to sometimes we play live in a big open place..and sometimes in a bar or a restaurant and this could be a good thing to have...just change it to the triggers..and then to the standard heads...but it would be a lot of job...
Not bad. tried this at local music shop in Honolulu. There's a lot you still can't do. I don't think I'll be getting rid of mt Roland TD-20, which has more capabilities any time soon.
great, the module is the alesis dm10 module, painted red, and has pearl's name on it, and what about the e-classic cymbals, they're probably just the alesis surge cymbals that has the e-classic name on it too, but how come there is 2 of the modules, the extra pads need another module to play on it?
I have a roland td 10 and I know that my kit blows this one away. Anyone who knows anything about electronic drums knows that the cadillac of E-Drums are roland. Pearl is one of the best in the acoustic drum world but really pearl......dont mess up a good thing.
might be ok if you got rid of the red box and replaced it with a roland td 20 brain or you could just pass on this kit and get a roland or even a yamaha dx extreme 3 both would be better then this what the hell was pearl thinking
i used to respect pearl oh well they still make great acoustic drums
@crapyemails Don't like the kit either, but not an Alesis module. Pearl actually made it, which really dissapoints :( I agree with the heads as well. Cymbals feel weird too!
I have a little kit, beginner sort of thing. Called DevilDrums. I've been playing about 9 months now, and I got some new hardware for it, E.G double bass, new cymbals, spare skins. (just in case). And I can honestly say, I would prefer my, reliable, little acoustic kit that this. I think they little keyboard thing, or what ever it is that you use to fuckin, change the sound, would just piss me right off after a while. BUY AN ACOUSTIC!! NOT AN IMITATION!!!
Thats what i thought. lol. they mentioned every aspect of the kit. "real clamps... blah, blah, blah". but they never mentioned the price. SO I think, the answer to your question. EXPENSIVE!
They emphasize 128MB of RAM? Maybe because that kind of RAM is rare nowadays :) If I want something that looks like real drums, I'll get a REAL one! For eDrums, I still like the portability of Roland Vdrums.
if you can put skin's on this kit can you just buy the electronic pads and put them on a acoustic kit? like my old pearl kit, it would save money for people.
Again, another great example of Pearl taking someone elses idea and claiming it as their own. This is not the first electronic kit that looks like an acoustic kit, as the video claims. A company called Boom Theory has already invented this type of drumset. Pearl is like the John Williams of the Drumset world. Google the words Boom Theory Spacemuffins and you will see.
I'm sorry. I'm a HUGE Pearl fan, but this is kinda stupid. Roland has electronic drums on lock, and I don't even like electric kits. Honestly, I would buy it, take the electronic pads off, slap some evans heads and go to work! ( OR, just like aaronalwines said, I'll just get the Pearl MCX for much cheaper).
im not really sold on this kit yet i think i'll have to play one to see it seems as though Roland's module blows this thing out of the water and have you noticed that if you want to play more than just a five piece with two cymbals you need a whole other module by the time you get all that shit it's probaly more expensive than the roland with less features
IMHO as an electronic drum expert, I played the kit at NAMM and it isn't bad... it's just a LOT of different things...
It's electronic, it's virtual, it's acoustic, it's blah blah... but it just doesn't hit the mark for any of these. It isn't a pure representation of any one of these things... I wish they would have consulted someone before dumping their funds into it... AHH!
yea, in the product video they sounded less that desirable, and i'd say a little better in this video. they look great, and i like the innovation, but bottom line is sound, and they just don't compare and sing like a certain other company that often leads the way in electronic percussion.
The thing about these drums is you can take the electronic pads off of the drums, and put real heads on them. So they can be acoustic drums as well.. 2 kits for the price of one.
The sounds themselves sound great! But...Rolls and quick strokes get jumbled up because on real drums every note is NEVER the same. In samples they might use a high rate of note velocities, but you're gonna end up using the same ones over and over. Trust me, I've done my share of metal music and the rolls still sound so unreal.
@theDrumkilla With velocity layers set to unlimitied I don't have any machine gunning at all. You will never the same sample repeat itself. I'd say its as real as you can get next to having a real drum.

Anyone actually heard one of these used as a conventional drumkit? I bet its probably better electronically.
Also... why the hell is this literally HALF the cost of a ROland TD-20 kit?! (which I have)

i like this drum kit looks better than the roland td 20kx
jellyboy123 1 year ago
the point of an electric kit is that it's quiet AND takes up little space. right, so that makes this shit.
and he says it sounds like a real kit, does that hi-hat sound like any of you guys hats? no, didn't think so.
and 128MB thats like...nothing
ffs sake pearl just leave it to Roland, even yamaha are beginning to back off

cymbals are CR**..

the only nice part are the heads/triggers.
