I sort of smudged lines all going in the same directions then i went back down (like i tiny bit like scribbles in one direction) with the bigger parts, i'd do little circles to smudge it in to see what it will look like (to see if i need more black etc.) and then i will do the line scribble things.
Sorry if i didn't explain it well, it is kinda hard to explain xD Hope it helped you though!
Hii :) i just filled the shape with the main colour - grey - then i used lighter and simular colours on the horse, like really light where the light goes etc. and just smudge it al in one direction :) (well that is how i do it xD)

Not bad. This is fairly good since its from your imagination ^_^
Most of the proportions are correct, only thing that bugs me is the eye. Its far too big. Try making it smaller next time.
