This movie is a true Halloween and overall classic horror movie.. great suspense and a few good scares... Way better then todays stupid gross out movies
I bought it on DVD last year and for all it's an old film, it has none of the cheapness and meanness associated with British horrors of this time. Also the cast is excellent and I love Perter Bowles cameo as a very upper crust Englishman.
@moonshadow387 I agree.. I read the book too... I remember one year I think it was back in the mifd 80s and someone had a warped sense of humor because they aired this movie on Christmas Eve... true fact.. only someone with a sick sense of humor would air this on Christmas eve...
We never get to see this film in England any more since the ITV regions were abolished. However, on a lighter note, I wonder if they were looking forward to the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Show when they got out.
This was more effective because it never got the same publicity as the exorcist. That got so much publicity that by the time you watched it you knew what was going to happen. The same as many movies and progs today.
I first saw this film at a drive-in movie theater when I was a teenager and fell in love with it for life. I was transfixed by Pamela Franklin and had to see all of her other horror movies-- which include; The Innocents, Our Mother's House, And Soon The Darkness, Satan's School For Girls (1973), Food of the Gods and The Witching. She is a scream-queen diva in my book, and this is a GREAT horror movie! I'm glad to see from the comments that others feel the same way about it.
The comment preceding mine is spot on. This is a great movie. Gayle Hunnicutt is gorgeous. Roddy is too cool. Can you imagine what else he'd have done by now if he were still with us? This is a perfect example of why we turn back to classic horror when recent stuff continues to suck.
is this what scary movie 2 was makn fun of

It became a pub years later known as the gorse. Stretford has Stockholm syndrome.

The Innocents is by far the scariest out of all of these ghost movies of this era (The Haunting, The House on Haunted Hill)

This is a haunted house movie that I think I'd actually find terrifying. Sort of like a scary "Rose Red".
Oh, and...
