  • Nice video! Who did you contact while enroute to Furnace Creek and what is the tail number of your airplane? Bet you got a pretty good performance taking off from -210 MSL eh? :D Great job.

  • I've always wanted to go to L06!! I'm currently training for Instrument at ERAU in Prescott. I've always wanted to see the altimeter read -210 below S.L. :)

I have a blog as well, ERAUAviator (dot) blogspot (dot) com. Check it out :)

  • It's getting late in the year. Go NOW or wait for winter.

  • Thanks for the tip. I wasn't planning on going anytime soon. It's just on my list :)

  • Fholbert my compliments on your videos..they are fun to watch ! Question though and I'm not a pilot..reading the charts for that area the playing with sims 2515 &2524 show as Edwards Restricted so if your ATC guys says no to a crossing how would you get out to Furnace creek ? I'm just curious ? Would that mean a really round about way ? I think all those airspace rules are interesting but the map shows a place like this as an airspace nightmare so how would that work if you dont mind me asking?

  • Furnace Creek direct Baker Airport direct Corona keeps one out of restricted airspace. It does take one though the MOA's but they are cold on the weekends.

  • Approach sure sounded like he had his hands full that day!

  • best flying vids on youtube. keep it up!

  • Thanks

  • Thanks for another great video Frank. You and Allen are keeping my quotient of vicarious flying filled.

  • It seems like you are flying over some very rugged mountains. Is that safe to do with only one engine?

  • I'm usually within gliding distance of a valley floor, flat area, farm land.

  • +1 to that, when I'm in the hills I always think about whether I can glide to flat land (ideally at an airport.)

  • That would depend. Are you trying to save the airplane or the people in the airplane?

  • Ideally both, but if I have to put it down in a rocky field, so be it. That's what insurance is for. But if your glide ratio will take you to the nearest airfield if you're 1,000 feet higher, why not fly 1,000 feet higher?

  • I've always subscribed to the theory that when the engine quits the insurance company owns the plane and you're making it's last flight. Wheels are optional, surviving isn't.

That being said. I did have an engine fire/failure in 1978 and landed on a paved runway at a controlled airport. Only because it was there and I had 10,000' to loose.

  • Your videos are so much like flying I'm going to log the cross country time.

  • LOL!

  • What kind of aircraft are you flying all i heard was bellanca but nice video though hoping to get my privates license in a couple years.

  • Youtube blocks URL's. Look at 160knots~com. It's a Bellanca Super Viking.

  • you know frank, you have the best prop video's on youtube. for people just getting interested in flying, your video's are as good as they get for both takeoff, landing, in flight, and the all important communications aspects. kudo's

  • I'd like to do the best Jet Video's! Please send money. I take Paypal.

  • Thanks for the video Frank! I enjoyed it!

  • I've been watching your videos for about a year now. I like the way you explain what's happening, talk to the camera, as you fly. It makes me feel like I'm riding along.

  • fholbert, I get a lot of good ideas from you when it comes to places to go. After your video trip to Shoshone we did the same trip. I've been to Death Valley before but it's been a few years, maybe this weekend?

  • The problem is I'm running out of new places within 2 hours. Looking for suggestions....

  • Looked at your page. The place has not changed since I visted when I was 14 and stayed there with my family.

  • Looks good like always.

  • Thank you.

  • Nice video, thanks.

  • I need to get out to SoCal. You guys have the best areas for flying!

  • I agree, we are really lucky here. Snow to islands, mountains to desert. All 4 within 100 mile circle.
