souther heart is on the right side of his body instead of the left thus his pressures points are reversed but i always wondered what does it change anything with this attack because even if you reverse it ,its still the same points which need to be touched
Souther's heart is on the right side, which reverses all his vital points, making Hokuto Shinken's death style ineffective. Later Kenshiro found this out and takes him down
I like how this is the only move that shouldn't be affected by souther's reversed pressure points, since it hits symetrically on both sides of the head.
Hard to see what's going on inside the skull, y'know. I'd lay money that those points aren't all that symmetrical when you look closely - and, really, that kind of miss-by-a-millimeter-and-eff-it-all-up accuracy is what Hokuto Shinken is all about.
@haineko1101 Hence Souther saying "You may know my pressure points are reversed, but you still don't know their exact locations" after Kenshiro lasers him.
@onelastTAPOW *Thouzer* Does not have reversed "pressure points" They are called Vital Points. Scum like you who know neither peoples names or the names of the targets for the Hokuto Shinken style should die.
@FPietros You can kill him with a Fatal KO, but you can't do him damage with Zankai Ken because that is a pressure point that will do an instant kill. The rest of the Hokuto specials affect him, like Toki's Ujou Danjin Ken and Raoh's Shinketsu Shu because these attacks only do moderate damage.
Souther has Detrxacardia. Its a rare medical condition when your insides are reveresed (ie - the heart is on the right side of your chest instead of the left, everything is reveresed like in a mirror).
Hokuto Shinken works on him just fine, but you have to hit the spot on the opposite side of the body from normal.
Of course, Kenshiro didn't know that at first...
Still, I've got to say this game really does match the original story well!
@buck9393 ...I was combination-kidding and responding to a guy talk about Freeza's retarded capability, that's all. Besides, I figured a guy like you would come and make a predictable joke like you just made, and it satisfied me, a giggly shitrload.
Whenever my Japanese gf laughs she'll say Omoshiroi. Omoshiroi generally means entertaining.
ii verbs in Japanese have many meanings, so I wouldn't say omoshiroi just means interesting. I would say it means the Japanese concept of interesting, which could mean funny, entertaining, interesting and other things.
First, "Interesting", "Funny" or whatever are adjectives, and not verbs.
In my humble opinion, in this case, the translation is "Interesting" since Thouther is not having fun but he is in the heat of a battle. Also the tone of his voice let you understand he is not having fun.
The fact your girlfriend says it when she laughs doesn't mean she want to say "funny", maybe she want to say "interesting" while laughing
One thing is certain...Hokuto no Ken is the best anime of all time my friend! ;-)
Actually they are descriptive verbs. I know in textbooks here in the U.S. they call them adjectives, but when you consider the fact that they replace is, the term verb or descriptive verb becomes a more accurate way of describing their function. Another thing, no one would say that in the heat of battle. Typically, this would be where one would say that it's entertaining, not interesting. Interesting usually implies curiosity. I doubt Souther has any at that moment. He already know what Hokuto
Shinken is. My gf has rarely said anything else besides omoshiroii to describe her feelings when something was funny. Finally, I lived in Japan and speak fluent Japanese, not to mention own the entire series of this Anime so I doubt that I would screw up such a silly thing like 'interesting'. You can think what you want, but if you think that interesting is the only way to interpret that word, you're wrong.
I do agree about the Anime though. Been my fav since I first watched it.
sorry didn't see this second part of your reply. How can I say...you are surely right saying there is not one way to interpret a word...so I'm not saying your interpretation is incorrect, just in my opinion, in this case the correct way to translate is "interesting". Look, I don't frankly mind if you own the entire series on dvd or you lived in Japan, I'm happy for you but that doesn't mean you know things more than someone who didn't live in Japan mate! Cheers!
Well you actually said that funny is a different word. So you implied that Omoshiroi can only be interpreted as interesting. You did not specify in this case, so one can only assume that you meant overall. I would say that it would qualify me as someone who knows more than someone who's lived in Japan. That's like saying that a mechanic who's only read books on cars knows less than someone who has actually worked on cars. Clearly the guy who's worked on cars knows what he's talking about.
I taught English while in Japan, worked for a Japanese company speaking Japanese in the U.S. and had a Japanese language only Customer Service job. So I must know something about translation.
Actually "funny" has a different word in Japanese than "omoshiroi", for being expressed. If you are saying me that "omoroi" means funny and no other words are used to express this concept in japanese, you are the one wrong. I repeat...funny is a different word, and you should know since you lived and worked in Japan. Once again, I don't frankly mind were you worked or lived, and please, since I didn't show off about myself, don't pretend I'm someone who doesn't know anything about the topic ;-)
"Interesting" is adjective also in Italian, my country, not only in the US, and yes, it's an adjective called "aggettivo qualificativo".
Thouther certanly knows Hokuto Shinken has no effects on his inverted Tsubo, but he wants to make Kenshirou believes the contrary (at first), so that's why he pretends to be interested in the "3 seconds" effects of the Zankai Ken...in my opinion eh ;-)
I'm not talking about interesting, I'm talking about ii descriptive verbs/adjectives. Look in English you can't say interesting by itself without a verb (such as is or was), but in Japanese you can, because the verb is in the word. Na adjectives are not the same, because you need da/desu in order to make a complete sentence. Therefore, they are true adjectives.
Kenshiro already knows that Souther knows about Hokuto Shinken, so Souther's ploy would be foolish of him to do so. Therefore, your
explanation seems to have a plot hole in it. Why would he pretend to be interested? If he were pretending it would make more sense to pretend to be scared of dying. Here he is obviously amused that Ken thinks his attack will work. Hence, entertaining being the appropriate choice of translation here. You can have an opinion, but in the case of language, it's either true or not true. Based on my years of experience with the Japanese language, your explanation is false. If he were interested in the
nooo, I don't think that it's great to use one of the expression you just posted, in this case, even because it doesn't make a lot of sense honestly...in the context of a battle and this anime in particular, who use a really impolite and rude Japanese way to speak ;-)
Im going to order this next week along with a swap magic - I may not have enough money for food for a day or two but its going to be worth it - I'm going to weep with joy when I play this game! :'D
