@KentuckyLake1 you probaly catch 30 6 inch bass the whole day, ade he is rarley on his own lakes, they also dont show alll the bas he catches in his videos and tornaments
I have fished MANY rigs and I will say that the Z-9 has it all, high build quality, great rough water ride, VERY fast for a BIG boat with a Air craft carrier front deck and being such a wide boat and running high 70's with a stock 250XS with a full tourney load. with me running the mod'ed 250XS I have the fastest boat at 90% of the events I fish.. some times a Bullet hull will be there and so long as they have smooth water they will out run me but once it gets a foot or so out there ill eat them
if a 200+ fish fought like a 200+ pound bass your arms would be pulled off cuz bass are one of the hardest fighting fish even out of all the saltwater fish I've cought
@tunerguy95 I run the same rig as he does, mines a 2010 Nitro Z-9 DC Merc 250XS Opti... I had Simon motorsports build up my 250XS it dyno'ed 364HP @ the prop my Z-9 with a full tourney load IE Two people, tons of gear, 5 Batterys, full tank fuel and oil... loaded down big time and getting GPS 84MPH running it for speed runs with one person, no gear, onlya cranking battery, 1/4 tank fuel have seen 91MPH GPS on good hard water. my boat is faster then his as they run stock engines so his = 73-78MPH
@tunerguy95 I run a fully finished Balanced and blue printed Mercury Fury (Work done by Spinelli bros on the props) if you want a prop done up for you these are the best at it! they done about 30 props for me and there work is second to none. Simons did, Bigger injectors, fuel mapping, lightening of the pistons, con-rods and crank, timing, reeds, change shape of pistons for more compression, there throttle body all more magic! I run a 12in set back Bob's Hyd. Jack plate and low water nose cone.
@tunerguy95 run a 10in plate at first swapped to 12in plate gained 4MPH better hole shot and now at WOT no water pressure drop with the 12in. we also have a 2007 Bullet 21XD W/ Mercury 2.5 Super shorty built by Simons Dyno 374HP @ Prop that is a solid 105-110MPH boat on good hard water.. The Bullet doesnt come close to the Nitro as far as Fishabilty, and we run it only when we are fishing events where we wont see big water and LONG LONG runs will be made because so much water can be covered.
@Flatzout I think bass are more fun because you can never figure out the puzzel. Every year I go tarpon fishing and they are easy to find and make bite.
Cool experience I'm sure... On the having multiple rods with basically the same lure on note - a lot of those guys have the same exact lure tied on multiple rods with different lines, gear ratios, and rods and some of the same exact so if they break off, they don't have to retie immediately. John Crews on the Delta this year had about 10 flippin sticks - 8 with fluoro and 2 with braid (last day) with 2 different size plastics in the same color and a few variations on weight.
Neat video... I am one of the ESPNOutdoors photographers that covers the major Elite Series events and the Bassmaster Opens. KVD is definitely the best our sport has ever seen. Glad you got to draw out KVD. One awesome fisherman on any body of water, but deadly on Kentucky Lake and the Coosa River system.
@pilotguy32 I have always held Rick Clunn in the highest regard. He was my favorite back in the 80s and 90s and I still like him. He was voted ESPN's All time greatest fisherman back in 2004.
But I think if they held that vote now, KVD would win it hands down. He's just on a level above all the rest!
6 AOY titles, 3 Classic titles, and how many BASS elite wins?............I'd say he's come into his own. He sets new standards every time he's on the water.
His is now, what Rick Clunn, Larry Nixon and Roland Martin were back in the day, and that is a living legend!
Kevin is in my top 3 for my fav. Pro Bass Anglers ... Bill Dance is my fav. of course ... and i dont just look for who can catch the most fish . they gotta have some type of personality
hey dude...you got some good footage...i marshalled at smith and got matt reed and jared litner....what kind of spoon did he throw....i seen he caught one on it....did he talk to you much....do you fish kentucky lake or are you from somewhere else that just came to marshall at kentucky...thanks and take care man
@maplebassmastrers5 he uses qauantum all the time...theyre his main sponsor....he cranks with a 5:1 energy on a graphite glass composite rod(also quantum 7'10 Medium action) with 10 or 12 lb line flourocarbon(its a gimmic dont use it, its weak and is not abbrasion resistant if you dont believe me research it theyre all shit) he uses the tour edition rod and reel mostly on everything else...hoped this helped you
LOL That bass came back after that spoon 5 times before he hooked up and it was a solid 3 pounder. If that was me i wouald have lost him on the way in Man he is lucky i never get those kinda breaks Only professionals get those kinda things
I was a marshal at this same event. I wouldn't encourage or recommend anybody to be a marshal for an elite series event. It was the worst experience of my life. 2 of 3 three guys I drew were horrible boat drivers, HORRIBLE. Remitz and some japanese guy were horrible boat drivers. Jami Fralick was the only decent one. Also it sucks when you get paired with three losers. I fell asleep on Day 2 for about 2 hours out on the water while with the Japanese guy. BORING.
How many times a minute can Mark Zona and Tommy Sanders say the name Kevin Van Dam ? Both of those guys have dreams of KVD's balls bouncing off there chins. What a bunch starry eyed homos . This is the worst fucking music in the world . This video is horrible .
big bad bass fisherman we have tournaments here in rochester ny we use no electronics only wits and skill take those electronics away and there plain old fisherman drag jigs across the bottom to tell humps and ditches and grass.
Awesome vid. So you was one of the lucky 3 guys to be paired with him. I was paired with Grigsby, Todd Auten, and Brit Myers. Im signed up and ready for another round at Ky Lake and G-ville in 2010.
That yuppie goof ball has goofed his way to over 3.5 million in tournament winnings and is the #1 ranked angler in the world and has been for over a decade. If you won that many tournys, classics, and AOY's you wouldnt pay for anything either. Hate the game not the player.
Nothing at his level comes for free. It all comes with a price one way or the other.. Can he call Quantum & order 100 rods for the season... Probably. But he also puts in 14 hours a day x 7 days a week x 200++ days a year just to make a living. Chances are, most people can get a free truck, boat, wraps & all the tackle and rods yet still don't have the talent and skill to compete at that level....Otherwise YOU would.
Here's a tip i see from the video and personal experience: At 2:14 you see Kevin jerking the rod a couple times before hooking the fish. What likely happened was the fish were really aggressive and tried to eat the lure a few times. Usually that happens when there are ALOT of bass in the area and bass react that way because they are competing for forage. If you get successive bites like that remember to remain in the area a bit longer as there are likely alot of bass competing for food.
KVD my fav fishing master.....I love the Quantum tour PT reels just bot the 2009 tour reel OMG the best, So nice set it and forget it NEVER A BACKLASH
Thanks for sharing !! Must have been a great experience. Question: At 20 seconds there is a pic of 5 rods. Looks like the Sexy Shads all tied on. They all look like the same size which seems odd ? Any info on that you would share ?
Yeah, I thought it was a little strange when I first saw that too. It was actually a combination of Series 6, Series 5, and a new prototype Series 6 XD (extra deep). What you don't see is the giant spoon. I'd say that he caught most of his fish on the Series 6 XD and the fultter spoon.
@lexjmoon Also he could have multiple lures incase he loses one and doesn't waste time tying a new one. He doesn't have 10 poles on his boat for no reason. :)
Even though it may or may not be the very same lures...he's probably got different lb test lines on them to make them run a bit deeper or higher...depending on line diameter.
More than likely Kevin had multiple rods/same or similar lures rigged with different size line diameters so he could control the depth he was fishing those deep crankbaits at. Line diameter makes a HUGE difference.
Actually, not only that he has different rods with different size crank baits but also same size crank baits with different size lines. That difference in line size can make 2-4 feet difference in a crank bait dive which is crucial in reaching targeted depth.

Some of the KY Lake Guides I know, and go out and catch 30 to 50 Bass per day Some of them catch 100 or more Bass in 1 day, several days each month.
KVD is great, but he is only competing against the same few dozen people over and over again. Where is the competition?
I think there are people in America that can outfish KVD, especially on their home lakes.
I caught 210 Bass in 3 days last April on KY Lake, imagine if I would have been in a tournament with KVD, I might have beat him.
