One thing that is to be done is to employ interveiwers who do not imagine themselves to be so clever that their employers can make a media buck without any use of articulacy at all.
Genesis is and always has been radical....his current experiment of becoming what he calls 'pan-gendered' is an extension of his dedication to magick and transformation.
Not too many people would have the courage to do what he is doing and I applaud him. The interviewer was bit of a douche. 93.
Seems like transhumanism and a denial of death, jsut read Ernest Beckers' book of the same name. People most certainly want to escape their own death or mortality, I think Ian should have pursued Genesis' thoughts upon those issues, most industrial music seems to imply death, one should ask the main proponent why such a culture arose and how that was a reaction to pop culture denial of death and immortality worship through religion and ideology.
We should explore genetic engineering...and anything that [will enable us to change]
He focuses on the possibilities without thinking about the nature of the "prehistoric monkeys we are". These possibilities have always been here. Our position in "evolution" isn't subject to possibility, it's subject to our own crappy collective attitudes (as humans). (This if the brand of evolution he's talking about is cultural or contrived.)
People always engage in nonsensical arguments on these pages. I thought the interviewer did a fine job, he seemed a bit in awe of Gen as indeed he should be. A true one of a kind.. We really, really, need humans like Genesis P-Orridge now. MUTATE. EVOLVE.
That's not an inteviewer...that's Ian Svenonious...from the Make UP...and Nation of Ulysses...and Weird War. Look it up and join in on the fun you up-tighty whities.
funny people talking shit on the interviewer. i see it as a refreshing break from the normal "professionalism" you are supposed to be seeing in these types of situations. its more like a real conversation than an interview, awkward moments, disagreements and all
Painful to watch. The interviewer's hurtin' so bad to end it with a slice of dignity, but fails miserably. His hipster ironic suit and hair facade became ironic in that it flipped back and made him look like the ass clown that he is. Gen really manages to do the best of the situation.
I don't know what you're attempting to "descibe" but your comment alludes to your complete dumbfuckery... "Hipster" and "Ironic" are words most overused in conjunction with one another to describe some esoteric and meaningless attribute... Also, I'm not sure if you have a real grasp on what "irony" is. A man wearing a funny suit is not a good example of "irony" -- peace
Weather you want it or not, there is something called an "ironic mustache" and "ironic-whatevers" in pop-culture. It's not about the meaning of irony, I agree that it's misused in most cases, but this is about him trying to be funny by dressing like a jackass, and then... whoospy daisy... being a real jackass. Completely backfired on him. Stop defending the dude, I'm almost convinced that you are him. Peace. ;)
It seems like the interviewer is just trying to say things he thinks sound intellectual or intelligent, and then Genesis comes out and says something actually brilliant, and he struggles to sort of counter it.
Genesis seems to be too eager to be applauded for his profound insight, and the interviewer is green, pretentious, and insufferably self-satisfied. Not an enjoyable interview overall. While the pandrogyne does have several unique and thought-out philosophies on the human condition, I think personally that the kind of evolution he's referring to is underway regardless of our conceit, and that it does not require such excessive eccentricity to actualize it.

seems like a GG Allin kinda wanna be. Trying just to offend "look at me! Look how radical I am! I can chop off me penis and have plastic stuffed into me chest and pretend to be a lady! And did I tell you I was into the occult? How scary, how provocative and how interesting I am aye? Destroy all types. Genetic engineering" Pish posh. This sort of madness is nothing new, , much less is he really interesting because he is into the occult and wants fake boobs implanted into his chest.

Artist? Puh-leese! The only reason he was of any significance is because of people like GG Allin but as well, because the media has an agenda to promote weirdo Transsexuals as "interesting" or "oppressed". There's nothing interesting about weirdos like he, Aleister Crowley or guys with boob implants.
i do agree about the music abuse overuse in society, you go into a borders or barnes and noble to pick/read a book and they got fuckin some house or club music blaring over my train of concentration to think about what i am reading. it is annoying.
We agree! I can't find the music i want when i got godamn whitney houston blah blahing in my ear and some pop-porn-princess telling me whats up. Shut it off!
Pandrogyny... genetic engineering... human evolution through science and technology... all novel and exciting frontiers for humankind to explore. But until we *discorporate* and leave the physical body behind, we also have these annoying things like environmental degradation and diminishing resources, hunger, disease, overpopulation, etc to contend with. If you've got the money for plastic surgery, go for it, I guess. We humans are so self-obsessed. The Biosphere is on the verge of collapse...
Really bad interviewer - horrible references - Quentin was talking about 2 people he observed in a restaurant in Soho, and how they were "not communicating in any way that required effort or style" - it is titled "Unless the Music is Stopped" (Pillows and Prayers compilation - great recording) , 30 years ago - but could easily apply today to endless texting, blackberries and "facebook status". And Genesis is just great - love love...
Actually, I think that's the point but it's gone about in reverse order. Getting to the baser (emotional/spiritual) through the 'superficial' (exterior appearance). Plus, do you really want another person out there telling us how to think or what to believe? I don't! :)
I think cosmetic surgery does change the biological side over time. One releases more endorphins or less, in their comfort or lack of with their new image. Synaptic responses contort muscular and nervous systems when one remembers "Wait, I'm a woman now" (or vice versa) Etc. etc. All in all, Gen's opened my eyes (and ears) again with this interview. New ideas for old ways! Thanks you Gen, Ian, and Krittg for making this all happen and available!
Good interview. But I don't think that the issue is purely about using technology loads. First, cosmetic surgery doesn't change your biological sex. It changes the appearance of the body but not the body itself. Second, like the interviewer says, it's expensive. And of course, expense invokes elitism; elitism invokes paranoia; paranoia invokes jealousy, war etc. I'm condemned to suggest that history repeats itself. Most occultists are too trapped in their teleological myths to realize it.
First, Gen may not be a biological woman. Her chromosomes have not changed, although she is no longer simply a man. Second, I don't understand why you would feel condemned by your suggestion; teleology and eternal recurrence are complementary theories. Parallels, my friend, parallels. Third, I think you could replace "expense" with any divisive term and come to the same conclusion, yet that becomes an ontological argument. It's better to leave such things to the occultists =D
Yuck. I think I was having a pretentious bastard overload when I wrote that comment. Sorry. But getting a couple of massive fake boobies and pretending you're pandrogynous or whatever seems a bit condescending towards the female half of the species though. Then, I think a lot of Genesis P. Orridge's stuff is post-rationalisation anyway.
No worries. I've had those moments myself... I've known a few people that have undergone male to female and female to male transitions. What Genesis says is fascinating, if only for the basic visceral intrigue. She does take it to philosophical extreme, but there is something to be said about trans- (sexual & gendered) individuals and their willingness to rebel against the fixed nature of essentialism and also act as a catalyst for progressive cultural change.
"What is to be done?" :) People should really be themselves and stop caring about what others say. Categories and stereotypes are born when some people try to be like other people. Some people are born 'leaders' and in control of their lives while others are born 'followers'. For the latter, 'stereotypes' are a way of living and it will take a long time, probably forever, to shatter their illusions. It's not impossible though... :)
