There was no bad escapes calls. And the potentially dangerous calls were mostly when McIlravy was trying to escape. The Stall Call, the only one of the match, was because McIlravy was trying to escape and Abas was just holding his leg. It was called way too early for it to be actually stalling, but that is the reason nonetheless. Abas should have just not gotten taken down. That is what lost him the match, not the official. Abas is still the man.
@sanitary103 why do the stall calls bother you? the first stall call was fair, he dove in on a leg and was holding on, no attempt to improve position and regain control. the 2nd stall call came after mcllravy attempted over 5 shots while abas did nothing but back up and block off. good officiating.
@shwann125 the first stall call, fair enough. But if you think the 2nd stall call was warranted, then you must be watching a different match. First off, Abas was square and defending. he barely backed up if that, not enough to give Mac 1 pt in a nat'l title match for goodness sake. As far as Mac "shooting" 5 times, it's more just reaching and trying to force the stall call (don't blame Mac one bit). There is a huge difference between backing up and having good defense, Gerry did the latter.
@jurom7 you wrestle 7 minutes. not 3 1/2. abas was on the defensive mid way thru the 2nd, only taking shots to hang on.. the potentially dangerous were called because abas was never attempting to come up with his shots, instead he was trying to use his knee to torque him in a crackdown position. you boys need to watch more wrestling.
@jurom7 they were to quick of calls for maybe high school, where the athlete needs to think about what position he is instead of just having it be reaction.. abas wrestling style changed.. watch his other takedowns.. he doesn't sit and hang out and then go for his finish. .he is relentless all the way through to the mat.. good officiating by someone who has obviously officiated (these finals officials are hand picked and voted on by the best coach's in the land) and seen more wrestling then you.
The real Champion. The ref got excited and started calling bullshit stalling along with escapes when there were never escapes. Those bullshit escapes allowed McIIravy get undeserved takedowns.
best finals match ever!!!

aching and pushing is not a shot

Stall calls and potentially dangerous calls were called everytime Abas was in on McIIravy attempting to finish a takedown. That favored McIIravy.

@shwann125 crackdowns are part of wrestling. the "stopping" calls were too quick. they were both in wrestling positions.

@shwann125 The refs are influenced by IOWA and GABLE. Open your eyes on the obvious.
