  • beautiful bike dude.

  • Glad to see someone build a bike without a fat ass tire. The 19 looks good. The front fender is sharp also. Thanks for sharing.

  • Ironheads are some of the baddest looking bikes around in a rigid frame. I see you had a Dallas band playing, are you in the DFW area? If so I may need some guidence with my Triumph. Lover her but she starting to look tired. Keep up the good work and hey...you still got those T bars?

  • Hell Yeah!!

  • Good job dude. Looks sharp. You made it your own. Did something similar with my 84 but not nearly as much work. Sweet.

  • love that skiny shot looks super cool and fast... awesome work thanks for sharing . hello from mexicali mexico

  • how was rewiring? was it a bith?

  • Wow sick transformation love the ride and the new body build for it wow :o

  • Cool video, music is down right terrible and gave me a headache.

  • @arcademod

I picked up the weld-on from one of the Ebay shops. It's a Santee and it was around $150. It's also in the J&P catalog.

  • Man, Your bike is amazing. I've had and built big twins, and sportsters and must say that I find "due to my shortness" that sportsters are so much more fun and enjoyable to ride. Thank you for inspireing a new build for me. I realy like what you've done and the only thing I might change on your work would be to skirt the fenders and go drag or beach bars. But that's just "my" style, you built what you like and that's what makes it yours. AWSOME to see the craft is still living.

  • Love the bike. Do you have any recent vids of it on the road? Or better yet, any new projects? That ironhead rocks!

  • Awesome vid awesome bike !

  • Nice job bro ! like it, mostly cause it aint stockugly anymore :-)

  • Woah! Very nice, looks like a fighter plane!!!

  • Thats a amazing bike :) Is it A kick start?

  • Baddass I'm in cali come rebuild my sporty iron head

  • still ugly

  • Awesome bike, Great job.

I love these old shovel Bikes.

  • It took you a year to make? Wow! Honestly that's not too bad considering guys can sometimes spend several years working on their choppers! Very nice work dude.

  • Looks awesome, I'm hoping to get started on my bobber porject next year, I'd love to have an ironhead frame to start with... this gave me some good ideas. I really like what you did for the switchbox. Excellent work!

  • Great work dude! wish I knew how to do that to any bike .. manning them up! props

  • very noce =]

  • name of the song?

  • @AntiVenomFangX

3 songs: Thomas Jefferson, Scary Picture Show, and Book of the Dead.

  • sick. ive got a 1980 xls and im headed in the same direction like a black lacquer skinny bike. looks sick with the primer i would leave it like that!

way to match the stagger with your vid too those guys rule.

  • Hell yes Man!! Hell yes!! Bobbers are sick, I hate seeing people chop up old bikes and have ridiculous Chrome everywhere and 70degrees of rake, Your bike is Sick. I'm trying to save money for an old shovel or ironhead to build a bobber in memory of my little brother, sadly he was killed in a motorcycle wreck a few years ago and forever we talked about building something old school together, now its up to me. Your bike is Badass, good job on it man. Keep the Ride alive!

  • @Dystractyd Good luck with the build dude

  • i dont have a rebound spring on my 74 ironhead, it doesnt show one in the manual also

how did you determine to remove 3 inches?

    rick

    thanks for for the help

  • @richardhaus

I'm not sure about the springs on a '74. My forks are actually '84-'86 tubes in '73-'77 trees (35mm with 7/8" top stem bearing). And I got the Timken neck

kit to get rid of the ball bearings. As for the 3" drop, it was just based on how much lower the new frame setup sat from the ground. I built a little box for the frame to sit on and that's how I took all my measurements, and also how I found out that a 16" rear tire would practically have the frame on the ground.

  • @richardhaus

    (continued)

And speaking of frames, I'm not sure if there are a lot of problems with Santee weld-on rigids, but the first one I got was crooked and the welds were'nt finished on the bottom cross piece. I sent it back to the Ebay seller who sent me a good one. I bolted it up, clamped, checked for straightness and all, then found that it had maybe an inch of ground clearance with a 16" tire. That's part of why I have the tall rear tire, but I think it looks cool anyway.

  • good man, thanx for caring

  • blasphemy, couldn't watch past the choped frame,oh well it's yours, is this a great country or what

  • @41alone

Glad you liked it. I kept my numbers matching titled frame (that goes with this engine) intact. The frame I chopped for this little experiment had long been separated from its rightful engine and any paperwork. Yeah, still chopping a stock frame, but thought I'd at least explain.

  • YEA MAN!!!! keep that old metal alive and ride it! stock frames on virtually every bike SUCK!!! good work, dude. i like seeing this kind of stuff. good music too. can't stand no more dust in the wind or born to be wild on these vids no more. hope ta catch you riding around sometime. i'm sorta in that dallas area.

  • @HeatherHell666

Thanks! The band is now called Dog Company and they still play shows, mostly in Dallas.

  • i'm in the process of building a 74 ironhead bobber, how did you shorten the front forks?

  • @richardhaus

I cut 3" from the main springs and added a 3" sleeve on the rebound springs. If you're going to do it please be sure to have the shop manual and fully understand how to do it or it can be disappointing.

  • nice scoot where did you get the remote resivour for the front brake, and how well do the internal cables work in the Z bars? Im gona steal some of your ideas for my 80' sporty.

  • @jimbodean14

Thanks. The reservoir is a kelsey-hayes style master cylinder (for rear brakes) found in any aftermarket catalog like Custom Chrome or Jireh. I've got no cables in the bars, but there is wiring (tricky to pull through the Zs) for the starter, horn, and hi/low beam.

  • hope u never painted it. the unfinished look is much better

  • @rigimp

Still in primer. Sadly I haven't had much time to play with it this year. Too busy with work.

  • That's one kick ass bike.

  • @reverandmikey

    Thanks!

  • damn..alot of hard work but now u got one bad ass fuckin bike.

  • @shibby189 I had to buy a set of spokes for a big twin 19" wheel and run a threading die to thread them about 3/8" more. If I had to do it again, I would just go with the 18" rim ,but I was stubborn and wanted a 19/19 bike this time.

  • Thanks for all the comments. To answer a few questions, they are are 1" bars I got from a friend, and all the music is from my friend's band The Staggers, which now work under the name Dog Company.

  • Credit is due here. Sweet project. Great slides. Top result.

  • thanks for such a great video ...... 1 year eh ........ must be nice hahahahah ive been playin around with mine for 6 yrs now hahahah .

i put up a video of it on my channel .

  • who is the last song by?

  • Dude those handle bars are amazing! Are they 1 inch bars or 7/8th's? Where'd ya get em?

  • Comment removed

  • it looks way god damn better. good job.

  • where did you get the rewiring kit for your wheel??

  • XL 250 at :18!!!! Hell yeah!

  • Bike looks great! the music sucks..

  • How do you compare the handling before and now?

  • The handling is great on good streets. I think the rigid is better as far as not having that loose bouncy feeling in corners that can come from the rear shocks and the narrow swingarm on old sportsters. The rigid is not ideal for potholes and railroad tracks, so I stand on the footpegs.

  • nice buddy!

  • Would love to hear it. Sick pipes!

  • very nice work!!!!

    cheers from germany

  • Dam that tings MEAN.

  • how bad was it to take the motor out of the frame? me and my dad have to rebuild his 83 ironhead

  • It's fairly hard. The engine weighs 200 pounds and it has to go in at an angle.

  • oh ok thanx

  • realy nice.. im welding the hardtail on next week ;)

  • Nice. Inspirational.

  • Great ironhead build. Lots of fab work. You're the real thing, man!

  • looking good machine bro

  • Nice man. You really did a beautiful job. I've got a '76 and i'm thinking about doing what you did. Very nice. :)

  • This is one of the coolest bobbers I have ever seen! You took a sportster and made it really cool, on a budget! that takes alot more talent then Joe smith laying $13,000 down for a dime a dozen harley.

  • Thanks, I really appreciate it.

  • dude the bike is awsome.. but the video fucking sucks balls.

the words arent on ther long enough and the music sucks fat hairy balls

  • Ok, you're right on the words not being on there long enough. But if you don't like the music, well, sorry I didn't make the video to meet your needs. Thanks for watching.

  • really like the work you have done, great video you gave me some good ideas for my oun bike thanks from greece.

  • That was cool!

  • Cool as fuck. Gotta love the Ironheads. Great Vid!

  • nice bike

  • fucking gnarly dude! tunes (which btw sounds a little like danzig on vocals) and a complete videography of your mods. well fucking done!

  • Rad video, killer music, what more could a fella ask for?

  • Sweet build the 2ndbars man need I say, K all & all 1 suggestion. Get the spin off filter from racing Camero app mount were the Regulater goes the clearance is wrong were ya got it. leave the frame in yah face green is perfect. Between the lanes bra.

  • Yep, on your own,so lay the motor on its side, and lower the frame down over it.

    Easey-peasey, saves the back too!

I have even stripped a bike to do an engine swap that way.

  • sweet ......getin ready to do the same to a 70 .....just like u gotta make it presentable 4 the season then gonna get 2 work...ur bob looks killer

  • That's completely righteous. Nice iron and good work. Thanks for subscribing. Awesome.... !

  • Dude, you did a awsome job on that. You got a vid of it running? Check out my vids, one of before and one of after. Dig the music, too.

  • i love videos like this...it makes you appreciate the bike alot more knowing all the work that went into it.....i like it.

  • exactly and it shows someone actually built it not just send it off to the shop

  • man, wow! Your bike is pretty bad ass. Great job showing what all it took.

  • And I think the weld-on looks 10 times better than a bolt-on, but some people would rather not cut up a frame, and have the chance to go back to a swingarm some day.

  • I'm now using the stock pipes on my bike. i was thinking of switching them to the straight flow type. people told me that i will lose the low end pull. is that true ? will i have a better top end power with teh stright flow ?

  • Thanks coonwody. That weld-on lengthens the wheelbase about 4 inches. I ended up with 118 links, I think, so buy the 120 link chain and cut from there. That is with a 23 tooth front sprocket. If you run a 19 or 20 tooth spocket on your tranny then you'll probably be at 116 links. There's not a lot of chain adjustment on the santee because the slot where the anchor pin goes isn't very long. You get about 1 inch to adjust. I trimmed down the adjuster screw tubes too.

  • Hey nice job bro. Looks great. I want to put the sante ridged on my bike. how much did it lengthen the rear. how much did you have to lengthen the chain. would you recomend the bolt on ridged. thank you.
